3. Ningyo
This Japanese creature has golden scales, a human face, the mouth of a monkey, and a voice that sounds like a flute. Sometimes it even has horns and fangs. Eating one will give you a longer life, though catching one is said to bring much misfortune. If one washes ashore it is believed that war will follow.
Another story about a ningyo is about an 800-year-old Buddhist priestess named Yao Bikuni.
A fisherman caught her and tried serving her to his friends saying it was just fish. They realized the deceit and everyone wrapped up their piece of "fish" to throw out later instead of eating it.
One man got too drunk and gave it to his daughter when he returned home. She lived until she was 800 years old.

2. Mami Wata
Mami Wata, also known as Maame Wata or Mamba Munti, is a water spirit found in many African myths with an old, unknown origin.
She has a fish-tail and the upper body of a beautiful, dark woman with long hair. However she can shape-shift into other forms; sometimes taking on a snake tail but keeping her upper body and sometimes taking on a complete animal or human form.
However, she also has a vicious streak and will use men for her sexual satisfaction. She also punishes women who aren't humble about their beauty by making them childless or unable to find a husband.

1. Merrows & Mermen
In Ireland, they have tales of merrows, meaning sea-maids, and mermen. The men are described as extremely ugly as they have scales, pig-like features, and long, pointed teeth.
The women look more like humans. The only difference is that they have flat feet and webbed fingers.
Stories say that the men are not seen very often. Instead, it's the women who interact with humans.
The women are highly beautiful and tend to be rich from stealing gold from sunken ships.
Some say that in order to live underwater they have a red cap that allows them to breathe. In northern regions, they are said to have sealskin coats that let them live underwater like a seal.
Due to this, human men will sometimes steal their clothing and hide it. Without the cap or coat, the merrows can't return to the sea. Instead they have to stay on land and they often marry the man who stole their clothing. Usually they find it again and go back to the ocean. They then leave behind their husband and any children they may have had.
