JK's Digest No. 11 of March 2007 (37 of 2007) By Elections excitement over nihilism
POH AH TIAM is a great man.
From Bukit Sedanan to Machap with the incumbent Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam
it is sending a timely message of goodwill to the nation for he died so young
at his prime for a renal (reigning of BN) failure.
What is MaChap? Malaysian Chap (definitely a patriotic chap of Chinese descent) or Malaysia Chapter (Malaysia Agreement 1963) when the passing was on 15th March 2007.That was the eve of my lodging a long delayed issue "Security and Sovereignty" in a Police Report.15th March 2007 is also the first anniversary of the launch of the Signature Campaign of the Pacific - Patriotic Citizens Forum on Identity Cards for a Royal Commission of Inquiry. 15th March is also the World Consumer Rights Day. I would have lodged the Police Report on 15th March if not for the special event in DBKK in conjunction with the visit of students from the Dokkyo (Do KK You) University of Japan. His immortal name is definitely itself a message by the sound of it in whatever language and slang. The late Datuk Wira is immortal because of his contribution as in sung praises by others to Malacca and nation. Poh can mean 'nothing' or 'nihilism' and Ah can mean sigh as in AAHHH (painful) Tiam can mean safe, quiet or done. When the full name is narrated, it can simply mean "NOT WELL' or nothing is in order encumbered by the word "Mal- Acca"- a reminder of heartache for Sabah.Against the adverse backdrop of the layers and waves of crisis implicated developments in Malaysia especially in Sabah at all levels, there is an air of uneasiness in so many aspects and area. Yet the title of the article is "Machap a safe bet for BN" (see below). Did not you sense the message in Batu Talam (Double Face Stone) when EC behaved by double standards and yet proclaim righteousness? Now Poh Ah Tiam in MaChap is symbolic of the abuses and breaches of trust in the Malaysia Chapter as inscribed under the Malaysia Agreement when I lodged the historic Police Report to put all the loop holes (all not well) to be filled up by PEACE TREATIES with the bothersome neighbours. The Malaysia Agreement was null and void and the Malaysia Chapter is destroyed beyond recognition when it was a gentlemen agreement with the British to look after the then possessions of the British in Borneo given up for adoption in 1963. Can we now smell a rat in the nation celebrating 50 or 44 years when all is not well as in Poh Ah Tiam. So what do we do? what do we say? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. not never mind. Check our my demands from Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia in http://mega-icc-group-sabah-migs.blogspot.com/ About the by elections, it is all over for BN as a watershed for a total cleaning up with a new system.Joshua Kong (proponent of MIGS and WON)

ALOR GAJAH: Barisan Nasional (BN) is not expected to face a formidable task in defending the Machap state seat in a by-election on April 12 as it is a "safe" constituency, while the Opposition does not have many issues to raise. The good work done by the incumbent state assemblyman, the late Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam, had left an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of Machap residents.
Poh who served the constituency the last three terms since 1995, defeated Lim Chen Kuang from the DAP in the 2004 general election with a majority of 4,562 votes. The by-election is held following the death of Poh, 55, who was Melaka Housing, Local Government, Environment and Transportation Committee chairman, on March 15 due to renal failure.
The nomination day for the by-election is April 3. The development of Machap under BN leadership is another reason cited by political observers for the people to throw their support behind its candidate. Although the Opposition does not have any issue to exploit, the BN will not rest on its laurels nor downplay their onslaught, said Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.
He said Poh had developed the cottage industry in Machap, especially the cake and pastry enterprise where "biskut tongkat" (walking stick brand biscuit) was well known in Melaka. Mohd Ali, who is also the state BN chairman, said from the feedback gathered, the people would vote for BN. He said 1,000 members had been enlisted for the state BN election machinery which was set in motion yesterday and would be officially launched at the BN Machap operations room at Bukit Bulat, here, on Sunday. BN Machap by-election director, Datuk Hamdin Abdollah, said winning the seat was no longer an issue, but rather to make sure that the Opposition candidate lose badly or his deposit forfeited.
To achieve this, he said, BN would be holding a series of talks including a rally where Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would deliver his speech. Hamdin, who is the state Public Works and Public Utilities Committee chairman and Alor Gajah Umno division chief, said although it was a very demanding job, he felt that it could be achieved with the cooperation of every quarter.
The mainstay of the Machap economy is agriculture where vast areas are under oil palm and rubber and there are also three Felda schemes.

JK's Digest No. 14 of March 2007 (40 of 2007) Poh Ah Tiam in MaChap (Malaysia Chapter)

Abdul Rashid said the Machap by-election would be the last for Malacca before the next general election, scheduled for 2009. (see more story below)

So Poh Ah Tiam has to die so young and in office to convey a message to save the nation.

"Nihilism and all is not in order" according to the symbol of this name "Poh Ah Tiam".

Hopefully he as a prominent elected Assmeblyman in Malacca
has not die in vain as he has to die like that to be known wider.
Tun Tan Siew Sin did not have that kind of funeral.

Also the EC Chairman said "Regarding claims that the EC was not being transparent, he asked those not satisfied with the commission to bring the matter up in court."

I would like to ask EC Chairman to answer to the Police report lodged by me on the misconduct of the
General Elections in 2004.

BTW, MCA was founded by Tan Cheng Lok who could speak the Chinese language.

He said the last "allowed date" for a by-election differed among the states, as it depended on the day the state concerned held its first legislative assembly after the general election.
Malacca held its first state assembly meeting on April 17, 2004 and as such will mark its third year on April 16.
If any seat falls vacant after this date, there will not be any more polls until the general election is held.
However, added Abdul Rashid, the EC could allow a by-election after the expiry of the three-year deadline for special cases, such as when the Government has only a one seat majority over the Opposition or vice-versa.
"The same goes for Parliamentary seats," he said, adding that the first Dewan Rakyat sitting after the last general election was May 17, 2004.
Regarding claims that the EC was not being transparent, he asked those not satisfied with the commission to bring the matter up in court.
Asked if he had met Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi regarding giving more powers to the EC, he said:
"The EC functions within the framework of the law."

good news

JK's Digest No. 3 of April 2007 (62 of 2007) Signs of what to come?

IN MALAYSIA BOLEH

If you watch TV1 regional news at 5 p.m., the introduction would start with the plank-like image of Peninsula Malaysia unfolding on the right top downwards, then Sabah and Sarawak in similar feature would unfold from the bottom left upwards. This unusual presentation is not faulty at all but it gives the graphic impression that Sabah with the dog's head is seen to be biting up Peninsula Malaysia. NO offence. A beautiful creative artwork, I would say depicting the sign of the times to come. I believe this is a recent state-of-the-art piece introduced this year with recent update changes. "Funtastic" indeed.

Another piece is the TV giving the publicity on the MCA or BN Candidate for Machap by-elections. As soon as it was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of the selected candidate Lai Meng Chong (blame the bed or lie on bed), Lai came out to shake DPM's hand on the right side, then he went over to the left side of the DPM to shout BN with raised hands in comradeship. Very well indeed but is he left to be the victor? Is he the right candidate? Or is he to be left out in the race? Time will tell as he lies on a bed of roses of the late Poh Ah Tiam. So far so good.

I do print a fair bit from the Malaysiakini for those interesting articles. Whether I did them off line or online, I would not miss any part of the articles so far. But as I wanted to print this article on the MCA candidate, I wanted the map of Malacca with the Machap like a mushroom. Unfortunately, the right bottom tip of Malacca was missing in print of the three pages. But of the three pages, page 1 and 2 had a gap at the end of page 1. I would not know how to interprete this one.

So BN keep on campaigning so much even before the nomination on 3rd April, 2007. BN cannot be missing in action but in Machap, who can be flat down? Lets see on 12th April, 2007.

names ..... mean what?

JK's Digest No. 5 of April 2007 (64 of 2007) What are in the names?

If you know this story of a man known as Yap Pak Leong especially in the Chinese characters,
then you would agree to certain extend.

He was a giant killer in a General Election in 1976 and went on to be Berjaya Minister in Sabah.

The rest of the story of success and a wealthy man, you have to ask him.

So what are in these names Lai Meng Chong, Liou Chen Kuang, Ivon Toh (TV1 presenter in Machap).

To get a better interpretation of the names of the candidates, we need to see the Chinese characters.  Thank God PKR is not in it, otherwise it would remind us of the soiled beds (laimengchong) in court.

Meanwhile Poh Ah Tiam - Nothing is well could set the backdrop of the nation as he died so young just in time for the by-election before the statute bar.

While BN says it will win because there are no issues for DAP. Yes, BN would win for various reasons like no level playing field in the publicity sector, can find unlimited funding for a single seat, have the EC on its side (Even in Batu Talam EC did not act on the election offences of BN), and what else maybe gambling can divert votes to the winner and in this case the BN's Lai. So it is getting hotter still while Selangor encounters flash flood almost every day.

What are the bread and butter issues in the area? I believe all the basic essential items have increased in prices while incomes are likely to be stagnant. One thing is strange is that Machap is famous for this product - bread - as was highlighted by Ivon Toh. So is bread an issue for this election as bread prices have generally gone up. I think there is another issue of Tolls. Who won in this tolls tussle as all peaceful demonstration over tolls sharp rise had been blocked by the Police? It is strange that tolls may be a key issue as the presenter is Toh or Toll. Ivon Toh can be "I won Toll" or "I warn Tolls", and so lets see the result on 12th April, 2007. But please retain this capable presenter on TV1, whatever happens in this byelection.

There are already funny signs elsewhere and more of these would be coming in the nine days. Malacca reminds me of Mal-acca (Malaysian ACCA in crisis once). Machap reminds me of Malaysia Agreement or Malaysia Chapter.

swan songs for Malaysia in Malacca

JK's Digest No. 6 of April 2007 (65 of 2007) Are these swan songs for Malaysia in Malacca?

Two candidates for Machap (Malaysia Chapter or Malaysia Agreement) have songs (unusual) to go with them in their campaigns. (see the first article)
So whoever win, these are likely to be swan songs for the nation.

Candidates Sing To Gain Support In Machap April 04, 2007 10:21 AM

ALOR GAJAH, April 4 (Bernama) -- Both the Barisan Nasional (BN) and DAP candidates for the Machap state seat opened their campaigns in Machap Umbor here last night in a unique way -- by singing their respective theme songs.

Interestingly, they were campaigning just next to each other, less than 100m apart.

BN candidate Lai Meng Chong, 56, a local, has prepared a Hakka folk song entitled "Qian Ren Zhong Shu Hou Ren Liang", which means "contribution by the old people can be shared by the younger generation".

"It's a traditional song. Wherever I go, I will sing this song. I hope that through this song, we can stay united," said Lai, a Hakka, at a ceramah.

He said he would sing this song in his campaign rounds in the predominantly Chinese area -- Machap Umbor and Machap Baru -- as a subtle way to send his personal message to the voters.

Besides the personal theme song, MCA has also prepared a by-election Chinese theme song for Lai, with lyrics borrowed from a song sung by a famous Taiwanese singer, entitled "Nao Hai Yao Gen Hao" (Today is good but we want to be better for tomorrow).

Meanwhile, the DAP has a theme song entitled "Jian Chi", which means "Insist", for its candidate Liou Chen Kuang.

The song originated from a popular Hokkien drama series currently being aired by a satellite television station.

"This song augurs well for us as we are fighting for the Machap democracy. It shows our insistence on building a greater democracy for the rakyat," said Liou, 33, a Hainanese who hails from Melaka town.

Polling has been set for April 12.

The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam, 55, on March 15.

13 April, Fri

JK's Digest No. 14 of April 2007 (73 of 2007) Machap's BN candidate should be disqualified.

Lai Ming Chong is still retained as a political secretary to a Minister? (see below).

Did he resign his position as a political appointee in the Government? What did he write in his nomination form?

According to the Annual List of Federal Positions 2007, Lai抯 position in the government is paid a monthly salary of RM7,187.40. An official car and a driver is also provided to Lai.

How to win any election if the rules are bias in favour of the BN's candidate?

http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/65600 Apr 6, 07 5:26pm BN candidate accused of buying votes

Liou Chen Kuang, DAP抯 candidate for the Machap state seat by-election, has accused his opponent of being involved in money politics in the run up to the polls on April 12.

Liou also lodged a formal complaint to the Election Commission (EC), stating that Lai had breached the election laws by offering bribe to the voters.

His accusations against Lai stemmed from a report in the Sin Chew Daily yesterday that Lai had promised allocations between RM6,000 and RM13,000 for five families for housing repairs.

MCA抯 election machinery head Peng Fei Xun and Malacca Chief Minister抯 special officers known only as Mahadevan and Shahril were also with Lai in that campaigning round.

"It is clear that Lai had misused government funds and state machinery for his party and his own gain. This is an act of bribing the voters," said Liou in a statement today.

According to the Section 10(a) of the Election Offences Act 1954, it is an offence amounting to bribery to give, lend, offer or promise any money or valuable consideration to any elector or voter.

No authority

The punishment includes imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year and a fine not exceeding RM2000.

The offender will also be incapable of being elected at any election or if at that date he has been elected at any election, his seat shall be vacated from the date of such conviction.

Liou said Machap-born Lai had no authority to use government funds and machinery even if he is the political secretary to Human Resource Minister Dr Fong Chan Onn.

"Also, state officers that went with Lai on his rounds have no authority to promise such allocations," Liou, a 33-year-old businessman, asserted.

He added that every candidate must compete fairly regardless of the parties that they represent in elections without abusing the government machinery and funds.

"I urge the EC to take legal action against Lai and those involved to ensure the fairness and cleanliness of the coming by-election," he stated.
