TOKYO -- Japan will hold talks with Malaysia on storing Japanese power plant and industrial emissions of carbon dioxide in the Southeast Asian nation, with an aim of sending the first shipment in 2028, Nikkei has learned.
Yasutoshi Nishimura, Japan's minister for economy, trade and industry, is expected to meet with senior executives from Malaysia's state-run energy group Petronas during a series of Japanese-hosted conferences on decarbonization starting Monday.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade an Industry and the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on specific steps toward the carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects with Petronas.
Under the proposed projects, carbon dioxide emitted in Japan would be liquefied and transported by ship for storage at sites in Malaysia including offshore natural gas fields. Fuels with low environmental impact, such as hydrogen or ammonia, would be used to power the vessels.
If successful, the joint initiative would see the first international carbon dioxide shipment in Asia. Tokyo hopes the venture may serve as a model for setting rules on carbon dioxide transportation the region.
Under proposed international emissions rules, carbon dioxide that is captured and stored underground would count as an emissions reduction.
Japan and Southeast Asian nations, which are highly dependent on fossil fuels, see CCS as a promising way to rein in emissions while maintaining stable supplies of electricity.
Japan aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with plans to store 120 million to 240 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year underground -- equivalent to 10% to 20% of current emissions.
Feasibility studies for underground carbon dioxide storage are underway in various sites in Japan, including the city of Tomakomai on the northern island of Hokkaido. Malaysia is considered to have a large number of suitable sites that could help Japan diversify its storage options.
Introducing CCS technology will require around 4 trillion yen ($27 billion) of investment over the next 10 years and tens of trillions of yen more after that, according to Japanese government estimates. Some funding will come from so-called "green transformation" transition bonds, issuance of which begins this fiscal year.
Achieving widespread use of carbon capture technology faces the challenges of attracting private-sector investment and lowering costs. In Europe, Norway and Denmark are among the pioneers in cross-border CCS projects.

Pendatang pulak dah tak nak buat kerja 3D........dia orang sibuk meniaga sampai orang tempatanpun tak bolih nak meniaga dah. Lepas ni ambil nurse dari benua kecil India padahal rakyat Malaysia melambak tak de kerja. Tak cukup dengan itu.........nak ambil Negro pulak. Hancuuus Malaysia.

Sedihnya jadi rakyat Malaysia. Pemimpin terus terusanlah menjahanamkan negara. Hasil untung semua dapat ke dia. Beli aset di luar negara. Dah pencen migrate suka suka. Tinggallah rakyat menang sorak saja. |

Haiyo TT pun bangang gak. CCS ni bukan baru. Dah lama punya cerita tahun ni derang test kapal bawa liqudified co2. Ccs ni is a technology where instead of releasing co2 to the amosphere dan rosakkan planet apa ke jadah, we capture and store for future use. Banyak boleh buat. Kilang air gas guna kilang carlsberg pun guna kolang buat simen buat pastik etc. Dia store kat underground caverns la for example in iran, kat malaysia dia store kat depleted reservoirs offshore. Petronas kata 60% storage derang guna 40% derang sewakan. Nanti nak pakai jolok je balik. |

Oklah tu jepun nak sedekah kat msia
Byk kilang2 industri berat gunakan CCS
Kalau jepun tak sedekahkan pun these plants tetap akan sourced for it from oth producers
Tak suka co² kalu, jgn guna bahan bakar, jgn naik kenderaan yg guna fossil fuels & sila tanam pokok banyak2 serata alam
