mintak pendapat psl networking office..

opis aku ada komputer dlm 30 biji yg share 1 line internet.aku igt nak buat networking baru sbb networking skang ni bnyk masalah.
networking skang ni pki 1 adsl modem + 1 router 4 port and beberapa switch yg connect ke router.kitorg pki isp maxis broadband SOHO 1 Mbps dan kelajuan surfing sgt la mengecewakan.itu adalah salah satu alasan aku nak buat networking baru.
1. korang rs perlu ke aku beli router 4 port yg sekali dgn adsl modem utk reducekan device sbb sistem skang ni modem dan router separate.sometimes aku x leh nak xs setting modem drp browser.aku igt router yg jd penghalang.pastu plk router skang ni pki firmware openwrt, sgt sukar utk dptkan info cara2 nak blog p2p application atau web2 tertentu drp router ni.
2. kalo aku nak dpt speed internet yg laju bg networking ni apa yg perlu aku buat?kena setup linux server ke atau mcm mn?kalo kena setup linux server mcm mn plk connection dia?
opis aku x de running apa2 special application for network.just utk surf internet jerk. |

1st of all, I nak cakap yg I tak pernah guna Maxis but hopefully dia sama je dgn Streamyx... Dari apa yg I dapat input dari frens, Maxis ni memang slow giler & I dah tengok dia punya agreement upon signing untuk services dia kat atas sekali dia letak clause untuk illegal downloading, torrent, etc. So, most probably Maxis dah buat prevention measures untuk sekat menda2 ni.
With that said, apa pun yg U buat; speed will still be the same, it'll still sucks... Tukar everything jadik just modem-router will simplify things, but speed will still be the same.
Linux? Argghh.... NI memang I nak kena buat Linux/GNU Rirewall tutorial yg Mod dah "paksa" I buat tu... Dah lama dah, tapi sangkut sebab I malas nak translate ke BM, takut jadik lain lak nanti... But, so far Linux/GNU will not increase speed, it'll just give priority to some traffics over the others and make it manageable, so it'll appear that the internet is faster. Anyway, I'll get to it.... |

tapi linux dah ade GUI skang senang la sikit..kalau dulu2 mati oo...
aku suggest nko buang je maxis tu, pakai streamyx je...
nak mudah manage, ko buat satu gateway server....
modem lain device, router lain device... pakai switch instead of pakai hub....
yg lelain doa lebih sikit... hehehe |

Yep.... Nanti gua usahakan tutorial tu... Senang je, as you said; tapi org dah dengar Linux/GNU ramai yg ingat "command prompt" & game ala2 the original Prince of Persia je... Hehhhe Anyway, bukan full-fledged Linux/GNU pun; just a ready-made customised Firewall & internet server je..... Nampak gayanya, gua buat part by part je la..... |

just nak bagi pendapat.....kalau kat office tu kebanyakkan surfing benda yang sama better buat proxy server, paling senang ko install ler
1. linux debian/ubuntu server edition (no gui)
2. squid (proxy server)
3. webmin (control panel)
guna webmin utk setup squid + firewall |

aku bersetuju dgn pendapat testas tentang attitude pekerja disini yg mmg giler p2p.mcm2 brg dl.aku mmg ada terpikir nak block p2p drp router,tp utk melaksanakannya agak sukar sbb router ni pki linux system iaitu kamikaze openwrt.lg satu p2p blh tukar2 port.impossible kalo aku nak blog kesemua port2 yg digunakan oleh pekerja2 disini, tambahan aku pun x tau apa port dorang pki.kalo aku tau pun mcm la org x leh nak tukar ke port lain.
jd kesimpulannya x payah la kita bersusah payah memeras otak utk menyelesaikan masalah ini sbb aku telah pun mengambil kptsn utk berambus dr company ni.kalo aku x memberambuskan diri aku sendiri pun lambat laun aku akan dinyahkan jgk drp company ni di atas kegagalan aku memastikan internet blh digunakan dgn berkesan.walaupun aku x bersalah dlm hal ni, namun pihak2 atasan tetap memandang aku sbg seorang yg bersalah.
kpd mereka2 yg gila main torrent @ guna p2p pki line opis, igt2lah sikit sbb ada org yg menderita di atas keseronokan anda iaitu org2 spt aku.namun demkian jauh di sudut hati aku x pernah menyimpan hasad dan dendam terhadap kalian.cuma ucapan terima kasih sahaja yg mampu aku ucapkan.terima kasih di atas balasan kalian terhadap org yg cuba membantu memudahkan kalian utk membuat kerja.terima kasih sekali lagi.. |

dah tgk daa posting die... boring je aku tgk mamat/minah ni... tak berminat aku..
kepada otai_g.. sabar2... dah dapat offer lain ker?kalau daa biarkan aje. ok.. satu lg.. off kan windows update kat opis kau tu. setiap pc. ok.p2p and ym mmg satu cabaran nak block.. tp ada caranya.. sama2 la kita berbincang kat sini... opis aku ada 120 pc. bole aje aku block.. aku sound direct aje. sapa main aku email kat big boss.. semua takut.. block juga youtube, metacafe and sebagainya. setup la 1 ISA server trial version 6 bulan free.. kat situ lh block p2p and sebagainya.. usaha tangga kejayaan.. jgn cepat mengalah..
ok. |

Aku ingat nak ulas pasal P2P tu dulu.... Kau tau ke apa yg dia selalu guna? Tak familiar dgn Ares etc, tapi kalau torrent clients tu dia akan guna certain ports. Kat sini Linux/GNU will come in as a solution, cuz Linux/GNU distro mostly comes with all ports closed until opened.
So, OpenWRT ni rasanya cam normal off-the-shelf router OS kan? So, utilised le port forwarding tu.... Then, check le open connections, get the IP & ketuk je kepala sapa yg duduk kat situ... Kau SysAdmin kan, so you got the right...
BTW, BorderManager..... Maybe Debian/Ubuntu Server tu susah sikit le bagi org yg tak familiar dgn Linux/GNU, kalau normal RedHat or OpenSUSE tu maybe boleh le...
Anyway, I'll get to work now with my IPCop Firewall.... But, it'll be stage by stage le. This firewall will be much simpler than a full-fledged Linux/GNU server, almost plug-and-play.... So, this will be the proposed diagram:

Your prayer's been answered, dude.... While surfing around, I stumbled upon this bit of info that the coming IPCop 2.0 will integrate new firewalling interface based on Shoreline; and I gotta know that Shoreline support OpenWRT!!
So, most probably your router is supported by Shoreline firewall. Check out your brand & model @ www.shorewall.net..... Stateful firewall will be a piece of cake with Netfilter and iptables.
Worst come to worst, your company have to revamp the whole thing if you do leave them. Unless if they can't find Linux/GNU gurus at hand....
