On the sales charts this week, singer Ayumi Hamasaki accomplished a fairly rare feat: she was at #1 on both the album and single rankings. Her new album "Love songs" sold more than 180,000 copies, while her collaborative single with AAA's Naoya Urata, "Dream ON" sold over 40,000 copies.
This is only the 11th time that an artist has simultaneously topped the album and single charts. Hamasaki did it twice before in October 2000 and October 2001. The last artist to do it was NEWS in November 2007.
Because this week's rankings are actually counted as the charts for January 3, 2011, Hamasaki has now had a #1 album in 13 consecutive years, from 1999 to 2011. This extends her record of "most consecutive years with a number-one album starting with a first album"; the second most is Akina Nakamori, who achieved a streak of 8 years from 1982 to 1989.
At #2 on the album charts this week was Korean group SNSD (Shoujo Jidai), selling close to 61,000 copies of their Korean-language mini-album "HOOT." Although their recent single "Gee" was also ranked #2, this is the group's first album to make the top ten.
The only other new release in the top ten was a Vocaloid album by mothy (also known as Akuno-P).
As already mentioned, Naoya Urata's "Dream ON" led the single charts. A few other new singles entered the top ten: Daisuke Ono (#5), THE RICECOOKERS (#6), GIRL NEXT DOOR (#7), and ZE:A (#9).
On the overall DVD charts, NEWS took the top spot with 126,000 units sold of their "NEWS DOME PARTY 2010 LIVE! LIVE! LIVE! DVD!" This is their 5th consecutive release to reach #1 in just the music DVD category.
Meanwhile, Nana Mizuki secured the #1 and #2 spots in the music category of the Blu-ray sales rankings. Her "NANA MIZUKI LIVE GAMES x ACADEMY-BLUE-" and "NANA MIZUKI LIVE GAMES x ACADEMY-RED-" sold 16,000 and 15,000 copies, respectively.
10th a-nation tour includes AKB48 alongside top Avex artists
Avex held a press conference today to announce details for this year’s a-nation tour, which will proceed despite the effects of the earthquake in the Tohoku region. This will be the 10th time that the annual tour has been held, and its full name has been set as “a-nation 10th Anniversary for Life: Charge & Go! Weider in Jelly.”
While the expected Avex artists such as Hamasaki Ayumi and Koda Kumi are participating, this year’s lineup also includes idol group AKB48 for the first time. While AKB48 is not signed under Avex, their recently formed sub-unit DiVA is making its debut under Avex later this month.

Tickets will be sold for 7,900 yen, with 100 yen of the price being donated to charity. In consideration of the power shortages caused by the earthquake and tsunami, Avex will be preparing power supply trucks at the venues. The company also plans to make the Tokyo concert on August 28 available for “free public viewing” at Ito Yokado shops in the tsunami-stricken areas.
In addition, Avex will sell goods bearing the logo “for Life,” and auction off items like the artists’ stage outfits. Part of the proceeds will be donated to charity.

AAA’s Nishijima Takahiro to voice act for the first time through “ONE PIECE”
On July 12th, it was revealed that Nishijima Takahiro of the group AAA will be challenging voice-acting for the very first time through the popular anime, “ONE PIECE“.
Nishijima – who is a self-professed fan of the series himself – participated enthusiastically in an open recording of the special episode “ONE PIECE Episode of Nami Koukaishi no Namida to Nakama no Kizuna” on the 12th. “I’d love to do it again,” he said of the experience. This 2-hour special episode will be aired on August 25th, and AAA will be providing the theme song “We Are!” (Originally Kitadani Hiroshi’s song) which is the cover of the very first opening theme song of “ONE PIECE” anime. AAA version of “We Are!” will also be included in the group’s upcoming new album (scheduled for a release on August 22nd) as a bonus track.
On August 23rd, AAA held a release event for their latest album, “777 ~TRIPLE SEVEN~“, at Lalaport Toyosu in Tokyo.
During this event, the group announced that they would be holding an event in Taiwan on October 5th. Ever since starring in a Taiwanese drama back in 2008, member Ito Chiaki has been longing to hold a concert in Taiwan. “I’m very happy to finally make it come true! I heard that we’ve been gaining fans in Taiwan, so I’m fired up,” she expressed.
Atae Shinjiro also commented, “The 7 of us all have an interest in concerts overseas. First, we will go to Asia and have many people listen to us. We want to become an artist that many people will come to look at.”
In association with the album’s title, AAA invited 777 people to the release event. The event featured a surprise fireworks show, and the members got to enjoy a summer night with their fans.
AAA to simultaneously release a new single + live DVD/Blu-ray
AAA will simultaneously release their 23rd single (currently untitled) and a live DVD/Blu-ray “AAA TOUR 2012 -777- TRIPLE SEVEN“ on January 23rd.
The details on AAA’s first single of 2013 hasn’t been revealed at this time, but it’s known that it will be released in both limited and regular editions. Limited edition will come with a DVD containing the video clip and making footage for the title track.
Meanwhile, the live DVD/Blu-ray will feature the Yokohama Arena concert of AAA’s nationwide tour, ‘AAA TOUR 2012 -777- TRIPLE SEVEN‘. Both the DVD and Blu-ray will come with two discs. Along with live footage, it will include scenes of the members backstage.
