Gibernau rejects Kawasaki to quit from BBC.co.uk

Spain's Sete Gibernau has announced his retirement from MotoGP at the age of 33 after being dropped by Ducati next season in favour of Casey Stoner.

Gibernau, who finished runner-up to Valentino Rossi in 2003 and 2004, said he had decided to quit despite being offered a ride with Kawasaki next year.

"It has been an incredible experience and has provided with me some unforgettable moments," he said.

His 2006 chances never recovered from a serious crash in Catalunya in June.

Gibernau said he would not feel right if he carried on racing after this season.

"If I had accepted the offers to continue just for the sake of carrying on then it wouldn't have made me happy especially if it was just for money," he said.

"Now I've got other projects to concentrate on."

In his top-class career, Gibernau raced for Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda and Ducati, winning his first Grand Prix in the last race of the 2001 season at Valencia.

In 2003, he claimed four wins and six other podium finishes to finish with the highest points total of any runner-up in the history of the top class.

But in recent years he slipped off the pace, only coming seventh in 2005 after a series of crashes and retirements, after which he left Honda for Ducati.

At Catalunya, he crashed and broke his hand and collarbone, injuries which kept him out of seven races.

He failed to get on the podium during the campaign and ended in 13th place in the championship.

the guys are in town...

Sepang MotoGP test times - Wednesday (15/11/06. from crashnet.com

Leading MotoGP test times from day one of the Sepang test, which is being attended by Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki teams.

Testing on Wednesday was severely interrupted by torrential rain, which fell on the Malaysian circuit from 1pm, flooding parts of the track and bringing about scenes reminiscent of September's grand prix, when a similar storm led to the cancellation of Qualifying.

Ducati has chosen not to attend the test, while Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa and Gresini Honda's Marco Melandri are both absent after recent arm surgery. Seven-times world champion Valentino Rossi is also not present - as he is driving in this weekend's New Zealand round of the World Rally Championship.

Testing continues on Thursday.

揑a hanya satu pembaziran jika hanya menganjurkan satu perlumbaan dan itu saja.

Fazrul sasar rampas gelaran

揝udah tentu saya menghormatinya kerana dia (Suhadi) banyak mengajar mengenai teknik mengendali jentera perlumbaan, malah berpengalaman selaku juara motorcross terbuka antarabangsa dan juara bertahan Expert 2006.

Motor Racing: Cash-strapped Karamjit back on winning trail
By LIM TEIK HUAT

PETALING JAYA: Former production car world rally champion Karamjit Singh made a successful return to the Felda AAM Malaysian Rally Championships by winning the opening round in Bahau yesterday.

Despite using an older version of the Mitsubishi rally car to compete, Karamjit proved his worth as the top Malaysian rally driver yet again by taking a 12-second victory in the two-leg event.

Karamjit and co-driver Jagdev Singh in a Mistubishi Evo 3 grabbed victory in 2'27:00. Japan's Takeshi Azuma and Masako Sakane in a Subaru Impreza finished second in 2'39:02. Malaysians Rozali Abdullah and Mohamad Diazreen Nor in a Proton Satria finished third in 2'42:39.

Karamjit had a nine-second lead after the first day of eight special stages on Saturday. The second leg yesterday comprised six special stages.

The eight-time national champion was pleased to have won the race.

揑 only managed to secure sponsorship just before the entry closed and had to use my old car to compete,
