Charts: Ayumi Hamasaki sets singles record

Ayumi Hamasaki's 46th single, "Sunrise / Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~," was released last week. With over 75,000 copies sold, it ranked #1 on the sales charts, becoming her 21st consecutive (33rd total) number-one single. Overall, it is also her 44th single to enter the Top 10, putting her ahead of Southern All Stars, SMAP, ZARD, and B'z for the current record.
At #2 was Morning Musume with their latest song, "Nanchatte Renai," selling 55,000 copies. The rest of the top ten included GACKT (#4), supercell (#5), Toshihiko Takamizawa (#6), a new "K-On!" character single (#9), and Motohiro Hata (#10).
On the albums chart, Kobukuro remained at #1 for the second week in a row, but Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi ranked highest out of the new releases with 72,000 copies of "FRIENDS" at #2. Crazy Ken Band (#4) and Kaori Mochida (#9) also made the top ten.

Ayumi Hamasaki Started the Nation-Wide Tour to Mobilize 350,000 Audiences!
Ayumi Hamasaki (浜崎あゆみ) has started her nation-wide tour from Saitama Super Arena since April 11. She will have 34 performances in 13 venues this time, and mobilize 350,000 audiences which is a new record for herself.
"In the history of Ayumi Hamasaki, it might be the most splendid performance ever." said Hamasaki. To go with the theme of the new album "Rock' n' Roll Circus" which to be released on April 14, a clown appeared to rise the curtain of the concert. Bunny-girl, Rock style, Arabian style dress, Rider's jacket...there were 7 sets of outfit for Hamasaki, who created a fantasy world with all circus members, and sang 26 songs in 3 hours.
The finale of the tour will be held at Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo on July 25. And it was also announced that she would perform on the outdoor festival "a-nation" from August.
Ayumi Hamasaki's "Rock'n'Roll Circus" led the album rankings this week with over 205,000 copies sold. This is her tenth original album to top the charts, a feat last accomplished by Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi in 2003. The last female solo artist to do it was Yumi Matsutoya in 1988.
UVERworld ranked #2, while new releases from school food punishment and Kuranosuke Shiraishi occupied #9 and #10, respectively.
On the singles chart, Perfume failed to get another #1 single, as their double A-side "Fushizen na Girl / Natural ni Koishite" fell short against BUMP OF CHICKEN's "HAPPY," which sold 97,000 copies. Others in the top ten were Garnet Crow (#4), Angela Aki (#6), Kou Shibasaki (#8), and Tatsuro Yamashita (#9).
One single, Fuyumi Sakamoto's "Mata Kimi ni Koishiteru / Asia no Kaizoku," climbed the charts to #3, becoming her first song ever in the top three. The single was actually released in January 2009, but it took a commercial tie-in to finally launch the song high enough in the rankings.

Popular idol Hamasaki Ayumi is known to have gotten into online service Twitter recently. She had started tweeting on April 20th at about 10pm and until April 21st 4:36am she had come up with 46 tweets within only 6 hours. The response to her tweets had been great as well. She had been answering fan question and showing her interaction with the staff as well. There have been English tweets form the recording staff in London and fans from Brazil and Korea have also been writing.
Hamasaki's twitter had been a big topic already in advance, which was triggered by AVEX president Matsuura Masato, who had already created an account at twitter on 15th of April. On April 8th in 1998, the singer had made her debut and her first lines had been "ホントの自分の姿が少しずつぼやけ出してる押し寄せる人波の中... / Honto no Jibun no Sugata ga Sukoshi Zutsu Boyake Dashiteru Oshiyoseru Hitonami no Naka.../ As my true self is blurring little by little I am putting myself out through the crowd" - lines of the debut single [poker face]. Early in the morning she eventually wrote "I am going to bed now. The state of my fingers is really getting strange. (laughs) This time, seriously, I'm off! See you!" It seems she really had been tweeting until her fingers got sore.
