It is true that the fighting ability of the GIs are fantastic. Only 2500 died in 3 years, thats less than even training deaths in the US military within the same period.
All these came from a highly motoivated volunteer force and trained vigorously for the job. |

i'm fortunate to be in the 2G SAF (late 80's early 90's), i dont have to iron or starch my no4 uniform, no need to polish boots like mirror, very little marching instead more combat training, no ragging by instructor and officer because it was made illegal by the SAF, food is also better, instead of bread/butter and kaya with hard boiled egg, we have lontong, mee rebus ect. ect. for breakfast, lunch are catered food, even night snack got curry puff and cake and those in 3G SAF (mid 90's & present) is even luckier....only the 1G SAF is worst off (after independence till early 80's) that is during our fathers time, everything have to be starch, everything have to be polished, marching all the time, punishment for the slightest mistake is common, in the end very little combat training..... |
