                                                                                BMWs sold for a song
A YOUNG man allegedly auctioned off luxury vehicles, including BMWs and Toyota Alphards, to the public at between RM50,000 and RM80,000, Harian Metro reported.

The cars were said to be technically still owned by those who had taken hire-purchase loans.

The man, in his 20s, had allegedly tampered with the car registration grants and repainted the cars to avoid the bank from repossessing them. His ploy was exposed by one of his victims, known as Rashid, who bought a car from him after getting to know him through a chat forum on the Internet.

Rashid, 39, claimed he met the man at a restaurant and was offered a Toyota Wish at RM55,000.

After settling the payment by cash, Rashid was given a grant, which he later realised had two registration numbers.
He said he checked the status of the car with the Road Transport Department but there was no problem with it.

Dissatisfied, he then checked the status of the car with the bank and was shocked to find out that the original owner still owed money to the bank and that the car registration number and colour had been changed.

He contacted the man and asked for his money to be refunded after he returned the car, which was agreed to by the man.
Rashid later lodged a report at Seksyen 6, Shah Alam police station.

Car owners caught in a bind over sale of vehicles
By BEH YUEN HUI

KUALA LUMPUR: Three men are in a dilemma after selling their cars to unscrupulous parties in separate occasions.

Used car dealers took away the vehicles belonging to two of them while another’s vehicle had its engine and accessories totally stripped off.

The men – Wan Izham Wan Hashim, Wong Seng Cheong and Nge Chian Tian – sought help from MCA Public Service and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong.

Wan Izham and Wong, whose cars were taken away, are offering RM3,000 and RM10,000 as reward, respectively, for help to get their cars back.

At a press conference in Wisma MCA here yesterday, Wan Izham said he “sold” his silver Toyota Caldina, bearing number plate BFR 966, to a dealer from a used car firm in Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya, for RM159,000 in May 2008.

“A few weeks later, the dealer told me he had sold my car and would pay me the money later.

“But until now, he has not given me the money. He kept delaying with various excuses,” said the 33-year-old aircraft engineer, who lodged a police report in September last year.

He said the dealer could not be contacted and he was still servicing the car loan.

Real estate agent Wong, 28, shared the same fate as Wan Izham when he passed his BMW to another used car dealer in May 2007.

He said the dealer kept delaying his payment of RM355,000 with excuses.

He lodged a police report in February last year.

Nge, a 28-year-old sales executive, said he sold his Proton Putra to a friend for RM23,500 in April last year without collecting any money for it.

He said that a few months later, another friend spotted the car abandoned in an alley.

“When I went to check, the engine and accessories including the seats, dashboard, audio system and tyre rims had been removed,” he added.
