Himpunan Hijau 2.0: Langkah Lestari

Our health and well-being are not for sale!

"You are not qualified to judge, leave it to the experts!"
"The company will invest a lot of money, you don't want development?"
"We assure you that it is safe. This project is in the best interest of the rakyat ."
"Our study shows that the toxicity is within permissible level."
"Please sacrifice!"

Sounds familiar? These are the justifications the BN government uses to ram unpopular projects down the throats of the Malaysian public.

Of course, BN only needs to defend their toxic projects if the public finds out about them. To circumvent this inconvenience, the government hides as much information from the public as possible. Hazardous projects are approved secretly with no prior consent from the real stakeholders - the local residents. Project proposals and trade agreements that affect the lives of the general public are deceitfully concealed.

For 54 years, the BN government has betrayed public trust. Not only have they sign away the welfare of the people they are elected to protect, they refuse to yield to public demands even after their treachery is discovered. Unsurprisingly, their reluctance is due to their stake in the projects they approved! In some instances, they collude with foreign corporations to plunder the nation as well. The profits from these destructive ventures are private, while the public is made to bear the health and social consequences.

The people will take no more of this abuse. On 26 February 2012, from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, the people will rally in MPK Field 1 in Kuantan to demand for the cancellation of all questionable projects in the country. The people will also demand for the democratization of the economic development of the country. This country belongs to the rakyat, not the government. It is us, the rakyat who dictates which project to accept, and which project to reject.

The way the country is managed must be changed. We sincerely hope that you will attend the rally, which we call Himpunan Hijau 2.0, to support the call to realign our country's development to a more sustainable, more democratic and greener path. Thank you.
