The Olsen Twins on coming to Australia:
"Oh, I'm so excited about it," says Ashley. "I mean, the last couple of times we visited Australia it's been for 24-hour trips. We haven't really been able to spend time, so I'm really excited to be there for the week."
"I'm super-excited to go on a nice little trip with my sister," says Mary-Kate. "It's going to be fun."
The Olsen twins not only have a loving bond as sisters, but they are also bonded by the history of their phenomenal fame: the thousands of photo shoots, countless television and film appearances, the ups and downs of tabloid gossip, not to mention their shared passion for oversized sunnies.
"We just like big sunglasses," quips Ashley, matter-of-factly. "It's what looks good on our face."
But whatever you do, don't call them "role models". At 20, the Olsens are keen to rid themselves of the pressure of living up to other people's expectations - they just want to be themselves.
"We're not saying we are perfect," says Ashley. "You have to live your own life and not think about that pressure.
"It was harder for us when we were younger, 14 or 15. Going through high school, but working a lot, and people telling us 'you are role models, so be careful what you do'. Now that we're older we just kind of live our lives."
Mary-Kate adds:
"I think we've been labelled as role models since we were very young. My sister and I don't look at ourselves as role models - I think that's a huge responsibility. The best we can do is take care of ourselves and experience life for ourselves and not really let the outside world affect us." www.smh.com.au |
