Ramai penduduk Lubnan terpaksa menyesuaikan jadual kerja dan persekolahan mereka dalam zon waktu berbeza walaupun berada di negara sama, susulan sebilangan institusi mematuhi keputusan penangguhan itu tetapi sebahagian lagi pula enggan.


Kebanyakan ahli politik serta institusi Kristian, termasuk gereja terbesar di Lubnan, Gereja Maronite, menolak langkah itu.


Secara lazim, Lubnan menyelaraskan waktu sejam ke depan pada Ahad terakhir Mac, sejajar dengan kebanyakan negara Eropah menjelang berakhirnya musim dingin.


Bagaimanapun pada Khamis lalu, Kerajaan Lubnan mengumumkan keputusan Perdana Menteri, Najib Mikati, menangguhkan permulaan pelarasan waktu siang, kepada 21 April depan.


Tiada sebab diberikan atas keputusan itu, namun rakaman video memaparkan pertemuan Mikati dengan Yang Dipertua Parlimen, Nabih Berri, bocor kepada media tempatan.


Rakaman terbabit menunjukkan Berri meminta Mikati membuat penangguhan itu yang membolehkan umat Islam berbuka puasa sejam lebih awal berbanding waktu yang diselaraskan sejam ke hadapan.


Susulan pengumuman itu, syarikat penerbangan Lubnan, Middle East Airlines, berkata waktu berlepas bagi semua penerbangan dari Lapangan Terbang Beirut yang dijadualkan antara hari ini hingga 21 April depan, akan dilewatkan sejam.


Dua rangkaian telefon selular Lubnan pula menghantar pesanan kepada pengguna, yang meminta mereka menukar tetapan jam kepada manual supaya masanya tidak berubah pada detik tengah malam.


Institusi awam - secara teorinya - terikat dengan keputusan kerajaan itu. Janji temu pada jam 8 pagi itu membabitkan urusan dengan agensi kerajaan yang mengikut waktu rasmi Lubnan, manakala kelas pada jam 9 pagi pula di sebuah institusi yang dijangka beralih kepada pelarasan waktu siang.

"Jadi sekarang, saya akan menghantar anak ke sekolah pada jam 8 pagi tetapi tiba di tempat kerja sejauh 42 kilometer pada jam 7.30 pagi. Seterusnya, saya habis kerja pada jam 5 petang dan tiba di rumah sejam kemudian tetapi jam akan menunjukkan sudah 7 malam!" tulisnya dalam Twitter.
