SMAP shops add limited edition goods with theme “Are You SMAP?”
by Novaforever on November 24, 2010 at 8:20 am
It has been announced that SMAP original goods will be sold for a limited time at an official SMAP SHOP that will open for the end of the year. The store will be open from December 8th until January 10th in Tokyo’s Akasaka Sacas.
This year the store theme will be “Are You SMAP?“, and will have a similar feeling to last years theme of “Minna ga SMAP.” At the store, there will be outfits worn by the SMAP members and special comments from the members airing on televisions throughout the shop. The store will offer SMAP’s new live DVD, “We are SMAP! 2010 CONCERT DVD,” in a shop limited jacket, as well as aprons, lunch boxes, eco chopsticks, and kitchen gloves. All of these will be limited items only available at the SMAP SHOP.
As per tradition, the store will also be selling the store theme song for the year as a 390 yen single. In the past, the store has worked with Konishi Tasuharu, Nakatsuka Takeshi, and Nakata Yasutaka (capsule) for the remixed theme. This year, the chosen artist is DAISHI DANCE. He helped with the recording of “Are you SMAP?”, which will also only be available in the SMAP SHOP itself.
Fans interested in picking up all these limited edition items will have to go over to the SMAP SHOP venue personally. The store is only open for the holiday season and usually sees a lot of foot traffic. Tickets will be given out if the crowds get too heavy for the small shop.
TOKIO and Arashi will be hosting back-to-back special programs on NTV on New Year's Day, totaling five and a half hours in length. TOKIO will kick things off with the tentatively-titled "THE Ultraman DASH: Kiseki no 3-punkan wo Mokugekiseyo" (6:00pm-8:54pm), then pass the spotlight to Arashi for their "Arashi ni Shiyagare Ganjitsu 2-jikanhan SP" (9:00pm-11:24pm).
"THE Ultraman DASH" is a separate project from TOKIO's current show "The! Tetsuwan! Dash!!" (Sundays 7:00pm). In "The Ultraman DASH," TOKIO will meet with experts of activities such as skydiving, tightrope walking, and bungee jumping, who will attempt incredible feats. For example, one will change outfits while skydiving, while another will neatly slice a raw egg in half while bungee jumping.
Arashi's special will be an extended version of their show "Arashi ni Shiyagare," which has been on the air since April. It is reported that they will bring on two big-name guests, though their identities are currently being kept secret even from Arashi.
Although the two shows are separate, the ten members from both groups will assemble before each show for a short talk session together.
"GANTZ" scheduled for U.S. release, 300 theaters planned
The Japanese premiere of the first live-action "GANTZ" movie was held in Tokyo on Monday. Before the screening, it was announced that the film's U.S. premiere has been decided, with plans for distribution to approximately 300 theaters across the country.
The film, based on Hiroya Oku's popular manga of the same name, stars Kazunari Ninomiya and Kenichi Matsuyama. It is the first of two planned movies, which are scheduled for wide release in Japan on January 29 and April 23, respectively.
The U.S. will get a wide release of the film first, starting on January 20. Specific details about theaters and dates have not yet been announced.
It was also reported this summer that the "GANTZ" movies will be getting releases in at least several other countries, including France.
It’s been reported that Kiefer Sutherland (who’s well-known as ‘Jack Bauer’ from the hit TV series, “24“), will be making an appearance on Arashi’s variety show “Arashi ni Shiyagare” for December 11th.
He’s set to participate in the “Michi tono Sougu Shiyagare” corner, in which one of the Arashi members meets a mysterious guest, and learns a special skill from them. This time, Aiba Masaki was selected to meet the unknown guest, and had to undergo a hilarious ’special training’ by carrying the Hollywood star on his back.

Takashi Yamazaki directing 3D animated film, Shingo Katori to star
Tue, December 7, 2010 (10:44am EST)
Director Takashi Yamazaki, who most recently helmed the live-action "Space Battleship Yamato" movie, is already working on his next project. Titled "Friends: Mononoke Shima no Naki," it will be Japan's first feature-length 3D CG-animated film, and it will star SMAP's Shingo Katori (33) as the voice of the main character. Yamazaki and Katori last worked together on the director's debut film "Juvenile" in 2000.
With the current popularity of 3D animated films such as "Toy Story 3," Yamazaki decided to try making the first one to come out of Japan. He already has some experience with CG effects in his live-action films such as "Always: Sanchome no Yuhi" and "Ballad: Namonaki Koi no Uta."
Yamazaki wrote the screenplay for "Friends," based on a tear-jerker fairy tale titled "Naita Aka-Oni." The story revolves around a red oni named Naki (Katori) and a blue ogre named Gunjo (Koichi Yamadera) who live on an island, depicting their friendship and their interaction with a human boy. Other voices are being provided by Sadao Abe, Seishiro Kato, and YOU.
The film is expected to open in Japan in December 2011, playing in both 3D and 2D. Distributor Toho has stated that it aims for "Friends" to compete in the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature. Toho also said that it has already received distribution offers from the United States and multiple Asian countries.
Mr.Children's latest album, "SENSE," sold nearly 502,000 copies in its first week to take the #1 spot on the charts. This is the band's 8th consecutive #1 album and 13th overall, though their last album was released almost two years ago. Mr.Children's last five original albums have become million-sellers, and "SENSE" is well on its way to becoming the sixth.
DREAMS COME TRUE entered the charts at #2. An album for the anime series "Bleach" debuted at #7, followed by new released from fripSide, YUKI, and Black Eyed Peas.
On the singles chart, it was no surprise that KinKi Kids were #1 with their new song, "Family ~ Hitotsu ni Naru Koto," which sold more than 165,000 copies. They now have reached a milestone of 30 number-one singles. Ever since their 11th single in 2001, they have been certified by Guinness as the world record holder of "most consecutive #1 singles beginning with a debut single."
Several other new singles made the top ten: Yuzu was #2, followed in order by J Soul Brothers, T.M.Revolution, SID, °C-ute, and D?DATE (with their first single). Becky was two spots behind them at #9.
The DVD charts this week went to EXILE, whose "EXILE LIVE TOUR 2010 FANTASY" sold over 274,000 copies. This is their new personal record for first-week DVD sales, surpassing the 223,000 copies sold by their 2009 release "EXILE LIVE TOUR 2009 THE MONSTER."
