PETALING JAYA: A waiter was hauled to the magistrate's court here today for having 58 pieces of women's undergarments believed to have been stolen, in his possession.
Ong Kok Thye, 23, pleaded not guilty to the offence before magistrate M. Barath.
According to the charge sheet, Ong who was found to have in his possession panties, bras and shorts, had failed to provide satisfactory evidence on how he got the undergarments.
He allegedly committed the offence at a condominium unit in Dataran Mentari, here, at about 12.35pm on June 15.
The offence under Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955, carries a maximum fine of RM1,000 or a jail term of not more than a year or both, if convicted.
The court did not allow Ong bail as he had no surety who was present in court.
His case will be up for mention on Sept 9.
Deputy public prosecutor Sharifah Zafirah Syed Mustapa prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
It was reported that a 23-year old man with a fetish for underwear was arrested for stealing 58 pieces of women's clothing of various kinds from his neighbour.
The suspect's doings were exposed when the victim, a 35-year old woman spotted the suspect loitering near her unit and became suspicious.
