Peugeot RCZ wins beauty contest
The Peugeot RCZ has been named as the most beautiful car of the year.
The 2+2 coupe, first unveiled as a prototype at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, topped a poll of 650,000 drivers in 62 countries, winning a third of the votes cast in what was the 25th anniversary of the poll.
BMW's Z4 came second with 23 per cent of the votes, while the Citroen DS3 was third just behind on 22 per cent.
Peugeot's winning design combined the looks of the manufacturer's 308 sedan with the shape of the iconic Audi TT.
The car will be available next year with a 1.6 litre, 156bhp engine.

Stefan GP has vowed to remain in a state of readiness to move into Formula 1 as soon as it can, despite confirmation that Team US F1 and Campos Meta could miss three races without sacrificing their entry.
Amid continued uncertainty about whether financial problems will force US F1 and Campos to miss the start of the season, it has emerged that the new Concorde Agreement provides a clause stating that teams are only deemed to have failed to participate in the championship if they do not compete in more than three events.
This means that US F1 and Campos could still race on from the fourth round of the season - the Chinese Grand Prix - and leave F1 hopefuls Stefan GP waiting on the sidelines until April 18 despite claiming it has the funds and a car ready to compete from the first event.
And although FIA president Jean Todt has further made it clear that Stefan GP will not automatically get in if either US F1 or Campos fail to make it, that has not stopped the Serbian outfit continuing its preparations.
AUTOSPORT has learned that Stefan GP has just shipped a second container of race equipment to Kuala Lumpur for the Malaysian Grand Prix - having sent previous freight to the season-opening race in Bahrain.
These two containers will be used to cover the team for the first four races of the season should its bid to get an entry be successful.
Team boss Zoran Stefanovich told AUTOSPORT that he believes he is doing the right thing in shipping equipment to cover the first four races - and denies any talk his outfit is after anything out of the ordinary.
"It is a business decision," Stefanovich said about the decision to send freight. "We didn't say at any time nor at any moment imply that we need a sort of preferential special status or automatic entry. We have said that on merit we can do it. We are working and we can do this.
"If it is not enough for the sport, the we have no problem with this. But the question must then arise: why are we not sufficiently good for this sport?
"If that is the case, then this sport has a problem - and in my opinion the sport does have a problem in organising a sufficient number of teams. That is just our opinion - but we stand with this."
He added: "If someone is not going in, it should be filled with someone who could go in."
Although doubts continue about US F1 and Campos, both teams have remained adamant up until now that they remain on course to race in Bahrain - which is now just more than one month away.
Neither team has yet set a firm date for testing their car, or has yet signed both their drivers for 2010.

FOTA’s F1 fans survey results in full
F1 fans want traditional tracks to stay, says FOTA's survey
The F1 teams’ association’s plans for the future of Formula 1 attracted a huge amount of interest yesterday.
Much of the teams’ recommendations were based on a survey of 8,500 F1 fans conducted by FOTA. F1 Fanatic can now reveal the results of that survey in full for the first time.
Among the report’s main findings are:
* Fans are most interested in seeing driver skill and least interested in changes to the regulations
* F1 is “Not likely to gain viewers even if races are shortened” (astonishingly they then suggested reducing race lengths)
* 58% of fans agreed Spa, Silverstone, Monaco and Monza should stay on the calendar (FOTA did not mention circuits in their proposal)
* The majority of fans are not concerned about a reduction in testing
* One third of fans want to see race grids reversed to put faster cars at the back
* Most fans think the level of overtaking is about right, but a significant number want to see more
* More than half of fans think more emphasis should be placed on winning races in determining the championship winner
* Half of fans want more on-board cameras on the cars and interactive television coverage
What do you think of the survey? What other recommendations should FOTA have made based on them? Have your say in the comments.

Villeneuve not giving up on 2010 seat
Tuesday 9th February 2010
Jacques Villeneuve remains optimistic that he can secure a place on the 2010 starting grid.
The former World Champion has been linked to a number of teams in the off season, but as of yet the possibility of a return to the sport he left in 2006 has failed to materialised past speculation.
Despite this, the 38-year-old maintains that he could still race this season.
"I continue to work hard to explain to teams why it is a good idea to put me in their car and, frankly, I feel that the message is getting better and better," the Canadian explained to ruefrontenac.
"I am convinced that many teams are disillusioned over the choices they made," he added, apparently in reference to the increase in 'pay drivers'.
Indeed, Villeneuve has now been linked to a position with Renault following reports that the money Russian driver Vitaly Petrov reportedly promised Renault when he joined the team may fail to materialise.
However, even if Petorv does lose his seat as a result the former BAR driver is only one of many that will be in contention for the drive. |
