Singapore Technologies owns Timoney Technology. The original 25 % stake in Timoney was increased to 51%. The orginal Terrex was co-developed between the two companies. But all the patents and tech now belong to ST. Essentially they did a Microsoft. Why re-invent the wheel? Just buy up the competition.

The pictues of the Terrexs in that post are the non-souped up ones which the SAF are not deploying now. Look at the front of the vehicles for the main difference. The ones which SAF are buying and deploying comes with additional armour so they look different.

There will be a couple of versions of the Terrex. The one in the picture comes with a remote weapon station which comes with a 40mm auto gerenade launcher/7.62 mm gun. But I understand that the gun will upgunned to .50 cal version for added range and power.

I think there will definitely be a version with a 25mm or 30mm cannon, with spike launchers. One such version is offerred to the Turkish Armed Forces in an ongoing competition;

I would not be surprised if there is also a Mobile Gun System Terrex like the Stryker M1128 Mobile Gun System seen below;

yup, actually  an evaluation on 8x8 IFV for replacing sibmas, condor and stomer are still going on by mindef. Most probably Malaysia will get the license from Zimbru to assemble the 8x8 zimbru and will be contracted to boustead holding Bhd.... but i dont know how this program was going on so far..

Impressive!! Impressive!! Impressive !!! To think that the entire SAF and not just specialist units would become more integrated than ever before with world class, first rate high tech equipment is just mind-boggling. How many armed forces in the world are at the stage the SAF is in currently?  I can only think of a few; Israel, US, Japan and perhaps France.

The message is clear.

Unless the enemy is a world power which could bring all her units to bear, the enemy will lose if it fights the SAF in a head-on open clash/warfare. Avoid a head-on clash with the SAF at all costs.

And it will be very very hard to fight the SAF in assymetric warfare and win.

The SAF is designed and being continously designed not just to win battles but the SAF wants to dominate the entire battlespace.

Who says UAVs cannot fly in the jungle? As opposed to on it. Read further...

Singapore reveals jungle trials using micro unmanned air vehicles
By Peter La Franchi

Singapore's Defence Science and Technology Agency has been conducting co-operative research with the US Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency to assess the effectiveness of micro unmanned air vehicle operations in jungle environments.

Two series of operational and technical experiments have been conducted over the past two years, says the Singapore agency's deputy chief executive for technology, Peng-Yam Tan. The air vehicle used in the research has been the Aerovironment Wasp MAV.

Tan told the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International's Unmanned Systems North America conference in Washington on 7 August that the research has focused on how MAVs "would feature in the three scenarios of conventional, jungle and maritime surveillance and the implications of the tropical environment".

The first round of experiments was carried out in October 2005. The second took place in October 2006 using a Singapore air force Eurocopter Super Puma helicopter as a UAV surrogate. It was used to fly a variety of developmental sensor payload types that could be carried by an MAV in a jungle environment.

Tan said this included hyperspectral sensors, three-dimensional radar, and day and night cameras.

The co-operative research included examination of MAV operations in both open and closed canopy jungle environments.

Wasp MAV/UAV;

Where can the enemy hide now? The moment you are spotted, expect an artillery shell or guided munitions landing on your head in seconds. That is the essence of precision fires employed by the 3G SAF.

ATK Develops Enhanced 30/40mm Mk44 Bushmaster Cannon System

ATK's Enhanced 40mm Cannon System Offers a Cost Effective, Compact and Lightweight Solution for Ground Combat Vehicles

Sep 08, 2009

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK), developer of the combat-proven 30/40mm Mk44 Bushmaster cannon system, has enhanced the system's effectiveness and performance to accommodate integration into various ground combat vehicles, including the United Kingdom's Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The enhanced cannon offers various vehicle mount and feed configurations, with either the traditional bayonet mount with a single recoil damper and linked feeder, or with a bespoke integral mount with dual recoil dampers and linkless feeder. The linkless feed system is driven from the cannon's integral electric motor and feeder gearing, eliminating the need for a separate magazine drive motor and associated burden on the vehicles' electrical system.

The enhanced cannon utilizes a modified 30mm Mk44 with additional recoil stroke capacity that reduces recoil loads associated with 40mm x 180mm ("Super 40") ammunition. The cannon can be easily upgraded to fire Super 40 ammunition with simple component changes by the end user.

Technical maturity of Super 40 ammunition was proven on the Mk44 during the U.S. Army's Advanced Light Armament for Combat Vehicles (ALACV) program, initiated to evaluate increased lethality in medium-caliber cannons. The ALACV program included live-fire tests of Target Practice-Tracer (TP-T), Programmable Airbust Munition (PABM), and Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot - Tracer (APFSDS-T) rounds and demonstrated a technology readiness level six (TRL-6) in 2003. Subsequent development of the "Super 40" system (cannon and ammunition) resulted in a common 180mm case design for both the full and sub-caliber rounds. The overall round design significantly improves system performance, accuracy, and reduced barrel wear.

As with previous Mk44 cannons, the enhanced cannon system is compatible with ATK's PABM, and offers the user increased tactical flexibility and greater lethality as compared to conventional high-explosive ammunition.

ATK has applied its integrated weapon systems capability to develop the most cost effective, compact and lightweight 40mm cannon system available today. A live fire demonstration of the Super 40 system is planned by December 2009.

ATK is a premier aerospace and defense company with more than 18,000 employees in 22 states, Puerto Rico and internationally, and revenues of approximately $4.8 billion. News and information can be found on the Internet at www.atk.com.
