Hughton Stops Carroll Talks

The toon boss Chris Hughton has talked down talks after the roumers of Andy Carroll moving clubs. The Newcastle number nine has been linked with both Arsenal and Tottenhem this January. Hughton told the press: “Everybody is aware of what Andy means to this club, he is not leaving. I’m not aware of any interest in him anyway. Probably the speculation is more annoying at this stage than what’s gone before. Leading up to the window you expect the speculation, I suppose it’s the norm and a large majority of speculation with anybody isn’t fact. Probably anything now is more annoying because we’ve got past that window and it’s something we could certainly do without. It’s certainly something there’s no fact in.”

Chris Hughton went on to comment: “This is a player that’s started the season very well. A striker will always be judged on the goals they score and he’s managed to score four already this season. Of course we continue to say there’s areas he can improve on and he will take dips as all strikers will, but he’s a player who is very much the future of this club.” About Carroll’s court cast next month Hughton continued: “I have seen him mature off the pitch, certainly, but I also see this season being a real good learning curve for him. He’s playing in a tough division up against better centre-halves. We were very strong in the Championship last season and he knows for the team there will be far more ups and down this season and that will be a good learning curve for him.” The price tag that had been put on Carroll was £6million!

Hughton’s Role Model Revealed

Today the toon boss Chris Hughton has told the press who his role model has been ahead of this weekend match away to Everton. His role model is David Moyes’s who is the manager Hughton will be facing in less than 24 hours time. Moyes is the third-longest serving Premier League manager after Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. Hughton said: In terms of football managers in the Premier League, they don’t come much better than David Moyes. You have to look at where Everton are, and the job he’s done. It’s an amazing achievement when you look at some of the high finishes they’ve enjoyed. What David has achieved, he’s done it without any of the big money, and that’s why it makes the job he’s done look so special. It’s why he’s regarded so highly in the game.”

One the same day Hughton said this to the press the FA released a statment about Moyes, they informed us by saying: “Everton manager David Moyes and assistant manager Steve Round have both admitted improper conduct charges. The charges related to Moyes’s and Round’s conduct towards referee Martin Atkinson on the pitch following the final whistle at Everton’s match against Manchester United on 11 September. Moyes has accepted the £8,000 fine, which is the standard sanction offered for this charge.” We will take on Everton at 3pm tomorrow and there is no away seats available, BBC Radio Newcastle will run free live commentary.

Carling Cup - Newcastle stun Chelsea at Bridge
Wed, 22 Sep 22:00:00 2010

Newcastle United sent Premier League leaders Chelsea crashing out of the Carling Cup at the first hurdle with a 4-3 win at Stamford Bridge.

With the exceptions of Nicolas Anelka and returning skipper John Terry, Chelsea largely fielded a second-string side as Patrick van Aanholt gave them an early lead.

Goals from Nile Ranger, Ryan Taylor and Shola Ameobi put the visiting side 3-1 up.

A late brace from Anelka levelled matters but Ameobi pounced for an injury-time winner.

Chelsea started well and things looked ominous for Newcastle when the home side took the lead early on through Dutch defender Van Aanholt after a mistake from Ranger.

However, Newcastle fought back and Ranger made up for his costly mistake when he converted Shane Ferguson's cross at the far post on 27 minutes.

Shortly after Taylor put the Magpies ahead when he whipped in a trademark free-kick from 25-yards.

Newcastle did not sit back, and just four minutes into the second half Ameobi punished a bad pass from Paulo Ferreira by bending a shot home from the edge of the box.

Things went from bad to worse for Chelsea, when first substitute Salomon Kalou came off with a muscle injury and then Yossi Benayoun pulled up with similar problem.

Benayoun’s exit came after Chelsea had made all their substitutions but, despite being down to 10 men, the Blues Chelsea fought back and Anelka pulled one back when he met Van Aanholt's cross.

Anelka then drew the home side level when he converted the coolest of penalties, rolling the ball in after a one-step run up after Alex had gone down softly under a challenge from Cheik Tiote.

However, with extra time looming Ameobi got on the end of a Jonas Gutierrez corner and headed the winner for Newcastle to send the away fans into raptures.

Hughton - Fielding krul is not a blow
Fri, 24 Sep 15:13:55 2010

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton will have no qualms about installing Tim Krul as his temporary number one goalkeeper after losing Steve Harper for 12 weeks.

Harper, 35, underwent surgery to repair his damaged shoulder ligament on Thursday and is unlikely to play again until December.

However, Hughton has decided not to seek an emergency replacement, in the short term at least, and will instead rely on 22-year-old Dutchman Krul and Swedish understudy Ole Soderberg.

Krul made his senior debut for the club as a 19-year-old in a UEFA Cup tie against Palermo in Sicily in November 2006, and turned in a stunning individual display as the Magpies won 1-0, although chances since have been rare.

However, his manager is confident he has got what it will take to provide more than adequate cover during Harper's enforced absence.

Hughton said: "That confidence has really been built on not just the fact that when he has come in, he has done very well, but on what we have seen here from him over the period of time he has been here. That's the biggest aspect because we haven't seen him so much as regards the first team on the football pitch. But we are very confident in his ability and we are quite sure he will cope very well."

harap krul buleh tahan ngan physical challenge epl
