Taiwanese Navy Kang Ding Class Frigates

Taiwanese Navy operates 6 Kang Ding class stealth frigates (modified Lafayette class frigates). These ships are armed with the indigeneous HF-2 anti-ship missile with range 130 km and are also armed with Phalanx block 1A CIWS. They have significantly better ASW capability compared to Lafayette and have ATAS (V)2 active towed sonar arrays and S-70C ASW helicopters. Fully automated combat control (CIC) system is the Thales Tacticos










Taiwanese navy also has 4 Kidd class cruisers (called "destroyers" for political reasons), 7 Perry class frigates and are inducting 8 more subs. Taiwanese Kidd class cruisers have the New Threat Upgrade and are used as anti-air warfare ships.

Phalanx CIWS Block 1 A is great but not enough......better to have 1B

The Sea Chapparal SAM is not good enough.......the space for Sea Chapparal may be used for other vertical system preferably Aster or MICA.......

The Surveillance Radar is 2D radar ........better to have 3D radar....

Formidable Class is still the best in term of La Fayette class procurements.....

I believe the Kang Dings are the 'weakest' of the Lafayettes.
