BoA sings first theme song for Japanese film
Sun, November 18, 2007 (6:01pm EST)
Korean singer BoA is singing the theme song for the movie "Inu to Watashi no 10 no Yakusoku," it was revealed on Sunday. She previously provided "KEY OF HEART" for the Japanese dub of "Over the Hedge" (and also served as a voice actress for the film), but this is her first time doing the theme for a Japanese film.
The film, directed by Katsuhide Motoki and starring Rena Tanaka, is a story about a girl's connection with her golden retriever. It is inspired by the anonymously-authored "The Ten Commandments of Dog Ownership," a list of rules of pet ownership as told from the dog's perspective. A book version of the film's script was released at the end of July and has sold more than 230,000 copies so far.
BoA is known as a dog lover, and she currently owns a poodle named Paama. She reportedly was strongly moved by the movie's script, which resulted in the song "be with you," though the lyrics also apply to human relationships.
No release date has been set for the single yet, but the movie opens on March 15.

Yasuda Shota (23) of the popular group Kanjani8 will perform a solo show in February of 2008 in Tokyo and Osaka called "818 (Hachi Ichi Hachi)", sources said on the 21st.
The scene will be on the streets, and Yasuda will perform 4 characters in total: 3 street performers and a man trying to search for his dream.
Yasuda is also involved in creating the plot. The theme song for the play will be written and composed by Yasuda himself. Aside from songs and dances, he is thinking of surprising "adlib performances" which are so unique to live shows. He will be attractive in many different ways.
Yasuda said, "I think this play is something I want to create with the audience. I want to make every show different and unique. I don't want it to be self-satisfactory; I want to have communication with the audience. I want people to know that 'this' is what Yasuda Shota is like."
The title of the stage play "818" comes from his birth time, which was 8:18 pm. He cannot wait until the shows start: "I also want it to mean that it's a new start for me in the year of 2008. This is something I haven't experienced before, so I am very very excited!"

Kazuo Umezu's "Orochi" gets film
Mon, November 19, 2007 (6:16pm EST)
"Orochi," a classic mystery/horror manga by the legendary Kazuo Umezu, is being turned into a movie. The project is being produced by Toei, with Norio Tsuruta ("Dream Cruise", "Ring 0: Birthday") directing and Hiroshi Takahashi ("Ring" series) providing the screenplay. Yoshino Kimura will star, playing two separate roles.
The original manga series ran in Shonen Sunday from 1969 to 1970. The story revolves around two sisters, the older Kazusa (played by Kimura) and the younger Lisa (Noriko Nakagoshi). Lisa constantly lives in the shadow of her seemingly perfect sister, resulting in feelings of jealousy and vengeance. A tragic accident sets the action in motion and brings into the story a mysterious young girl named Orochi (Mitsuki Tanimura), who partly functions as the tale's narrator.
Kimura has also been cast as the sisters' mother. Taro Yamamoto plays Kazusa's boyfriend, while Kyusaku Shimada plays a butler in the sisters' mansion.
Filming has been scheduled for about two months starting on the 22nd. The movie is expected to open next fall.

Ayu's next single goes digital only
Tue, November 20, 2007 (4:00am EST)
Earlier this month, Avex announced that Ayumi Hamasaki's next single, "Together When...," will be a digital release only. While the full song officially goes on sale on December 5, shortened ringtone versions will be available starting this Wednesday.
While digital exclusives are nothing new in the Japanese music industry, they generally do not receive much promotional effort. "Together When..." is different in that the song is still getting a PV and a jacket cover, and it will also be performed on television music shows.
Avex cited the decline in CD sales and increase in digital sales as the main factor behind the decision, calling the move an experiment that may affect future releases if the single is successful.

Fumido PV takes a year to produce
Tue, November 20, 2007 (4:29am EST)
The band Fumido is close to completing an unprecedented project: the music video for their new single, "Merry Christmas," is being shot over the course of an entire year, featuring images of a married couple in slideshow form.
The song was actually completed in November 2006 and was originally planned to go on sale for last year's Christmas season. After the idea for the video emerged, the single was postponed to this year, and it has been scheduled for a December 5 release.
Tens of couples applied for the project through the Fumido website last year. A newlywed couple, aged 30 and 29, in the Kanto area was selected. They were first photographed on Christmas Eve and since then, they have taken pictures of themselves daily in their home. As of October 26, more than 7,400 pictures had been taken. The photographs also record the progress of the wife's pregnancy, which produced a daughter for the family in July.
An early version of the PV will be available on the 28th through Fumido's website, which currently hosts a trailer for the video. A final version of the PV is expected to be revealed on Christmas day.

"Snakes and Earrings" lead revealed
Tue, November 20, 2007 (2:51pm EST)
Filming for Yukio Ninagawa's "Hebi ni Piasu" (also known as "Snakes and Earrings") began on Monday. As announced in September, the movie is based on Hitomi Kanehara's award-winning, international best-seller of the same name.
The film will star 19-year-old Yuriko Yo#aka ("Tenten," "Kayokyoku dayo, Jinsei wa"), who barely made her acting debut in 2006. This role may be a breakthrough for her, given Ninagawa's reputation, the likelihood of international release, and the mature themes involved. Ninagawa plans to keep the movie faithful to the book, which includes multiple depictions of violence and sex. In fact, one of the conditions for the lead actress is the inclusion of a fully nude scene.
Kengo Kora ("Sad Vacation," "Tobo Kusotawake") will play Ama, the protagonist's boyfriend. ARATA ("Ping Pong," "Yuheisha Terrorist") will play the sadistic tattoo artist Shiba.
"Snakes and Earrings" opens in 2008.
