KOTA KINABALU: A Russian tourist drowned while swimming at Karambunai near here Friday.

The man, Boris Puchkov, 59, had gone for a swim at about 10am and after a while, a lifeguard at a nearby resort noticed him struggling in the water.

The lifeguard rushed into the water, pulled Puchkov to the shore and administered first aid.

Puchkov was rushed to the Sabah Medical Centre and arrived there at about 11.10am. He was pronounced dead 30 minutes later. The body was later sent to the Queen Elizabeth hospital here for a post mortem.

SAY GOOD

JK's Digest No. 10 of January 2007 (10 of 2007) "SAY GOOD"
I was handed this note "SAY GOOD" at a recent dialogue.
Fair or not if we want to be deceived?

But what is happening in 2007 can be very good when the EYE on Malaysia was launched on 6th January, 2007 with plenty of water sports on water skiing and plenty of fire works.
All that was happening in the midst of the worst floods in the nation especially in Johore, and widespread in Sabah. Was Kudat and Kota Marudu ever flooded like this time? Water sports is symbolic of many people involved with water and the excessive fireworks further do damage to the fragile environment due to the excessive alien and water sucking oil palms in Johore and Sabah and the climatic change in the nation generally.

After what the Sultan of Johore said about the westerners and the white in the launch of the South Johore Economic Region, the curse of insult had hit the area badly and second wave within days.

Visit Malaysia Year 2007 or VMY2007 cannot be bad when RM44 billions of tourism money is going to be reaped in Malaysia. But how much money had been spent for the promotion of tourism locally and overseas with 44 offices in the last 20 years?

VMY2007 or not, are the people feeling very down with the general hikes in prices across the board with the 1.1.2007 especially in Sabah?

Can we observe all the good things in Sabah in early 2007?
We may have a new special Terminal 2 also good enough to be a restaurant for 2000 patrons but costing RM60 million completed in 7 months in time for 2007 to be officiated on 15th January 2007 by the Prime Minister. How much does that make out to be in per square feet for a one and a half storeyed building?

The word "terminal" has a special meaning for Sabah in 2007 after what had been going on in 2006 of much suffering all round in Sabah and Malaysia. I would have thought KKIA1 and KKIA2 would be more appropriate.

Nevermind, but in Sabah 2007 has been also special for foreigners who come as tourists when a few have already drown in shallow waters in Sabah. Bad or good omen it is up to you. There had been a few weird vehicle accidents too many in the first two weeks of Sabah - with one landed in the sea.
After a very hectic year of CASH in a programme much criticised over Pacific or Patriotic Citizens Forum on Identity Cards in 2006 started on 14th January, 2006 and the sudden GOOD appearance of the massive Bryde Whale (BW) of 20.6 meter in Lok Ukong (Go U KONG), near Pulau Gaya but now speculated that the baby whale calf also sold earlier in KK and the mother BW coming to be stranded or beached here in search of the offspring. So both died in Lok Ukong. It is likely the calf was 'destroyed' and 'sold' by the foreign fisherman while the big one has also died out of betrayal by 'foreigners' in Sabah. The whole episode was out in the sea when CASH was planning a sudden press conference in Mariner Club on 16th December, 2006 where the book "IC Projek" was just out from the oven and photographed and published in the Borneo Post the next day. The book which I dub as "WMD" is likely to destroy some groups as we can see what happened on 7th January, 2007.

Another strange incident is that some shop gave my wife two 'old fashion' Chinese type calendar where a daily page is removed (GOOD thing). My wife gave away one to a family friend (GOOD thing) and we keep the other one. But the page on 7th January 2007 was partially torn and creased and I was expecting something to happen that is symbolic of "mess" as broken? So on Sunday morning, the Daily Express had the only scoop of a news it had been avoiding to be in the limelight for 2006. The GOOD topic "Take me to Court" by Hassnar appeared on the FRONT page of Daily Express only. Indeed, that is the turning point of the IC Crisis, but yet to be out of the tunnel of deception and crimes against humanity.

Meanwhile, there is another episode of "WMD" going on in the Federal Capital of the shredding of the Mongolian. Who had got the C4? The mad story of RAHMA ....n must be more interesting now where n=end of a dynasty (die nasty) of BN=be end by C4 (die fire). A few people had also died mysteriously on the way of RAHMA ....n.

Will the country get out of the mess too many and not to be poorer?  GOOD experience of waste?

You all know what happened to the natural wealth of Sabah? The story of the Texas of Malaysia (Sabah) is also just like what is happening in Texas where poverty prevails. Who have robbed Sabah started in 1963? You can write your own story book.

On the story of books, the latest book by Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan (JK) on 'Justice for Sabah' is the subject of a Police Report by none other by another author Musli. Thank God, I have written more than 10 books, but so far no Police reports against my books had been lodged and instead I had lodged Police Reports and complaints against Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia in International Criminal Court worth RM120 billions based on my books.

So what are the next steps in the 'separation' of good over evil by saying good only?

second waves of flood

January 12, 2007 23:57 PM

Floods In Johor Worsen, Kota Tinggi Severely Inundated

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Johor has turned for the worse following continuous rain over the past few days, resulting in the evacuation of 18,753 victims to 107 relief centres and the town of Kota Tinggi severely inundated.

In less than a month, Kota Tinggi has been hit again by floods. Its major road arteries have again been cut off except for Jalan Johor Baharu-Sungai Sayong-Kota Tinggi.

Kota Tinggi District Information Officer Abdul Razak Mohammad said the water level of Sungai Johor, runs through the historic town, had breached the danger level and now was at 2.9 metres.

He said that continuous rain since Thursday, coupled with the high tide at 5.00pm Friday caused the river to overflow into Taman Kota Jaya there.

"So far, 15 relief centres have been opened to provide shelter for 1,999 victims," he said.

He also said that the road to Mersing could only be used by heavy vehicles as the Jalan Mersing-Sri Perani road was flooded under 0.5 metres of water.

As for other areas in JOHOR, Kluang recorded the highest number of evacuees at 6,482 people, followed by South Johor Baharu with 5,720 victims; North Johor Baharu (3,021), Batu Pahat (913), Segamat (465), Pontian (91) and Mersing (62).

The non-stop rain flooded several roads in downtown Johor Baharu between 0.3 to 0.5 metres of water making them passable to only heavy vehicles.

A Johor Education Department spokesman said that a total of 46 schools in the state had to be closed Friday due to the floods and that 31 of them had been converted into relief centres.

Johor Police Chief Datuk Hussin Ismail said that the flood operations room at the Plentong Police Station in Johor Baharu had to be shifted to the Johor Police headquarters because it became flooded in two metres of water.

So far no new casualties have been reported, keeping the death toll due floods in the state 15 killed since the disaster struck three weeks ago.

In BATU PAHAT, the water at the Semberong Dam, built in 1984, hit an unprecedented level of 12.92 metres as of late Friday evening, 0.92 metres higher than its danger level of 12 metres.

"The rise was sudden. Within 24 hours, the level had risen by almost one metre," one of the workers at the dam told Bernama.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said in a statement that the flood situation in the state would worsen further as the wet spell in Johor is expected to continue until Monday.

It said that moderate to heavy rain, triggered by the Northeast monsoon blowing across the South China Sea, will also hit Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Terengganu, parts of Sabah and Sarawak.

In SABAH, Kota Marudu district officer Matius Sator said that a total of 229 flood victims were still being sheltered at relief centres, of which 43 were transferred from Kg Marudu Laut to Sekolah Kebangsaan Ranau Thursday morning.

Kota Marudu floods claim first victim
01 January, 2007

Kota Marudu: A man who drowned after being swept away by strong currents in Kampung Tingkalanon, about 25km from here, Saturday night, became the first casualty of the floods in Kota Marudu.

Kota Marudu deputy OCPD Insp Musraime Stapah said the body of Jeneson Dukuan, 24, of Kampung Tingkalanon, was found near Sungai Tingkalanon, about 500m from the scene, at 7.30am Sunday.

He and a friend were bathing near the river when the incident occurred at about 8.30pm.

Earlier, 194 families from four villages in Kota Marudu were evacuated to relief centres after their houses were flooded following continuous rain which lasted till noon Sunday.

Kota Marudu Assistant District Officer En Hilde Kayau, who is also secretary of the district disaster relief committee, said the affected villages were Goruntong involving 64 families, Beliajung (73), Asin-asin (28) and Rasak (29).

A survey showed the flood waters in the affected areas were receding and most of the families had returned home except for the 64 families in Kampung Goruntong.

In MATUNGGONG, Mary Chin reports that Saturday's heavy rains in Kudat caused severe floods at Kg Andab Korina and neighbouring Kg Andab Jawa in Sikuati until Sunday morning.

Matunggong Assemblywoman Jornah Mozihim said 397 adults and children from 70 families in the two villages were evacuated to SK Lok Yuk, Sikuati. (Sikuati is a satellite town about 14 miles from Kudat town).

According to her, many homes built on stilts in the affected area were partially submerged. "What aggravated the situation was the breakdown of Celcom coverage network," she said.

On Saturday, Jornah, who is Assistant Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, toured the flood-stricken and low-lying areas in Matunggong.

She also visited Kg Langkon Lama in the Kota Marudu district, accompanied by the Matunggong People's Development Leader (PKR) Jealin Mozihim and Pemaju Mukim Jominit Kobuhi.

However, the village, which is within her constituency, was not affected. She supplied 15 cartons of bottled mineral water to the evacuees, in addition to 20 cartons contributed by Kapitan Cina Abu from Sikuati. Three hundred food packets were also distributed.

It is understood that the Kudat District Disaster Relief Management Committee had earlier sent food to the victims.

She said the situation had returned to normal by noon on Sunday, and the flood victims were allowed to go home.

Jornah praised the rescue team for their efficiency in evacuating the flood victims to safer ground. It comprised personnel from the Kudat Fire Services & Rescue Department (Bomba), Bomba Volunteers and Rela Kudat.

The team led by Philip Tangki from Bomba carried out evacuation work from 9.40am to 4.15pm on Saturday.

She noted that the Kudat District Disaster Relief Management Committee headed by the District Officer, Sebastian Lim had acted speedily in coping with the situation.

The Flood Operations Monitoring Room was activated in the wake of heavy rains since Thursday (Dec 28).

"On Saturday morning, immediate action was taken by the Public Works Department (JKR) to clear the landslide at Km31, Kg Tambuluran (along the Kudat-KK Road)," Jornah said.

She added that the Kg Andab Korina Village Security & Development Committee (JKKK) Chairman, identified as Asin had done a good job in co-ordinating rescue operations.

She advised the people to contact the Flood Operations Monitoring Room at 088-611301 should floods occur again

Family escapes injury as van ends in drain
01 January, 2007
Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a four-wheel-drive along the Lido-Penampang road late Saturday.

He was travelling from Lido towards Penampang when his motorcycle crashed into the side of the Nissan Frontier front passenger seat, which intended to go into the junction to Blue Seven at about 10.15pm.

The impact resulted in the 27-year-old being thrown some feet away. An ambulance which arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted by the traffic police rushed the victim to hospital, where he is currently warded.

The driver of the Nissan Frontier, in his 40s, and his male companion escaped unhurt. The case is still being investigated.

Meanmwhile, a family of three escaped serious injury when the van they were in skidded out off control and landed in a ditch along the road to the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) mosque in Likas early Sunday.

The 42-year-old driver of the van, his brother, 16, and father in-law, in his 70s, were heading home after performing Hari Raya prayer at the mosque when the incident happened at about 9.30am.

Fortunately, none of them were injured following the impact of the crash.

Floods claim another life
02 January, 2007
Sandakan: An 11-year-old boy drowned while bathing at the swollen Sungai Kebun Cina 3, off Mile 4 Jalan Utara, on Monday.

Shaharul Nizam went to the river with several friends who later alerted his parents after he went missing at noon.

He was believed to have been swept away by strong currents that resulted from heavy downpour since early morning.

Villagers recovered the body from underneath the bridge at about 2.30pm the same day.

On Monday, 24-year-old man died in Kota Marudu.

Recent heavy rainfall resulted in flash floods striking five kampungs in Kota Marudu from Dec. 27 to 30 from the swollen Bongonkarom River and water flowing downhill.

Other affected areas were Karitipan, Asin-Asin, Talantang and Marasinsim, in the Kota Marudu district, with water level rising three to four feet.

The floods damaged padi and vegetable plots and swept away several goats.

It was not immediately known how many houses were affected, but two were said to be tilting following the flood. Some 151 people are presently placed at the community hall in Kota Marudu township.

District Natural disaster relief chairman Matius Satur said about 70 people from 27 families were still taking shelter at the Village Development Cooperative premises in Timbang Batu.

They were evacuated from Kampung Goruntong after Sungai Kanarom overflowed and flooded the village, he said.

In Kudat, all 600 flood victims from Kampung Andab Korina and Kampung Andap Jawa in Sikuati, near here, who were evacuated to Sekolah Kebangsaan Lok Yuk last Saturday, have returned home.

Kudat OCPD DSP Razaruddin Husain said the number of people taking shelter at the relief centre had been declining as water levels in their areas had been receding since two days ago.

The balance of about 200 people had also gone back to their houses, he said.

However, they were advised to be on alert and ready for evacuation when the authorities ordered them to do so.

Korean woman drowns off Sapi
03 January, 2007
Kota Kinabalu: A 48-year-old Korean woman drowned while swimming off Pulau Sapi just before noon Tuesday.

Baek Mi Sook was taken out of the water by Sabah Parks' life guards but pronounced dead on arrival at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) later. Baek and seven to eight other members of her tour group were on tour at the island that day, which happened to be the last day of their stay in the State. They were due to fly back on the night flight. The group, which arrived on Dec. 30, had just returned to Kota Kinabalu from Mount Kinabalu the day before. Guided by a Korean tour operator, the group departed from the ferry terminal to Pulau Sapi at about 9am Tuesday. Sabah Parks life guard, Harry Rapiti, and his colleague Mark Julius, both 20, spotted Baek experiencing difficulty while swimming about 50 to 60 metres from the beach. Both swam to get her but by the time they reached her, her body was already under water.

Harry, who has been working as a life guard there for three years, said they gave her CPR, managed to pulled her to shore and helped her to a boat for the Sutera Harbour Resort jetty. The boat reached the marine the jetty at about 12.05pm and using a vehicle provided by the resort, she was rushed to the QEH. She arrived at the hospital at about 12.23pm but she was already dead. Baek was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident, according to Harry. When met, the group's Korean tour operator said he already warned all the group members to wear the life jacketsw that were provided to them. "Probably she did not wear because it was too tight," he said. On Nov. 20, an eight-year-old South Korean girl was stung to death by jelly fish at the same island.

Japanese drowns at same spot
04 January, 2007
Kota Kinabalu: An elderly Japanese woman became the third tourist to lose her life while swimming off Pulau Sapi, Wednesday, and the latest tragedy came within 24 hours of that of a 48-year-old South Korean woman.

Junko Noguchi, 63, arrived with her daughter for a four-day vacation in Sabah a day earlier. Wearing snorkelling gear, she was taken out of the water by Sabah Parks' lifeguards, one of whom was also involved in the effort to rescue Tuesday's Korean victim, Baek Mi Sook. Junko and her 36-year-old daughter, Kayo Noguoh, who were staying at a resort here, were supposed to stay until Friday before leaving on a night flight to Japan. Both were said to have arrived at the island at about 8.30am Wednesday and were among some 20 people picnicking at the island that morning. City Police Chief ACP Ku Chin Wah said Noguchi drowned at the same spot where Korean Baek also drowned on Tuesday, about 50-60 metres from the Pulau Sapi beach. One of the on-duty life guards, Harry Rapiti, said he saw Junko in snorkelling head gear and flippers in a one-metre deep water about 50 metres from the beach at about 10am. He said he then saw her struggling to reach one of the seven life rings provided by them within the bathing area. They immediately swam and brought her to shore where they gave CPR.

They then helped her onto a boat which sent her, accompanied by her daughter, to the Sutera Harbour jetty. They reached the jetty at 10.15am and using an ambulance that was waiting for them, reached the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) emergency department at 10.25am. Junko was pronounced dead at 11.10am. Kayo said although she is saddened by the incident, it would not stop her returning to Sabah. "Sabah is very beautiful," she said. Her factory manager father did not follow them for the holiday. On Nov 20 an eight-year-old South Korean girl was stung to death by jellyfish off Pulau Sapi.

10 tourists hurt in crash
05 January, 2007
Papar: Ten tourists, including a two-year-old girl, were injured when the 44-seater coach they were travelling in crashed into a ditch at Km6 Jalan Papar Lama-Kota Kinabalu, near Kg Nagapas, here, Thursday.

All but one of the seven Japanese and three Chinese nationals sustained minor injuries. A 44-year-old man identified as Li Fah Qiang, suffered serious neck injuries.

District Police Chief, DSP Charles Labung Lawai said the coach picked up the tourists from a resort in Tuaran and left for Weston in Beaufort at about 2.30pm. He said the driver, a 48-year-old Suluk, lost control of the bus after trying to overtake a pick-up in front and crashed it into the ditch on the right at about 3.30pm, ending up on its side.

The victims were warded at the district hospital where they were reported to be stable, he said, adding the oldest was a 62-year-old woman.

"We will record a statement soon from the driver who is in our custody at the moment," he said, adding the man tested negative to drugs.

DSP Charles said investigations have been framed under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.

The last few days have not been a good period for tourists in Sabah. The latest mishap is the third involving foreign visitors and comes in the wake of the drowning of Japanese Junko Noguchi, 63, while swimming off Pulau Sapi on Wednesday.

The previous day 48-year-old Baek Mi Sook, a Korean, also drowned at the same spot.

Colourful launch of VMY 2007 by PM
07 January, 2007
Kuala Lumpur: The Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2007 was officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, here, in an elaborate and colourful ceremony Saturday night.

The rain in the Federal capital failed to dampen the spirit of the more than 20,000 visitors who had flocked the Taman Tasik Titiwangsa to witness the glittering event.

The event was launched exactly at 10pm with a fireworks display which was greeted with loud cheers from the spectators who remained at the recreational park even when the rain turned heavier as soon as Abdullah completed the launch.

In his speech, the Prime Minister called on Malaysians to help make the programme a success by welcoming and treating the tourists in a friendly manner.

He also urged the people to promote the country to enable Malaysia to emerge as one of the top tourist destinations in the world.

Abdullah said Malaysia was prepared to hold the programme as it was confident that Malaysia had much attractions to offer the tourists.

"As proof, we have people of diverse ethnic groups who live happily and peacefully to bring progress to their country. These are assets that enrich our culture and are an attraction to the visitors," he said.

Abdullah said Malaysia was also fortunate because besides having beautiful natural environment, the country also had a good road and transportation network.

"We are proud when visitors have no difficulty in going to visit the scenic spots as there are good roads for a comfortable journey.

"We also have good land and air transport networks which give us an edge in wooing the tourists," he said.

Abdullah hoped that Malaysians would welcome and treat the tourists well as they were noted for their hospitality worldwide.

"The people of Malaysia are wellknown for their courtesy, hospitality and friendliness. Let us prove that this is our identity and that we are very proud of it," he said.

The kind hospitality accorded by Malaysians to the foreign tourists could become an attraction to them to continue to visit Malaysia and invest in this country.

"I believe many of them will want to invest and open up factories and so on, besides developing the tourism industry, this would also develop the country's economy," he said.

Abdullah said the country's tourism sector had received international recognition when more than 17 million tourists visited Malaysia last year and spent more than RM37 billion.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to try the "Ferris Wheel" which was opened for the first time in conjunction with the launch of the VMY 2007.

Besides the Ferris Wheel, VMY 2007 will also organise more than 240 events and activities in various locations throughout the country.- Bernama

'Take me to court...'
07 January, 2007
Kota Kinabalu: Controversial Sandakan businessman Hassnar Ebrahim who has openly declared that he was initially involved, together with several others, in "unwittingly helping thousands of foreigners obtain identity cards", said he has turned down police requests since last year to have his statement recorded for a reason. "I do want to do so. I am more willing to be arrested and charged in court so that the public will get to know the whole thing," he said, Saturday.

When told that he should cooperate with the police in getting to the bottom of the matter, he said:

"The police do not have to interview-record me because everything has already been published and they can investigate these, including what I had already declared to the court of law under oath. The evidence is all there." He said he has been repeatedly called by the State police to attend the interview-record sessions at the police station to facilitate investigations into the reports lodged by PBS Supreme Council member and former Senator Chong En Leong and Cash President Datuk Patrick Sindu, late last year.

Hassnar's disclosures to the court hearing the Likas polls petition of 2001 heard of certain Federal and State politicians and their links to illegal immigrants and identification documents.

His name also cropped up in three books - "IC Palsu Merampas Hak Anak Sabah" and "IC Projek " the latest of which, "Justice For Sabah" was penned by Sabah Keadilan Deputy head, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

Hassnar, 54, who showed up at the Daily Express office, Saturday, to officially make known his stand on the matter, said: "After the police reports lodged by Chong and Patrick on the fake IC problem in Sabah, a police officer from the City Police headquarters in Karamunsing repeatedly called me to come and have my statement recorded.

"I had met with this officer concerned twice and informed him (the officer) that I did not want to give a statement because previously I had been detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) in 1988 for two months which resulted in my business losing more than a million ringgit," he said. He said it would be better for the police to investigate what had already been published in the books and his disclosures in court if they were really serious in their investigations.

"I want the police to investigate seriously for the benefit of the rakyat, especially in Sabah and the nation," he said.

Beaufort: A Form Four student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Gadong, near here, had become the first victim of floods that hit the district since last Friday.

A spokesman of the Beaufort district flood operations room said Mohd Osman Sarin, 16, from Kg Gadong, died at about 5.30pm on Saturday.

He said Mohd Osman accidentally fell into a drain in his village before being washed away by currents into the swollen Padas River.

He was rescued several minutes later by residents of the village not far from where the incident happened but died shortly after admission to the Beaufort District Hospital.

Meanwhile, more than 200 people who were evacuated from several villages here were still at relief centres although the flood situation was reported to be improving.

This being that the water level at Sungai Padas, though receding, was still above the danger mark and fear of the water rising due to heavy rain in the upstream of the river.

The reading at 9am Sunday was 9m. The danger level is 8.7m.

Among villages inundated in floodwater are Kg Mejabai, Kg Selinsing, Kg Kebajang Laut, Kg Binunuk, Kg Luagan, Kg Bangkalalak, Kg Lumatai, Kg Lagu, Kg Lawa, Kg Lanting, Kg Kelabu, Kg Suasa, Kg Jabang, Melalugus, Kg Bakalau, Kg Tuhuk and Kg Jipaga.

Take up the challenge: Kurup
08 January, 2007
Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) President Tan Sri Joseph Kurup urged the police to take up the challenge by Hassnar Ebrahim relating to the police investigation into alleged rampant falsification of identity cards (ICs) in Sabah. "I urge the police to take up the challenge. This is a golden opportunity for the rakyat of Sabah to know who actually are behind this treacherous act," he said in a statement Sunday. He was referring to Saturday's statement by the 54-year-old controversial Sandakan businessman who has openly declared that he was initially involved, together with several others, in "unwittingly helping thousands of foreigners obtain identity cards".

Hassnar said he had turned down police requests since last year to have his statement recorded, following police reports lodged by a former Senator and the Consumer Association of Sabah and Labuan (Cash) relating to the issue. "I do not want to do so. I am more willing to be arrested and charged in court so that the public will get to know the whole thing," he said. Hassnar's disclosures to the court hearing the Likas election petition of 2001 heard of certain Federal and State politicians and their links to illegal immigrants and identification documents. His name also cropped up in three books - "IC Palsu Merampas Hak Anak Sabah" and "IC Projek" the latest of which, "Justice For Sabah" was penned by Sabah Keadilan Deputy head, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan. Kurup said Hassnar's disclosures to the court hearing the Likas election petition in 2001 that certain Federal and State politicians were linked to the whole episode should be identified, exposed and punished. "They are traitors蓆he issuance of MyKads to illegal immigrants are still continuing till today and seem to continue on and on," he said. "The issuance of MyKads to illegal immigrants could be done within a blink of the eye while genuine locals have to wait for years. If the authorities responsible do not act seriously, the locals will sooner or later lose their own identity and become the ruled minority," he added. Hassnar, who showed up at the Daily Express office, also said: "The police do not have to interview-record me because everything has already been published and they can investigate these, including what I had already declared to the court of law under oath. The evidence is all there."

He said the police had repeatedly called him to attend interview-record sessions to facilitate investigations into the reports lodged by PBS Supreme Council member Dr Chong En Leong and Cash President Datuk Patrick Sindu. Meanwhile, Patrick voiced his support for Hassnar and hoped the State Government will look into the matter seriously. "I, and the rakyat of Sabah, have great confidence in the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman that he will take immediate action on this, because all know this (falsification of ICs) is a really serious matter," he said, Sunday. He said he was also surprised that even though he had lodged a police report relating to the matter quite a long time ago, "nothing has really happened until now蓋hat is happening?

"This problem has been going on since long time ago and, until now, no concrete solution is in sight. I, therefore, hope the police will set up a special task force to specifically investigate to the root of this problem and bring those involved to justice."

Local is found hanged
09 January, 2007
Kota Kinabalu: A local Chinese was found hanged from the ceiling of his rented house at Mile 3, Jalan Likas, near Taman Antarabangsa, Likas, Monday.

Ho Kim Fook, 60 (pic), was found with a nylon string around his neck by his daugher in-law, Jumrah Tundong, 20, in the living room at about noon.

It was learnt that he suffered a stroke recently that left him semi-paralysed and had wanted to take his life last week.

The deceased's wife, Rokiah @ Rupinah Kindayak, 48, said she was sitting with him on the living room sofa shortly before noon when he asked her to cook a meal.

"I went to the kitchen to prepare the food. I wanted to take some meat from the refrigerator located in the living room and went back to the room but the door was locked," she said.

At that point, Jumrah was in a separate room putting her children aged two and seven-months to sleep when she heard a loud banging.

"I tried getting into the living room from my room but the door was locked. So I went outside and peeked through a window into the living room and to my horror saw my father in-law hanging from the ceiling

Tourists saved from watery death
10 January, 2007
Sandakan: A tour guide who went missing after a boat ferrying five Australian and two British tourists capsized at the Padas river estuary in Libaran about noon Tuesday was rescued at 7pm. One local woman on board later died.

A Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) source said Robert Ernest, 26, a local who worked for a tour agency here, was rescued by a search and rescue party made up of General Operations Force, Marine Police, Police Air Unit, MMEA and navy personnel with the cooperation of employees of a resort in Pulau Libaran and local villagers. The identity of the dead woman, said to be a tour agent's wife in her 40s, was not available. The identities of the nine other survivors are:

Rusell Holdsworth, 49, and Christina Grand, 58 (UK), Suzanne Custon, Ross Webber, Megan Johns, Kimberly Cinpoy and another unknown (all Australians), Empeng Chekoi, 57, local, helmsman and Wahid (only one name available), 27, local, tour agency staff.

The boat boarded by the tourists, a boatman, two male tour operator staff and the wife of the tour agent were heading to Pulau Libaran from Sungai Padas Jetty, near here, when it encountered difficulties due to four-metre waves and overturned at 12.10pm.

The five tourists, boatman and a staff were plucked from the sea by islanders of Tanjung Pisau while three others including two tourists and the woman were rescued off Pulau Libaran. However, the woman passed away on the island, despite being saved.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued a red alert Tuesday, the highest level warning, on the possibility of heavy rain and rough seas in Sabah. It warned against all marine activities including ferry and beach outings.

All of those saved were reported in stable condition but efforts to bring them back from Tanjung Pisau and Pulau Libaran, where they were temporarily placed could not be carried out because of dangerous sea conditions.

Researcher may be drowning victim No 5
11 January, 2007
Lahad Datu: A research assistant is feared to have been swept away by strong currents while crossing Sungai Bole in the Ulu Segama Forest Reserve, here, Tuesday.

Acting District Police Chief, ASP Mohamad Shaharul Osman said Koh Teik Chai, 25, from Sabak Bernam, Selangor, who works at the Danum Valley Field Research Centre, went missing while crossing the river at about 4pm.

"His colleague, Teo She De and Canadian researcher Gillian Sanderson are safe. Koh and Teo were accompanying the Canadian on a wildlife research in the forest reserve," he said.

He said the researchers crossed the river to return to the centre after completing their work for the day.

"Teo and Gillian were shocked when he suddenly disappeared and tried to find him for more than an hour but failed due to the strong current," he added.

Following the incident, Research Centre Project Head Wong Siew Tie lodged a police report at the district headquarters at about 7pm. Shaharul said a search and rescue operation to look for the researcher has been launched with the help of the Fire and Rescue Services Department, Civil Defence Department and the General Operation Force.

There have been four cases in the State of drowning in swollen rivers since Jan. 1
