news: movie
Popular young actor Fujiwara Tatsuya (25) is to take on the persona of a Japanese movie legend. In the 'hard boiled' thriller "Chameleon" the star of the "Battle Royale" and "Death Note" movies will play a role originally written for the late Matsuda Yusaku (1950-89) in 1978. The project has finally been realized by the original scriptwriter Maruyama Shouichi (59), who worked with Matsuda on several projects, and producer Kurosawa Mitsuru, the man who shaped Matsuda's career and is executive producer for the movie. Directed by Sakamoto Junji (50), the movie started filming at the end of November. Fujiwara impressed the director with his forthright acting style and willingness to take physical risks. In one scene, he barreled down a flight of steps on a motorbike and completed filming covered in bruises. The movie is scheduled to open in theaters next summer, and distributor Toei is planning on turning the movie into a series.

GLAY's TERU hits cyclist while driving
Thu, December 27, 2007 (3:54pm EST)
TERU, the vocalist of rock band GLAY, injured a bicyclist earlier this month while driving in the Meguro ward of Tokyo.
On the morning of December 7, TERU was making a right turn at an intersection when his vehicle came in contact with a bicycle coming from the right. Because the intersection had no traffic signal and involved only one-way streets, TERU said he had only checked for cars coming from the left. The cyclist, a woman in her 20s, fell down and injured her left knee.
TERU's wife, Ami Onuki of Puffy, was also in the car.
Meguro police said that they plan to send the case to prosecutors, charging TERU with negligent driving resulting in injury.

In a recent article on JapanToday.com, writer Josie McCoy recently interviewed the Japanese band Go!Go!7188.
In an excerpt from the interview, McCoy writes, 揑t抯 easy to go over the top when talking about GO!GO!7188. You could blame those exclamation marks, or then again, it could be the band抯 utterly unique sound and the breathtaking voice of guitarist/vocalist Yumi Nakashima.
