GEORGE TOWN: Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB) chairman Dr P. Ramasamy said he is ready to be investigated over claims of committing abuse of power and criminal breach of trust (CBT).

The Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang said he and PHEB were open to being investigated by the National Audit Department (NAD), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or anyone else for the matter.

"This is nothing new. I have had many reports lodged against me. They can investigate the board and me. If there is any wrongdoing, they can take the necessary action.

"Our record over the years speaks for itself. The PHEB is actually the envy of similar boards in other states," he told newsmen at his office here today.

He was commenting on reports lodged by PHEB executive director Datuk M. Ramachandran against him. Ramasamy acknowleged that NAD officers had gone to PHEB to look through documents due to allegations made against him.

However, he said the NAD officers left without taking anything.

"They were initially supposed to be here for five days but they left after only spending half the day here," he said.

Ramasamy said allegations hurled against him, which were reported in an online portal, were an attempt of diverting attention from the complainant himself.

He said PHEB and its board of commissioners had actually launched an internal probe against the complainant in October following numerous complaints of alleged misconduct and abuse of power.

He said PHEB had lodged its own police report against Ramachandran and also the online portal and the author of an article titled "DCM II Ramasamy, PHEB under probe for abuse of power, CBT?", which was published yesterday.

Ramasamy said he has also instructed his lawyers to initiate legal action against Ramachandran, the online portal and author of the article for defamation.
