AVRAM GRANT has replaced Jose Mourinho as Chelsea's boss. The Israeli - a close friend of owner Roman Abramovich - takes over after Mourinho sensationally left last night. Grant, 52, is now tasked with reviving the Blues' Premier League and Champions League dreams.
Mourinho's No2 Steve Clarke will also stay on as Grant's assistant.
A Chelsea statement read: "The club is delighted thatin Avram we have an exprienced man who can come in immediately at thisdifficult time to help deliver our objectives.
"In Steve we have a Chelsea man and he will be a crucial part of the management team going forward.
"Avram and Steve have our full confidence and support."
Ex-Israel national coach Grant joined Chelsea this summer after leaving his post as Technical Director at Portsmouth.
Abramovich saw Grant as the man to get the best outof misfiring striker Andriy Shevchenko and Mourinho finally agreed tohis arrival on the understanding that he had no influence on teamaffairs.
Meanwhile, Mourinho made an early visit to Chelsea's training ground today - leaving at 10.45am.
He hid his face in his trademark trenchcoat as he dashed past a crowd of reporters and photographers waiting for him.
Mourinho refused to comment on his departure fromChelsea before getting into the back of a black saloon car and beingdriven off.
