Leicester: Jurulatih kecergasan meninggal dunia selepas dipercayai mencuba sejenis dadah yang diperbuat daripada kulit katak beracun.

Bekas pesakit kanser, Kristian Trend dilaporkan rebah di pangsapurinya selepas mengambil bahan dikenali sebagai Kambo dalam satu 'upacara pembersihan', bulan lalu.

Lelaki berusia 40 tahun itu dipercayai mengambil bahan berkenaan yang dihasilkan daripada lendir diekstrak daripada kulit katak daun gergasi sebagai sebahagian daripada ritual penyingkiran toksin.

Toksin berbahaya itu sudah diharamkan di Australia, Brazil dan Chile, namun masih boleh dibeli secara sah di United Kingdom (UK).

Ibu Kristian, Angie berkata, anaknya sangat mementingkan aspek kerohanian dan pernah memberitahu hasratnya untuk 'membersihkan dirinya'.

"Dia mengambil banyak vitamin. Namun, saya tidak tahu apa yang berlaku sebenarnya.

"Kami masih belum menerima keputusan ujian. Saya tidak tahu apa-apa, malah saya rasa saya tidak mahu tahu apa yang berlaku kerana ia tidak akan mengembalikan dia semula," katanya kepada Telegraph yang dipetik MSN.

Kristian sebelum ini pernah sembuh daripada kanser limfoma Burkitt selepas menjalani rawatan intensif selama empat bulan di hospital.

Mengenai perjuangannya melawan kanser sebelum ini, dia pernah dimaklumkan hanya mempunyai tempoh sehingga enam bulan untuk hidup tanpa rawatan intensif pada usia 23 tahun.

Diagnosis kanser yang jarang berlaku itu memaksanya membuat pilihan sama ada hidup dalam ketakutan atau berserah kepada tujuan hidup lebih baik.

"Selepas mengembara ke beberapa lokasi di India dan Asia untuk mendalami kesejahteraan holistik serta meditasi, jalan hidup saya menjadi lebih jelas," katanya sebelum ini.

Kristian dikejarkan ke hospital selepas ditemukan dalam keadaan tidak sedarkan diri di rumahnya di Clarendon Park, di sini, bulan lalu.

Bagaimanapun, dia disahkan meninggal dunia di hospital dan ujian toksikologi kini sedang dijalankan. Seorang lelaki berusia 41 tahun ditahan kerana disyaki membekalkan bahan beracun itu.

Polis Leicestershire berkata, siasatan lanjut berhubung insiden masih diteruskan.
