Amazon Product Ideas: Finding a Profitable Product

Viewed 199 times2-1-2022 02:25 AM

You're in the right place if you're thinking about becoming an Amazon seller but aren't sure what to sell.

There is no difference between selling vegan cat food and healing chakra stones. The opportunity is there if you can enter a large enough niche and disrupt it.

In this blog, we will discuss how to find profitable products to sell on Amazon by analyzing product types, differentiation, pricing, shipping, reviews, and sourcing. Reading this blog may also help you gain insight into all of these categories.

Sorting by type of product

In general, your first product should be easy to manufacture and made from cheap materials. You should opt for plastic or rubber, basically products that won't break in transit.

Avoid electronics and glass at all costs. It's because these types of products are notorious for being broken in shipping, which results in a lot of returns. First-time sellers can face extreme financial burdens if their return rate is high.

Differentiation of products

Maybe you already have a type of product in mind, now that you know how to find a niche and what type of products are best. But how are you going to make yourself stand out?

It's not as simple as slapping your logo on and entering the market. You need to make your listing and product stand out amongst the rest. The product you create must shine and be a beacon of light for all consumers to follow.

What can you do to improve the product even a little bit?

  • Make the design and colors different.

  • Make your product better than existing products in solving a problem.

  • Change or improve the material.

  • Two products could be included in one package.

  • Provide a greater degree of customizability.

Having said that, there is no need to reinvent the wheel. People won't know to search for it if the product is so unique.

Affordability

A good idea is to pick a product you can sell for around $15-$50 USD.

By the time you pay for manufacturing, shipping, and Amazon FBA fees, you will be lucky to break even if your product is under $15.

If your product costs more than $50, you have exceeded the "impulse buy threshold". Customers will be more hesitant to purchase your product. In general, people do not buy products over $50 on a whim. Consequently, the likelihood of the potential customer clicking the "Buy Now" button is lowered, and the person might even go back to check out competitors again.

However, proceed with caution if you do not aim to operate within the $15-$50 range. First-time sellers may find it more difficult, so I would advise you to stay within that range.

Shipment

You should generally choose a lightweight, small item. Shipping costs increase with the weight and size of a product, as one might anticipate. There are two methods of shipping.

Ocean shipping is the first method. This is the cheaper and more common option, but it can be very slow, so you must carefully plan your inventory.

You can also ship your inventory by air, which involves bringing it over in a plane. Typically, Amazon FBA Fulfillment Centers receive merchandise much faster than ocean shipping. A disadvantage of this method is that it is usually only cost-effective for small, lightweight inventory; otherwise, it is generally best to choose ocean shipping.

Other considerations

There are three largest Amazon markets in the world: the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Your product will likely be best suited for at least one, if not all, of these places. You need to make sure your product will appeal to an audience in the market you intend to target. Canada might sell a lot of hockey sticks, but Mexico...not so much.

First-time draco slides amazon sellers should avoid any seasonal products, since they can cause a number of complications. It is difficult to keep track of inventory when selling seasonal products.
