Ada sapa2 disini tau apa bezanya Ethernet cable base-T & base-Tx.. saya dah google seharian tapi tak dapat jawapan yang convincing. Apa beza utp cable 1000 base-T & 1000 base-Tx?
Thanks |

TQ Cretin.. my understanding based on my google research before your reply was base-T have shorter distance compared to base-tx but there's no explanation on why & how...
since it's basically unshielded (base-t) and shielded (base-tx), it is obvious that shielded cable are less susceptible to electromagnetic noise hence the longer distance.. am i right?..
Thanks again |

Got it!.... It's actually a different design, supposed to replace Base-T but it was a failure:
The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) created and promoted a version of 1000BASE-T that was simpler to implement, calling it 1000BASE-TX (TIA/EIA-854). The simplified design would, in theory, have reduced the cost of the required electronics by only using two pairs in each direction. However, the two-pair solution required Category 6 cable and has been a commercial failure, likely due to the rapidly falling cost of 1000BASE-T products combined with the Category 6 cable requirement. Many 1000BASE-T products are advertised as 1000BASE-TX due to lack of knowledge that 1000BASE-TX is actually a different standard. |

yeah.. after re-googling I also found out about that..
IEEE 1000Base-T = transmit/receive 250 mbit/s on 4 pairs (full duplex)
TIA 1000Base-TX = transmit 500 mbit/s on 2 pairs and receive 500 mbit/s on 2 pairs (half duplex)
1000Base-T works on both cat-5e & cat 6 cabling while 1000Base-TX can only work on cat 6 cabling..
The question now.. since I'm not familiar with the costing..
1) What are the costs difference (lebih kurangla) of cat-5e, cat-6 and fiber for in-building (1) backbone and (2) end user connection
2) Is 1000base-tx really dead? |

It won't be a matter of price alone, but what U wanna do with it... If it's just non-critical servers where speed & scalability are never an issue, you might as well get away with Cat5e....
Cat5e = ~RM350; Cat6= ~RM550 per box; You do the math, take into consideration that Cat6 accessories are far more expensive.... To jump from Cat6 to Fiber maybe you can add extra 30%-40%.
So, the question will be more likely "Is it worth it? & Do you really need the extras?"
So, what is it for anyway? ...If you don't mind me asking. |

less 100 mtrs.. use cat.5e would be enough.. more than 100, better use fiber.. but be ready to pay higher price then. |

Oh yeah.... Not sure if 1000 Base-TX is already dead, but most probably "nyawa2 ikan"... Take the war for the stake to be the standard of DVD writers & storage.... Nobody wins, just that we're the loser.... Even if the commonsense tells everybody to cut their loses & put all the R&D into a single format/standard, yet economically they cut their loses by delaying & ley the consumers fight & pay needlessly for the technology that they don't really need. |
