JapanTimes spotlights Morning Musume with interview (in English)

In a recent article/interview on JapanTimes, the interview is with Morning Musume leader Ai Takashi, sub-leader Risa Niigaki and one of the Chinese members of the group Linlin (along with manager Kouichi Nishikata).
Here is an excerpt from Robert Michael Poole’s article in regards to Morning Musume’s expansion to China and the US.
Morning Musume’s move into China has been seen as the next logical step for the group. However, all has not gone according to plan.
“The attempt to launch Morning Musume into China hasn’t gone very well,” admits Nishikata. “CDs don’t sell well, because they are soon pirated. Two years ago, when Lin Lin and Jun Jun (22) joined, we tried to push them hard to China, but it didn’t go so well. We are still trying to find a way.”
The future of succeeding generations of Morning Musume is clearly something Nishikata is working hard to secure. And a move to the West is a definite possibility.
“In Europe and the U.S., there are many fans of Morning Musume and Japanese idoru (manufactured entertainers), thanks to the Internet,” says Nishikata. “(We) were invited to an event in L.A. called A.X. (Anime Expo) as a music guest this July. There are already a lot of fans of Japanese animation (in the U.S.), so it might be easy to get in through that.”
No matter where they go next, the curiosity is that Morning Musume, the concept, will no doubt continue to outlast any of its members.

Former Morning Musume leader 'Mikitty' to wed comedian Tomoharu Shoji in July
TOKYO — Singer Miki Fujimoto, 24, former leader of pop group Morning Musume and popularly known as “Mikitty,” announced via a fax from her agency this week that she is engaged and will register her marriage to comedian Tomoharu Shoji, 33, of comedy duo “Shinagawa Shoji,” in July.
The pair’s relationship was exposed by weekly magazine FRIDAY in May 2007 after they were photographed spending a couple of days together. Fujimoto had been appointed leader of Morning Musume just a few weeks earlier, and decided to leave the group in June and stepped down from singing performances until April the following year, when she began her solo career.
Fujimoto said in the fax that she was really happy she had found someone supportive and understanding, and mentioned that she was not pregnant and will continue working after she gets married. She did not say when the wedding ceremony or reception will be held.
