Dr M: Who Critics of 3rd national car "know nothing"

SEPANG: Dr Mahathir Mohamad today hit out at critics of the proposed third national car, saying they “knew nothing”.

The prime minister said that there was a negative perception surrounding Malaysian-made cars, with some quarters urging consumers to purchase a foreign-made vehicle instead.

And this perception has led to scepticism about the third national car.

“They say don’t go producing a third national car, because it is bad, that it is a waste of money.

“You see, you think they know the technology involved here. You see the engine just now?,” referring to the NIO EP9 — the world’s fastest electric car — in which he took a drive.

“You know nothing about automotive engineering.

“This is why we are introducing the third national car, to learn. Please learn to learn,” he told reporters after the Asia GT Festival at the Sepang International Circuit.

Also present was Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman.

Mahathir went on to cite China’s success in the automobile industry.

“Look at the progress China has made in a very short while because they were open about venturing into the automotive business.”

Putrajaya had last year said it would launch the third national car project by 2020, with Mahathir saying it would be implemented by the private sector.

He had expressed his ambition to start a new national car project in June, saying Proton, which he founded in 1983, was no longer a national car.

Mahathir earlier flagged off a race at the event, driving a lap around the circuit in the NIO EP9.

“It was very thrilling. My heart rate went up to 140,” he quipped.

I think as pm dia beri idea... yg pelaksana pihak2 tertentu.. kena buat dgn betul lah.. setiap benda nak dia handle from 0 susah lah.. apa guna berjuta2 bijak pandai dlm msia if tak contribute for the country.

Kompeni otomotif baukari Tau apa utk develop kereta ketiga bila dipadankan dgn silterra me like khazanah?


Dan dah kalau Kita 34 tahun Ada proton Dan masih know nothing about automotive, well Malaysians are bloody stupid innit? So what the fuck is the government putting more good money into a lost cause?

Sebab bila x reti monitar... Tu yg kena tanggung biawak hidup.. Tiap2 tahun kena sumbat 1b utk hidup

Lg malang..hampir semua idea perniagaan zaman dia gagal...

-----------entahlah. saya dah lama tak pakai kereta nasenel. tapi nampak poton x70 cantik ---- harga pun murah-- kereta2 perodua puncantik2 -- terutama myvi -- nak buat apa kereta ke3?

entahlah. kita tak pandai. gaji pun sikit. malas nak pikir.

lepas tu paksa rakyat beli.
nak eksport, tak laku di luar negara. bab safety pun tak lepas.

masa zaman 80/90an takde kereta china pun, proton tak boleh jual.
sekarang boleh lawan ka kereta korea & china utk market luar?
i dun think so.
rakyat jugak yang di paksa utk buat hutang 9 tahun.

tak payah la menghabis kan duit negara la atok.
suruh jer kawan kroni atok bukak company kereta sendiri.
