I have always been interested in the Brahmos just as I was interested in the Alfa. But I do think that before we start thinking of equipping our ships with these missiles, we need to ask ourselves several questions:

1) We all remember what happened when the TUDM bought the A-4 Skyhawks and the MiG-29's. What is the maintenance support which is available for this missile?

2) How good is this missile in the face of modern jamming? Is it resistant to counter-measures? Can it evade CIWS? Does it have all weather capability? If it uses GPS guidance, how good is the Satellite coverage? Navstar or GLOSNASS? It has an impressive performance in tests and on paper. But I think that we should perform a thorough evaluation before committing ourselves.

3) Are there any upgrades available in the future? One of the advantages of missiles such as Exocet and Harpoon is that there is continuous development and R & D available. Is there something similar for the Brahmos? I don't see the point of purchasing a missile if it is going to be obsolete in just a few years. Malaysia should be buying systems that are going to be relevant for the next 10-15 years.

4) TLDM currently operates these missiles: Exocet, Sea Skua, Seawolf, OtomatOtomat Mark 2/Teseo and Aspide. Are ther going to be any logistical difficulties in adding another missile to our stock? Is there any benefit in just committing to one manufacturer when it comes to our anti-ship and SAM missiles? Are the BRAHMOS missiles going to be purchased in quantities which will give TLDM some real war-winning capability?

I think it is important to look an entire package and consider the combat system at all angles b4 purchasing.

Saya setuju. Tapi masalahnya orang politik bukan fikir macam itu. Naik beli SU-30MKM pun macam nak kiamat dunia.

IIRC the Su-30 package includes the Kh-31 in its ASM and AAEW versions...
