Thiswas from 3 weeks ago. Originally I didn’t want to translate it, but itdoes offer a lot of information other interviews did not touch on. Ithought I needed to protect your guys, but it doesn’t look like youneed my protection. As always, the things he already said in otherinterviews were neglected.
The serious and composed Kim Bum doesn’t seem to like girls his ownage. Kim Bum confirmed this right away, saying, “I like older girls. IfI have to pick another ideal type, then I like petite girls, not tallgirls. It would be great if we can talk about the same things[personalities are similar]. The celebrities I admired when I waslittle were also very interesting.” Kim Bum expressed that thecelebrity he admired the most in his childhood was Kang Su Ji, who wasa 90’s pop star.
“I am not attracted to girls around my age, but I like girls whohave already started their careers. When I was little I was Kang Su Jinoona’s fan.”
Even though Kim Bum is a workaholic whohasn’t gotten much rest due to his busy schedule, there are people whogive him the energy and help he needs. The people who have given himthe most strength are his family. He is very proud of his 18 year oldsister, complimenting that she is very pretty. A while ago he gave hisparents a TV and a refrigerator, and a cell phone and electronicdictionary for his sister.
“The people who always worry about me are my parents, and thereforethey give me a lot of strength. My younger sister doesn’t think of meas a celebrity but a regular person, so she never brings anyone home[to see the celebrity] (laughs).”
Kim Bum talked about the management’s representative Lee Jin Seong, who supported him along with Yoo Ho Jeong and Kim Hyun Joong. “Becausethe representative hyung thinks a lot like me, when he picks newprojects for me to do, the projects really reflect what I wanted to doas well. It’s a blessing to work with someone like him. Thanks to him Iwas able to meet Choi Ji Woo, Shin Ae Ra, and Lee Jae Lyong. The F4members get together a lot. He asks for the F4’s schedules for me. Iknow almost all of them. A lot of good people always work together forme so I was able to get a lot of strength to withstand anything.” (Via SportsSeoul) Kang Su Ji:
Looks familiar doesn’t she?

Old videos after the cut
Here’s another one of him telling about the campaign:
He looks so handsome in these videos I died of a spazz attack. So YiJeong hair is back! I hope he doesn’t take on a new hairstyle for hisnew drama.
Kim Bum was at the 30th Blue Dragon FilmAwards today, and presented the ‘Best Cinematography’ award with Lee SiYoung. More images after the cut:
Too bad it wasn’t So Eun who presented theaward with him. But actually I would much rather see Bummie and So Eunreceiving an award. TOGETHER. Hopefully someday?
Here is a recent interview from Asia Economy, translated byDramabeans. Much thanks! You can see the original gorgeous picturesJavabeans posted here. I included another set for your viewing pleasure.
It’s been a little while since Dream faded from airwaves, but its star Kim Bum is getting ready to launch his new movie, Flight[비상], which will be released next week. Here’s a recent interview withthe actor talking about those two projects and his acting life after Boys Before Flowers:
“Dream’s failure became a chance for me to look back at myself”
Contrary to his “pretty boy” looks, Kim Bum is exceedingly daring and aggressive. Not toward people, but toward his projects.
Of the lead actors who starred in KBS’s popular Boys Before Flowers, nobody has worked as continuously as Kim Bum. He could have taken along break and worked on managing his image and popularity, but insteadhe raced on with the drama Dream and movie Flight (Bisang).
With the release of Flight upcoming (onDecember 10), Asia Economy magazine met with Kim Bum, who, withround-eyed wonder, revealed his boundless love for acting.
“When I’m curious about something, I can’t contain it. When I read asynopsis or a screenplay, there are times when I feel the characterfighting with me. I felt that with Lee Dong-chul in East of Eden, and also with Lee Jang-seok in Dream. It’s like the character is taunting me, ‘Try and see if you can do it.’ I hate to lose, so I have to act.”
In the movie Flight, the role Kim Bum plays is of ParkShi-bum, a man who gives up his dream of being a film actor for hisfirst love, and instead enters the lifestyle of a bar host. He had alot of attachment for this role, which he chose not one week after Boys Before Flowers had ended.
“I was drawn to Shi-bum’s character, who undergoes a dramatic changefrom the first part of the movie through the end. It’s a role thatallows me to show a lot of different emotions, so I considered it goodstudy. I prepared my next project really quickly after Boys Before Flowers, because when I find something to challenge me, I want to keep doing it.”
Kim introduced the character of Park Shi-bum by saying that if placed in that situation, his character in Unstoppable High Kickmight act in a similar way. He also said that it was not easy acting ashim, since it’s not a character we often come into contact with in reallife. He confessed that it was difficult to show him changingdramatically while maintaining a consistency to his character.
Kim said that he approached Flight with a spirit of learning. His explanation that “East of Eden and Boys Before Flowers were projects that I put a lot of study into” shows his studious attitude toward those projects. Dream and Flightcould have driven him to overworking, but he said with a laugh thatwith his personality, if he develops a desire to keep doing something,he isn’t interested in other things.
“I’m on leave from Joongang University. I got an academic warningfor taking the shortest terms, but still, I think it’s a good thing forme to meet others at school who are interested in the same work andtalk over our worries together. It’s just that it’s too bad that Ican’t go to school very often. But it’s rewarding that I’ve becomesomeone whom my friends in the acting department can come to foradvice. I haven’t had any regrets in my acting life.”
The drama Dream was pushed aside by its competition, Queen Seon-deok,recording low ratings lower than 10%. However, Kim Bum expressed hissatisfaction, saying, “The ratings weren’t high, but I was able to meetgood people and learn a lot.”
He says, “If Dream had followed the success of Boys Before Flowers,I wouldn’t have been able to think straight, but it gave me the chanceto look back at myself.” It’s a pretty grown-up sentiment. Having justpassed the age of twenty, Kim Bum continues on at high speed. His“flight” begins now.
