KuALA LUMPUR, June 30 — A photograph circulating on social media recently has intensified speculation in Sabah that its international airport in Kota Kinabalu may be shifted to Kimanis, some 45 minutes' drive from the state capital.
The photo shows four men seated at a long table against a backdrop with the words "Relocation of Kota Kinabalu International Airport to Kimanis" and "June 2022", though the exact date has been obscured.
News portal The Vibes reported that the photo was supposedly a rehearsal for a signing ceremony between state-owned strategic investment arm, Qhazanah Sabah Bhd, and property developer Berjaya Land Bhd that is supposed to take place today.
It alleged that two of the four men pictured to be Qhazanah Sabah CEO Ahmad Rizal Dahli and Berjaya Group founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan.
The Vibes cited anonymous sources from Qhazanah Sabah as confirming the authenticity of the picture, but refusing further comment.

Sabah investment firm Qhazanah signs MoU to study relocating KKIA to Kimanis

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is studying relocating Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) in Tanjung Aru here to Kimanis.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sabah's strategic investment arm Qhazanah Sabah Bhd (QSB) and Berjaya Land Bhd (B-Land) was signed today to explore the matter.
"The MoU establishes preliminary collaboration between both companies, paving the way for QSB to carry out feasibility studies and exploratory works for the proposed project.
"Everything is preliminary at the moment until consensus with all stakeholders is reached," said QSB group chief executive officer Ahmad Rizal Dahli in a statement.
Ahmad said the limited land area around the airport, which was surrounded by privately owned land and its proximity to Kota Kinabalu city centre, made it unlikely that it could expanded.
"On top of that, the proximity can be one of the risk factors for delayed development of the city centre due to the regulations and restrictions set by having an airport nearby.
"Relocating KKIA to Kimanis, on the other hand, can result in the airport having more than one terminal building and runway.
"Sabah will then be able to leverage its geographically central location in Southeast Asia to explore becoming an air travel hub in east Asian. The possibilities are there," he said.
Ahmad said QSB had been tasked with looking into various strategic development initiatives to support the economic growth of Sabah, including the possible relocation of KKIA to Kimanis.
He said feedback from stakeholders would be taken into consideration, and there had to be consensus before the relocation was decided on.
"The relocation of KKIA had been raised in various discussions across the board for a decade. This MoU allows us to look at this in more detail, particularly in terms of economic viability and social impact assessment.
"We are looking forward to tapping on the expertise brought on board by the early partnership with B-Land, particularly on infrastructure development.
"Any outcome as a result of the feasibility studies would be made in the best interest of the state. This has always been and will continue to be our focus in whatever we do," he said.
During the signing, Ahmad represented QSB and was witnessed by its group company secretary, Rudy Jaglul.
Signing on behalf of B-Land was its deputy chairman and Berjaya Corporation Bhd joint group chief executive officer, Syed Ali Shahul Hameed, with Berjaya Corporation Bhd chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun acting as witness.
Present at the event were QSB chairman Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak and director Datuk Johnson Tee and the B-Land chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohd Zin.

Kimanis? Apooooooo lah. Jalan sepanjang panjang dari Ranau nak ke Beluran tu pun lebih baik dibetulkan dulu, tak pun alang alang ke Checkpoint. Lagi bagus dari mo kasi pindah epot. |

Sapa ada property di Kimanis/dekat2 Kimanis boleh la senyum lebar sebab harga naik. Apartment Melinsung Summer Bay yang senduuuu gila banyak kena lelong tu pun boleh la naik harga lepas ni. |

Masa iols posting kat sabah dulu takde bas pink aka bmw bas mini wilayah kat bandar KK. Yang ada hanyalah van yg bertindak sebagai bas. Nak gi asia jaya ke, tuaran, sinsuran, menggatal etc.

Memang dah lama kan nak pindah, dekat sgt air port tu dengan kawasan bandar yg banyak bangunan dan perumahan... Bahaya kalau kapal salah landing or terbabas ke. Lagipun xsilap bahagian² sebelah kimanis tu xbnyk sgt pembangunan. Bebaru nie je round² negeri sendirik..... Dengan perpindahan airport kat kawasan tu, diharap gov upgradelah jalan² yg ada kat sana tu....Rasa beza jauh betul area kk dengan area luar bandar, balik je dari round² debu kereta 5 inci LOL. Kita orang sampai sesat drive ikut Google maps tengah2 jalan Kiri kanan ladang kelapa sawit dgn line xde pastu kereta kita orang yg the only one time tu LOLLL dah lah pompuan semua dalam kereta. Itu lah..ummah yg sudah beli property area Papar buli senyum sinis psl harga melambung..buli pasang iklan 15 minit perjalanan ke PIA a.k.a Papar International Airport.. |

100% setuju..once ada airport di sana, jalanraya akan upgrade & MRT mungkin akan ada...dari segi lokasi memang sesuai sbb tanah di sana rata tiada bukit langsung
