Frilled shark
The frilled shark (Chlamydoselachus anguineus) is one of two extant species of shark in the family Chlamydoselachidae, with a wide but patchy distribution in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.


Sharpnose sevengill shark
The sharpnose sevengill shark (Heptranchias perlo) is a species of shark in the family Hexanchidae, and the only species in the genus Heptranchias. Found almost circumglobally in deep water.


Bluntnose sixgill shark
The bluntnose sixgill shark, Hexanchus griseus, often simply called the cow shark, is the largest hexanchoid shark, growing to more than 5.4 m (18 ft) in length.


Bigeyed sixgill shark
The bigeyed sixgill shark, Hexanchus nakamurai, is found around the Strait of Florida, around Cuba and the Bahamas, East Africa and Madagascar, the Philippines, and Taiwan, at depths of between 90 to 600 m, usually on the bottom.


Broadnose sevengill shark
The broadnose sevengill shark (Notorynchus cepedianus) is the only extant member of the genus Notorynchus, in the family Hexanchidae. It is recognizable because of its seven gill slits, while most shark species have five gill slits, with the exception of the members of the order Hexanchiformes and the sixgill sawshark.


Needle dogfish
The needle dogfish, Centrophorus acus, is a small, little-known deepwater shark. It is found in the northern Gulf of Mexico and the western Pacific Ocean around Honshū, Japan.

gulper shark
The gulper shark, Centrophorus granulosus, is a large common deep-water dogfish. Gulper sharks have no anal fin, two dorsal fins with spines, a long, broad snout, widely spaced flat denticles, and angular, extended pectoral fins. Maximum length is 1.5 m.


Dumb gulper shark
The dumb gulper shark, Centrophorus harrissoni, is a rare deepwater dogfish, known from only two locations, one around Taiwan and the other along the East Coast of Australia. It is also known as harrison's deepsea dogfish. It may grow to be 43in (109 cm) long and has large, green eyes which help it see at 820 to 1260 feet (250 to 385 metres) under water.


Smallfin gulper shark
The smallfin gulper shark, Centrophorus moluccensis, is a medium-sized deepwater dogfish.

Taiwan gulper shark
The Taiwan gulper shark, Centrophorus niaukang, is a locally common, large deepwater shark.


Birdbeak dogfish
The birdbeak dogfish, Deania calcea, is a dogfish shark of the family Deania found in the Pacific Ocean around Honshū, Japan, Southern Australia, New Zealand, and Chile, and in the Atlantic Ocean from Iceland south to the Cape of Good Hope.


Kitefin shark
The kitefin shark or seal shark (Dalatias licha) is a species of dogfish shark in the family Dalatiidae, and the only species in its genus. It is found sporadically around the world, usually close to the sea floor at depths of 200–600 m (660–2,000 ft).


Pygmy shark
The pygmy shark, Euprotomicrus bispinatus, the second-smallest of all the shark species after the dwarf lanternshark, is a sleeper shark of the Dalatiidae family, the only member of the genus Euprotomicrus. Their length is up to about 25 cm (10 in) for females and about 22 cm (8.7 in) for males.

Cookiecutter shark
The cookiecutter shark (Isistius brasiliensis), also called the cigar shark, is a species of small dogfish shark in the family Dalatiidae. This shark occurs in warm, oceanic waters worldwide, particularly near islands, and has been recorded from as deep as 3.7 km (2.3 mi). It migrates vertically up to 3 km (1.9 mi) every day, approaching the surface at dusk and descending with the dawn. Reaching only 42–56 cm (17–22 in) in length.


Largetooth cookiecutter shark
The largetooth cookiecutter shark (Isistius plutodus) is a rare species of dogfish shark in the family Dalatiidae, reported from depths of 60–200 m (200–660 ft) at scattered locations in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. As its common name suggests, it is similar in appearance to the cookiecutter shark (I. brasiliensis) but has much larger lower teeth. Most individuals also lack the dark "collar" of I. brasiliensis. This species reaches a maximum known length of 42 cm (17 in).



Smalleye pygmy shark
The smalleye pygmy shark (Squaliolus aliae) is a little-known species of dogfish shark in the family Dalatiidae, found in water 150–2,000 m (490–6,600 ft) deep near Japan, the Philippines, and Australia. It migrates vertically daily, spending the day in deep water and the night in shallower water. One of the smallest shark species.


Spined pygmy shark
The spined pygmy shark (Squaliolus laticaudus) is a species of dogfish shark in the family Dalatiidae found widely in all oceans. With a maximum known length of 28 cm (11 in), it is one of the smallest living sharks.


Bramble shark
The bramble shark, Echinorhinus brucus, is covered with large, thorn-like denticles, and hence the name "bramble" shark.


Prickly shark
The prickly shark, Echinorhinus cookei, is a species of large bottom dwelling shark from the Pacific Ocean.


Hooktooth dogfish
The hooktooth dogfish, Aculeola nigra, is a small, little known dogfish, the only member of the genus Aculeola.The type specimen is held at the National Natural History Museum, Santiago, Chile.

Crocodile shark
The crocodile shark (Pseudocarcharias kamoharai) is a species of mackerel shark and the only member of the family Pseudocarchariidae. A specialized inhabitant of the mesopelagic zone, the crocodile shark can be found worldwide in tropical waters from the surface to a depth of 590 m (1,940 ft).


Combtooth dogfish
he combtooth dogfish has no anal fin, grooved dorsal spines, two dorsal fins of about same size, pointed nose, large eyes, small gill slits, a short abdomen, short caudal peduncle, and is blackish-brown in color with white-tipped fins. It grows to a maximum of 50 cm.


Black dogfish
The black dogfish (Centroscyllium fabricii) is a species of dogfish shark in the family Etmopteridae. It is common over the outer continental shelf and continental slope at a depth of 180–2,250 m (590–7,380 ft). Females generally inhabit deeper water than males, and depending on the region, smaller sharks may occur at a different depth than larger ones.


Granular dogfish
The granular dogfish has no anal fin, two dorsal spines with the second one much larger than the first, a large second dorsal fin, a long abdomen, small pectoral and pelvic fins, a large eye, prominent nostrils and spiracles, and brownish-black coloration. It is very small, growing to only 28 cm.


Broadbanded lanternshark
The broadbanded lanternshark, Etmopterus gracilispinis, is a shark of the family Dalatiidae found in the western and southeast Atlantic, between latitudes 40°N and 45°S, at depths of between 70 and 1,000 m. Its length is up to 35 cm.


Caribbean lanternshark
The Caribbean lanternshark, Etmopterus hillianus, is a shark of the family Dalatiidae found in the eastern and western Atlantic at depths of between 180 and 720 m. Its length is up to 50 cm.


African lanternshark
The African lanternshark, Etmopterus polli, is a shark of the family Dalatiidae found in the eastern Atlantic between latitudes 12°N and 18°S, at depths of between 300 and 1,000 m. Its length is up to 30 cm.


Great lanternshark
The great lanternshark, Etmopterus princeps, is a shark of the family Dalatiidae found in the northeast and northwest Atlantic.


Smooth lanternshark
The smooth lanternshark or slender lanternshark (Etmopterus pusillus) is a species of dogfish shark in the family Etmopteridae, found widely in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It inhabits benthic environments at a depth of 274–1,000 m (899–3,300 ft), and pelagic environments at a depth of 0–708 m (0–2,323 ft).


Fringefin lanternshark
The fringefin lanternshark, Etmopterus schultzi, is a shark of the family Dalatiidae found in the western central Atlantic from Texas to Florida, northern Gulf of Mexico, and Mexico.

Prickly dogfish
The prickly dogfish (Oxynotus bruniensis) is a poorly known species of dogfish shark in the family Oxynotidae, inhabiting temperate Australian and New Zealand waters. Reaching a length of 75 cm (30 in), this brown to gray shark has a very thick body with a prominent "humpback" and extremely rough skin.


Plunket shark
The plunket shark, Centroscymnus plunketi, is a sleeper shark of the family Dalatiidae, found around south eastern Australia, and New Zealand, at depths of between 220 and 1,550 m over continental shelves. It reaches a length of 130 cm.


Velvet dogfish
The velvet dogfish, Zameus squamulosus, is a harmless sleeper shark of the family Dalatiidae, found around the world between latitudes 64°N and 48°S, from the surface to 2,000 m. Its length is up to 84 cm.


Greenland shark
The Greenland shark, Somniosus microcephalus, also known as the sleeper shark, gurry shark, ground shark, grey shark, or by the Inuit languages name Eqalussuaq, is a large shark native to the waters of the North Atlantic Ocean around Greenland and Iceland. Large Greenland sharks grow to 6.4 m (21 ft) and 1000 kg (2200 lbs),and possibly up to 7.3 m (24 ft).


Pacific sleeper shark
The Pacific sleeper shark, Somniosus pacificus, is a sleeper shark of the family Somniosidae, found circumglobally on continental shelves and slopes in temperate waters between latitudes 70°N and 47°S, from the surface to 2,000 metres (6,600 ft). Its length is up to 4.4 metres (14 ft), although FishBase accepts that it could possibly reach 7 metres (23 ft).


Roughskin spurdog
The roughskin spurdog, Cirrhigaleus asper, is a dogfish of the family Squalidae, found circumglobally between latitudes 35°N and 35°S, at depths of between 200 and 600 m. It reaches a length of 1.2 m.


Southern Mandarin Dogfish
Cirrhigaleus australis, also known as the Southern Mandarin Dogfish, is a species of Mandarin dogfish shark in the genus Cirrhigaleus. It was distinguished from Cirrhigaleus barbifer, which lives in the North Pacific, on an expedition in the coral reefs near Australia in 2007. It is now known to live in the temperate waters east of Australia and possibly around New Zealand, at depths of 146-640 meters.


Mandarin dogfish
The mandarin dogfish, Cirrhigaleus barbifer, is a dogfish, a member of the family Squalidae in the order Squaliformes.

Cuban dogfish
The Cuban dogfish, Squalus cubensis, is a dogfish, a member of the family Squalidae in the order Squaliformes.It inhabits continental shelves and uppermost slopes at depths from 60 to 380 m. Its length is up to 110 cm.


Shortnose spurdog
The shortnose spurdog, Squalus megalops, is a dogfish, a member of the family Squalidae, found at depths from 30 to 750 m on the eastern coast Australia, Its length is up to 71 cm.


Blacktailed spurdog
The blacktailed spurdog, Squalus melanurus, is a dogfish, a member of the family Squalidae, found around New Caledonia in the central Pacific Ocean, at depths from 320 to 320 m. Its length is up to 75 cm.


Shortspine spurdog
The shortspine spurdog, Squalus mitsukurii, is a dogfish, a member of the family Squalidae, found around the world on continental shelves in temperate and subtropical oceans between latitudes 45°N and 55°S, from the surface to 950 m. Its length is up to 75 cm.


Sixgill sawshark
The sixgill sawshark, Pliotrema warreni, the only member of the genus Pliotrema, is a sawshark of the family Pristiophoridae, found in the subtropical waters of the western Indian Ocean between latitudes 23° S and 37° S, at depths of between 60 and 430 m. Its length is up to about 1.7 m.

The Bahamas sawshark, Pristiophorus schroederi, is a sawshark of the family Pristiophoridae, found in the western Central Atlantic Ocean from the Bahamas and Cuba at depths of between 400 and 1,000 m. These sharks are at least 80 cm long.


Sawback angelshark
he sawback angelshark, Squatina aculeata, is an angel shark of the family Squatinidae found in the eastern Atlantic between latitudes 43°N and 19°S, at depths of between 30 and 500 m. Its length is up to 1.88 m.


Argentine angelshark
The Argentine angelshark, Squatina argentina, is an angel shark of the family Squatinidae found in the southwest Atlantic from southern Brazil to Argentina between latitudes 19°S and 53°S, at depths of between 50 and 320 m. Its length is up to 1.7 m.


Chilean angelshark
The Chilean angelshark, Squatina armata, is an angel shark of the family Squatinidae found in the subtropical waters of Chile. Its length is up to 1.03 m, although the holotype is lost.

Sand devil
The sand devil or Atlantic angel shark, Squatina dumeril, is an angel shark of the family Squatinidae found in the outer continental shelf of the western Atlantic between latitudes 43°N and 9°N. It is found from the surface to depths of 1,400 m, and its maximum length is 1.5 m.

The Taiwan angelshark, Squatina formosa, is an angel shark of the family Squatinidae found around Taiwan between latitudes 24° N and 22° N, at depths of between 185 and 220 m. Its length is up to 46 cm for an immature female - there are no adult specimens.


Angular angel shark
The angular angel shark, Squatina guggenheim, is an angel shark of the family Squatinidae found off southern Brazil and Argentina at depths of between 4 and 265 m. Its length is up to 1.3 m.


Japanese angelshark
The Japanese angelshark, Squatina japonica, is an angel shark of the family Squatinidae found in the western Pacific from Japan, the Yellow Sea, Korea, northern China, and the Philippines between latitudes 41° N and 19° N. Its length is up to 2 m.


Clouded angelshark

Smoothback angelshark
The smoothback angelshark, Squatina oculata, is an angel shark of the family Squatinidae found in the eastern Atlantic between latitudes 47°N and 28°S. Its length is up to 1.6 metre.


Angelshark Squatina squatina
The angelshark (Squatina squatina) is a species of shark in the family Squatinidae (known generally also as angel sharks), once widespread in the coastal waters of the northeastern Atlantic Ocean.It measures up to 2.4 m (7.9 ft) long.


Ornate angelshark
The ornate angelshark, Squatina tergocellata, is an angel shark of the family Squatinidae endemic to southeast Australia between latitudes 30° S and 35° S, at depths of between 130 and 400 m. Its length is up to 1.4 m.
