Park Shin-hye crossdresses for You're Beautiful

Wejust saw Jang Geun-seok’s new look for the upcoming drama You’reBeautiful, and now we get a look at Park Shin-hye’s transformation as agirl crossdressing as a boy to be a part of an idol group called“A.N.JELL,” whose leader is Jang Geun-seok.
(Just for therecord, the “namjang” trend — women dressing as men — is a kdramastaple that tends to be overused, but it’s another one I don’t mind.Recent entries into the genre have shown it can be done well, such asMoon Geun-young in Painter of the Wind and Yoon Eun-hye in CoffeePrince. And by all accounts, it seems Lee Yo-won’s namjang stint inQueen Seon-deok was better received than her princess portrayal.)
Inthe drama, Park Shin-hye plays fraternal twins, of whom the boy half isa member in an idol group. However, after he is injured in an accidentand cannot participate in overseas events, his sister takes his place.
ParkShin-hye said, “In previous dramas, I had some difficulty because I hadto play several years older than my real age, with characters 23 or 24years old. [Park is 19.] This time, I’m playing my age and although therole is a male character, I’m approaching it comfortably.”
Personally,I don’t really think Park Shin-hye pulls off the boy look so well inthese stills — she looks just the same as she did in her drama RadishKimchi (where she played a female). But I’ve enjoyed all of the Hongsisters dramas, and a tight comic story is the most important part of atrendy drama, more so than name casting or high budgets, so I’m takingan optimistic approach to this.
(Side note: It’s interesting tocontemplate that Jang Geun-seok and Park Shin-hye were strongcontenders for the Gu Jun-pyo and Geum Jan-di roles in Boys BeforeFlowers. While I think Lee Min-ho played Jun-pyo as well as he could beplayed, I’ve always wondered what Jan-di would have been like with thespunkier Park Shin-hye playing her.)
You’re Beautiful premieres on SBS on October 7.

[News] 090916 FT Island’s Lee Hongki, Cross-Generation Friendship With Choi Ran
FT Island’s Lee Hongki displays his unusual friendship with actress, Choi Ran.
LeeHongki is making his drama comeback after a period of 5 years, in theSBS Wed-Thu drama “You’re Beautiful“, which will start airing on 7thOctober. Lee Hongki said that, he has a cross-generation friendshipwith actress, Choi Ran, who is playing the role of his mother in theupcoming drama.
After filming the drama “Freezing Point” in2004, Lee Hongki became a singer. It has been 5 years till now. ChoiRan acted as his mother in “Freezing Point” and they are comingtogether again to work for the new drama. They have also been keepingin touch with each other all this while.
In actual fact, LeeHongki who’s born in 1990 and Choi Ran who’s born in 1960 have an agegap of 30 years. If the period of 30 years is considered as ageneration, then the friendship between the both of them is a“cross-generation” one.
Lee Hongki, who was still in middleschool during the filming of “Freezing Point“, often calls Choi Ran asmother and regards her as one too. Choi Ran also treats Lee Hongkiwarm-heartedly like a son.
“I was very happy to see her again,”Lee Hongki expressed, “Though it’s a pity that we do not have anyscenes together in the earlier part of the drama, she still calls togive me encouragement.”
The new SBS Wed-Thu drama “You’reBeautiful” talks about the growth of a teenage band and the lovebetween the members, with Lee Hongki playing the role of “Jeremy“.“You’re Beautiful” will start airing on 7th October, taking over theslot of “Swallow The Sun“.
