Plot

On the day of her wedding, Yeon-Hee (Jang Seo-Hee) collapses. She is sent to the hospital where they diagnose her with uterine cancer. She must undergo surgery to remove her uterus. After the surgery, Yeon-Hee is unable to have children. Her marriage goes through rocky times. Yeon-Hee's mother-in-law demands that Yeon-Hee have a baby via a surrogate mother and Yeon-Hee acquiesces to her wishes. Her life goes through further turmoil.

After the death of her older brother, Hwa-Young's (Lee Chae-Young) family goes through financial ruin. She believes her older brother's death was caused by Yeon-Hee. Hwa-Young now supports her family, but she is dumped by her boyfriend, Byeong-Kook (Hwang Dong-Joo). Her ex-boyfriend marries Yeon-Hee who comes from a wealthy family. Hwa-Young decides to take revenge on Yeon-Hee.

Hwa-Young becomes the surrogate mother for Yeon-Hee, with plans to later take child away from her.

• Kim Da-Hyun was offered a lead male role in the drama, but declined due to scheduling issues.

Jang Seo-hee Returns as Vengeful Woman in New Soap

Actress Jang Seo-hee has joined a TV drama for the first time in four years since 2010.

"Cuckoo Nest", which began airing on Tuesday, is yet another soap opera that deals with lurid subject matter like adultery, the distorted relationships between family members and lovers, and vengeance while featuring strong language and scenes of domestic violence.

Cast as an unhappily married woman, she is forced to deal with the death of her boyfriend, a diagnosis of uterine cancer and pressure from her mother-in-law to get divorced from the first episode.

"A lurid melodrama like this must have Jang Seo-hee in it. She was the most sought-after actress", said producer Kwak Gi-won.

Although Jang started acting as a child and has already appeared in 31 dramas, she is most well known for her roles in such lurid dramas as "Miss Mermaid" and "Temptation of Wife".

As her success is based on featuring in the most extreme kind of melodramas -- which the actress calls a genre in their own right -- she is sometimes criticized for having a narrow acting range.

But critics say Jang is a reliable actor whose talents regrettably tend to get overshadowed by the type of dramas that have brought her fame.

Jang Seo-hee and Lee Chae-yeong in the making of posters

The poster making of the new KBS 2TV daily drama "Cuckoo Nest" was revealed.

"Cuckoo Nest" starring Jang Seo-hee and Lee Chae-yeong is in the middle of poster making.

The two women in the pictures create an intense but secretive atmosphere.

Their contrasting images show what character they are going to be like in the drama and it reveals their unavoidable fate of conflict.

Jang Seo-hee is wearing a black and white outfit, looking elegant and proud. She looks weak and soft but she's one with innocence and strength within her. She takes on the role of Baek Yeon-hee.

Lee Chae-yeong is wearing a red dress that shows her off volumes and looks intimidating enough with her femme fatale eyes.

The two of them worked very well during the poster making and actually are quite good friends.

Meanwhile, "Cuckoo Nest" is about a woman whose brother was killed seeking revenge by becoming a surrogate mother and protecting her life and child. To be broadcasted on the 2nd of June after "Women By Nature".

Son Ga-yeong cast for "Cuckoo Nest"


ctress Son Ga-yeong is starring as Jang Seo-hee's little sister.

According to Son Ga-yeong's agency, "Cuckoo Nest" cast her as Baek Yeon-hee's (Jang Seo-hee) younger sister Baek Joon-hee.

Son Ga-yeong starred in the MBC drama "Gu Family Book" as a bad character who bullied Chung-jo (Lee Yoo-bi). She starred in "Indomitable Daughters-In-Law" as Sin-woo's (Park Yoon-jae) ex-girlfriend who confused Sin-woo once again and tried to break him and Yeong-sim (Sin Ae-ra) up.

This time, she's Baek Joon-hee, sister to Baek Yeon-hee and a fashion designer at her father Baek Cheol's company. Like the rich girl that she is, she is bold and proud but sometimes weak at heart and clumsy.

Meanwhile, "Cuckoo Nest" is about a woman whose brother was killed seeking revenge by becoming a surrogate mother and protecting her life and child. It's a collaboration by Kwak Gi-won and Hwang Soon-yeong. It is also Jang Seo-hee's first come back in 4 years. To be broadcasted on the 2nd of June.
