WATER

Water represents the colors black/dark blue, wavy shapes, North, winter, midnight and the final years of old age.
Water feeds and produces wood. Wood consumes and controls water. Earth absorbs and sullies water. Water puts out and destroys fire. Metal catches condensed water or melts and becomes liquid.
WOOD
Wood represents the warmth of spring. Spring begins the regeneration of life. The roots of trees and plants reach deep down, searching for the nourishment of stored water. Plant life emerges through the soil and expands. Wood chi is expanding.
Wood is upward, outward, germinating, sprouting, and penetrating energy. It is organic growth, origins, and new beginnings. Wood can be flexible like young bamboo or strong and unyielding like an oak tree. Plants feed human life. It can also consume all the nutrients from the earth.
Wood represents the colors medium blue/green/brown, rectangular shapes, East/Southeast, spring, dawn, birth and early childhood years.
Wood burns and produces fire. Fire controls wood by turning it into ashes. Wood penetrates and breaks up earth. Metal chops and destroys wood. Water feeds and produces wood.
FIRE
Fire represents the heat of summer. Summer is brightness and illumination. Nature reaches its zenith and becomes luxuriant. As wood and air fuel fire, flames rise. Fire chi is ascending.
Fire is enthusiastic, expanding, explosive, and consuming energy. It is burning, heat, light and flames. Fire brings joy and warmth. It can also be destructive by burning and destroying.
Fire represents the colors in the red family, sharp/angular shapes, South, summer, noon and the growing years before puberty.
Fire burns and turns ashes into earth. Earth absorbs and diminishes fire. Fire melts and liquefies metal. Water puts out and destroys fire. Wood burns and gives birth to fire.
EARTH
Earth represents late summer and between seasons. Earth chi is rotating, producing a stabilizing magnetic force called gravity which is the basis of all matter. It provides stability and transforms. Earth chi is stabilizing and transforming energy.
Earth is yielding, producing, sowing, reaping energy. It is crops, harvest, soil, ground and ashes. Earth is nurturing, loving, patient and methodical. It can also be smothering and demanding.
Earth signifies the color yellow/ochre, square/stout shapes, the center/ Southwest/Northeast, late summer, between seasons and the teen years.
Earth produces minerals into metal. Metal drains earth of nutrients as minerals are created. Earth absorbs and sullies water. Wood penetrates, uproots and destroys Earth. Fire turns ashes into Earth.
METAL
Metal represents the coolness of autumn. In autumn, when the harvest is done, the soil is depleted. Trees shed their leaves and return to the earth. Metal chi is condensing.
Metal is contracting, concentrating, controlling, crystallizing and coagulating energy. It is minerals, ores, hard metals like gold, silver, bronze, copper, etc. Metal makes tools to get work done. It can also be destructive, like a sword or a knife bringing injury through violence.
Metal represents the colors white, grey, gold, silver, metallic, round/arch shapes, West/Northwest, autumn, evening and the adult years.
Metal melts to liquid and catches the dew. Water rusts, decomposes and controls metal. Metal chops and destroys wood. Fire burns, melts and destroys metal. Earth creates minerals and gives birth to metal. |
