CM Datuk Musa said he concurs with the recent police decision to use the Internal Security Act (ISA) against those caught letting off fish bombs but not against fishmongers who may be in possession of fish caught this way.

In this context, he believed that fish bombing activities in Sabah waters can be further reduced if the relevant enforcement personnel carry out constant checks wherever marine catch are sold to ensure that the latter are caught using approved and sustainable methods.

"We have from the beginning stated that fish bombing is not only dangerous but also endangers marine life," he said.

Former Sabah Commissioner of Police, Datuk Mangsor Ismail said police felt that charging the culprits in court was not solving the rampant fish bombing activities in the State as they go back to fish-bombing due to the lack of a deterrent.

However, under the ISA, one can be detained up to two years and upon the expiry can be detained further by the Internal Security Ministry.

Musa said the State has its own special committee chaired by Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat that has been tasked to reduce fish bombing activities in Sabah waters.

However, he said it was important that the enforcement work harder to ensure that fish sellers do not offer marine catch obtained by using bombs.

Rampant use of fish bombs in Sabah was evident following the incident on Aug 20 in Sandakan where three people were injured after a foreigner decided to settle a dispute with his wife by hurling a fishbomb into their rented house at Jambatan 2, Kampung Pukat in Tanah Merah.

There has also been concern over the use of nitrates and ammonia by the fishbombers, which are also substances on the anti-terrorism watch list.

So what is Musa Doing to stop fishmongers from buying bombed fish? afterall it was the illegal immigrants which chopped off the fingers of an immigration officer once upon a time on fish inspections. Why dont we just decapitate the trade and business of it all... . this article i read is contradictory in a sense that he wants to use the ISA against fish bombers.. well... ( applause), but what about the fishmongers?  we let them free? afterall they are the ones who are encouraging the trade...but how are we going to discourage it? any ideas other than tighter enforcement?

And then theres the issue of identification ... if the fish bombers were filipino and not Sabahan, can we still detain him/her under ISA?

Cutting off the supply seems to be the logic here.
