A video of an Indian woman getting upset over being served a non-vegetarian burger at a McDonald's restaurant in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has gone viral, with many netizens saying she should have checked first.

Instagrammer @youngn.lost, who is based in Singapore, posted the video on Nov 11, with the caption: "An Indian tourist threw her burger box on the floor and confronted a MacDonald staff over not being told that the burger she bought is not vegetarian. Your thoughts on this incident?"

The 36-second clip, geotagged as KLIA, shows a distraught woman talking to a staff member at the McDonald's outlet.

The woman claims to have ordered a vegetarian burger, adding that she is a regular at McDonald's in India where she often has such burgers. She adds that the box the burger came in does not say it contains meat.

"I am from India, how can you?" she says. The staff member remains calm, saying: "I know you are from India."

The video was also shared on TikTok, where it had garnered 217,300 views, 3,911 reactions and 2,502 comments at press time.

The video was picked up by India news outlet Hindustan Times with the headline, "'I'm from India, how can you?': Woman confronts McDonald's staff in Singapore after being served non-veg burger."

Many netizens pointed out that unlike in India, the menu at McDonald's in Singapore and Malaysia does not typically offer vegetarian burgers. Most felt it was the woman's responsibility to check.

"Well, the staff are not obligated to check each customer's dietary preferences. I would be extra careful to check before placing my order to ensure the food was vegan or vegetarian," said an Instagram user.

"if u r vegetarian y go to McDonald? This is not India... Only India has Mcd has vege Burger," said a TikToker.

Another pointed out: "There (are) pictures of the burgers posted in the menu."

Some netizens even suggested it was the customer's way of getting a free meal.
