KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 11, 2013): Three policemen were charged in the magistrate’s court today with extorting RM67.53 from an Indonesian motorist at the Technology Park, Bukit Jalil, on Sunday.

Corporal Kamaruddin Ab Rashid, 51, Lance Corporal Mohd Zain@hasbullah Mamat, 35 and constable Mohammad Ridhwan Abd Malek of the Bukit Jalil police station were jointly charged under Section 384 of the Penal Code. They were alleged to have committed the offence against Nuris Suhud near a petrol station at the Technology Park at 10pm on the day in question.

All three claimed trial. They face up to 10 years’ imprisonment, caning or a fine or any two of the penalties if found guilty.

Magistrate Saifulakmal Said allowed bail of RM2,000 for each of the accused and impounded their passports.

He set Jan 16 for mention of the case.

It is learned that another policeman, who was also with the accused when the crime took place, was released after investigations were completed.
