Belly dancing is slowly gaining popularity in the Klang Valley. Not only is it a cool pastime, it can keep you in shape, too.
BODIES swaying rhythmically, the women danced with fluid grace in time to the lively beat of the drums. The exotic Arabian music playing in the background was energetic yet hypnotic to the senses.
Then, a rustling sound of coins filled the room as the dancers jiggled their hips vigorously, shaking the sequins on the scarves, tied around their waists.
With faces glowing radiantly, they twirled and danced again with the air of a performer抯 confidence. However, these women were neither professionals nor experts

They were ordinary Malaysian women from all walks of life, who had taken up belly dancing as a hobby at the Havana Estudio in Kuala Lumpur.
Their class instructor, Nancy Bakhshy, enthused that more and more people are slowly picking up the dance these days.
揑n the beginning, not many people knew what belly dancing was about,
I didn't realise there's a board about belly dancing here.
I am a belly dancing/middle eastern dance instructor/trainer and I have been teaching in various fitness and dance centres in Klang Valley. At the moment I am teaching from home and partnering with a few studios offering belly dancing lessons.
Belly dancing is indeed a very benificial dance for women. ( I teach women only ). Belly dancing is an art form and also an exercise that can be enjoyed until your golden age. It promotes healthy self-esteem and appreciation for your own body. It also helps strengthen your core muscle, that is one of the most important muscle in a human's body.
Most women, especially Malaysian, shy away from belly dancing/middle eastern dance when they thought they need to dress sexily/revealingly/ to dance. It is NOT TRUE at all. In fact, originally the women dance is their everyday clothes, in a social function and gathering in Middle East. The dance was not meant to be provocative or seductive. It is a dance for women, by women. For us to enjoy each other's company in a fun and musical atmosphere.
Do asks any questions regarding the dance here and I'll do my best to provide answers. You can also PM me!
