Leon Lai News Today ~ 05/09/2004
Leon has always been very supportive of Unicef activities. Yesterday, he attended two Unicef activities. At the press conference of "Change for Good", Unicef announced that HK$7 million was raised from 2002 to 2004 through this program. Leon was very satisfied with this amount. As it is not convenient to bring along coins, people are gradually doing away with them. For example, they are now using Octopus card instead of coins to pay for parking now. Therefore, Leon felt that the fund-raising method of "Change for Good" had to be changed.
As the boss of "East Asia Record", it was reported that he recently spent HK$40 million to buy a villa-style unit in Kowloon Tong to be the office of his new company, and that he also spent HK$5 million to renovate the office.
Asked whether he had spent HK$40 million for the address of his new company, he immediately said that as the old address of "Paciwood" had been used for more than 10 years, the place was already old, and therefore he rented the new address to be the combined office of "Paciwood" and "East Asia". Leon stressed that he does not like to spend money on things that everyone could not see. If he spends money on his albums or movies, and achieves good results, everyone could see it. He would not spend money on things such as office, as he rather use the money to invest in new films and new albums.
Also, the report said that he spent HK$5 million for a grand renovation of the office. Leon felt that whether it was grand or not, it depends on one's opinion. In his opinion, the most important thing is comfortable, and there is no need to be too fancy. As he seldom stays in the office, the most important thing is it is suitable for his colleagues. Leon said, as the new office space is bigger, press conferences could be held at the office building in future, like the press conference of his new album the day after tomorrow would be held at the new office. They could also save on renting venues in hotels.
At the same time when his album would be released, Leon had to go to Tianshan for the filming work of "The Seven Swords". Because of this, he had to begin the promotion work of his new album earlier. Charlie Young, the leading actress in the movie, was worried of getting mountain sickness in Tianshan, Leon felt that there was no need to worry, as he had gone there before and he believed that as long as everyone does not randomly light fires, they would not get mountain sickness. Instead, Leon was worried of losing his direction, and the inconvenience of not having toilet facilities.

Leon Lai News Today ~ 07/09/2004
Leon held a press conference for his new album, "DAWN", at his company's new address yesterday. Leon drove a Mini Cooper convertible into the press conference, and a lot of fans had already waited for him at the entrance. Besides the staff of Paciwood and East Asia Record Production, the top management of various media were also present. Together with Leon, Mark Lui, the producer, shared the joy and pains of making the album. However, the other artistes of the company like Michelle Reis, were not seen. Leon said that he hoped that this time, everyone would focus on the album. Otherwise, if too many people appeared, it would become making news.
The new album would be released on 11 September. Why did Leon choose this day? Leon said that it fits the schedule and the time needed for printing the albums, and there are no special meanings. Although 9.11 would make people remember an unhappy event, but afterall, it had happened a long time ago, and he believed that there would be no influence. This new album is a CD + DVD with music videos of 6 songs, and thus the cost was rather high. Nevertheless, Leon felt that this is a trend, a producer would always hope to present his works in the best effect to the audience. Then would the price of the CD be raised? He said that the price should be about the same as past CDs. Leon had always loved trees. Therefore, his assistant Alan specially found someone to plant a tree at the door. As for whether it is a feng shui tree, they did not give a direct reply. |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 08/09/04
For the promotion of his new album, Leon went to three radio stations to do interviews yesterday. Despite his hard work, the news focus was still not on his new album, and this made him feel a bit discouraged. He said that he had tried his best to make the album promotion as the focus of the press conference held for his new album the day before, but in the end, the resulting news reports put Shu Qi as the focus, and this made him very unhappy. It was pointed that the female lead of his music video "Cannot be a lifetime" looked very similar to Shu Qi. Asked whether he had the same feeling, Leon said no and he actually felt that she looked like Amuro Namie and Akina Nakamori instead.
Yesterday, Leon went to RTHK for interview. Sheila Chin, Who had always viewed Leon as her idol, would alway make herself absent whenever Leon came for an interview. Yesterday, Chow Kwok Fung deliberately did not tell Sheila that Leon would be their guest that day. When Sheila arrived at the radio station, then she knew that she had to interview Leon and she immediately felt very nervous. When Leon entered the studio, Sheila immediately acted very unnatural. Leon asked Sheila whether she was feeling ill, while Chow Kwok Fung teased her that she was getting out of control. |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 09/09/04
Leon attended the first showing of the promotional clip for "Community Chest Dress Casual Day" yesterday. "Dress Casual Day" would be held on the 28th this month during Mid-Autumn Festival. The new promotional clip was once again produced, directed and performed by Leon. The clip lasted about 30 seconds and and was made up by cartoon characters.
Leon, as a member of Community Chest Campaign Committee, said that he took one day to come up with the idea of the promotional clip. As the other Community Chest committee members were also very busy, and it was hard to gather them together to film the clip, so he used cartoon this time. As it was quite rushed, there was still a bit of post-production work to be done for the promotional clip. Leon would took off to Tianshan today to film the movie, "The Seven Swords".
At the first showing ceremony, Leon noticed that a little girl who was posing as a monkey was very smart. He had wanted to pull her closer for a group photo, therefore he pulled her tail, but the little girl immediately push his hand away to stop him from touching her backside. This action made Leon feel that the little girl reaction was very fast and was very smart. But Leon stressed that he did not know that the tail was the little girl's backside.
It was reported that a record company wanted to sign the "Diving Prince", Tian Liang, with HK$10 million. Leon was asked whether he was interested in signing Tian Liang to be a singer of "East Asia". He said that he knew Tian Liang and his manager. From what he knew, there should be no such thing. But Leon was supportive of athletes filming commercials, as it was more simple and they could earn extra income, unlike filming dramas which required a lot of time. Furthermore, their charm still lies in their sportsmen image. But if one day Tian Liang is a not an athlete anymore and is interested in joining the showbiz, Leon felt that it was his personal decision.
Leon was asked whether he knew Li Yapeng. Leon said, "Yes, I saw him and Faye Wong last time when we watched the female volleyball match." Asked whether Faye had introduced Li Yapeng as her boyfriend to him, Leon said, "I already knew Li Yapeng, there's no need for introduction. (Do you know they are going out with each other?) We are friends, we won't go and ask such questions. Whether they are going out or not, it's none of my business, as long as they are happy." |

Leon's first album, "Dawn", of his new record company would be released tomorrow. Although Leon had already left for Tianshan to film a movie, and could not attend any promotional activities at the release date of his new album, the record company was not worried at all, as Leon's new album has the highest quality from the sound to the picture, and this is already its best selling point.
According to the record company, the cost of Leon's new album is about 3 times higher than normal CDs, because the DVD quality is very good and its picture is as detailed as a movie. However, producing the DVD required about 2 months and the CD had only began its printing a few days ago. Luckily, the printing company was very helpful and did its best to rush the work.
The Korean pretty girl, Han Na, who had filmed Leon's "Cannot be a lifetime" MV eariler, also filmed another Leon's Mv for the song "What", in which she showed her dancing skills. In addition, she also shot a series of photographs with Leon for the album booklet. In order to capture the most beautiful moment of dusk, Leon had to wait for a few days for the most satisfied picture. |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 11/09/04
Leon left Hong Kong for Xinjiang, Urumqi, to film Tsui Hark's new movie, "The Seven Swords" the day before. Leon said that he would stay in Xinjiang for about 2 weeks. On Mid-Autumn Festival, he would then return to Hong Kong to attend activities for "Dress Casual Day" and promotion of his new album. Then, he would flew back to Xinjiang to continue the filming work, which would be completed around November.
Leon was asked which places would be used for the movie's location, he said, "I don't know, haven't received the information. (Has Charlie Yeung reached there?) I'm not sure, I think I'm the last one to reach." It was said that Tsui Hark does not sleep and it is very tiring to film his movies, Leon said, "I've heard of this before, but I know that he needs to sleep and have enough sleep to give high-quality work." Asked whether he could cope with the numerous fighting scenes, Leon said, "I started in TVB, who could not fight? Last time there was no substitute. (Did he buy insurance at that time?) No." Asked whether he was insured for filming "The Seven Swords", Leon said he was not sure. |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 13/09/04
Yesterday, Leon did a recorded interview with RTHK, and he talked about the reason for setting up his own record company. He said, "These few years are the low point of the record industry. Many international record companies are under very great pressure. Also, I don't want to make everyone's burden greater, and sometimes many things which I want to do, they may not want to do. Then at this time, another record company came to find me, and it is my present East Asia Records." Leon also admitted that he had a sense of stubbornness regarding the production of the music videos of his songs. He had very high expectations which not many people could accept.
Leon is 37 years old this year, he was asked whether he had plans for marriage. Leon said that he had never thought of it before and he felt that his love relationship could be damaged by the media. Seeing Kenny Bee getting married to getting divorced had a great influence on him. |

Yesterday, at a radio interview with William Hung, a recorded clip in which Leon mentioned about William was played. Leon felt that William was a smart person and he did not feel anybody was imitating anybody. William agreed and said that actually everyone had his own characteristics and he was very happy about Leon's praises for him.
During his free time, William shopped around with his father and without hesitating, he bought his idol, Leon Lai's new CD, and was smiling away. |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 28 & 29/09/04
Leon, who was recently busy with the filming work of "The Seven Swords" at Tianshan, returned to Hong Kong especially to attend the "Community Chest Dress Casual Day" activties yesterday. This year, the funds-raising amount had broken the record. Leon and the other committee members were very satisfied, and they hoped that they could get good results again next year.
Yesterday, the organiser invited the table tennis doubles, Ko Lai Chak and Li Ching, to attend the event, and somebody donated Hk$100,000 to ask for a friendly match among the guests. In the end, Leon's team won by winning 2 out of 3 rounds. Leon said that he had not known that the organiser had arranged for a table tennis match. After the match, Leon even exchanged contact numbers with the table tennis twins. He modestly said that his table tennis skills was far from them, but he would ask them for advice. Leon said, "Usually when I play table tennis with Zi Chuen (his assistant), he would attack me till I have to run here and there. So I want to ask the table tennis twins to teach me a few attack moves."
The night before, Leon who had just returned to Hong Kong, immediately rushed to Shatin to rehearse for the Mid-Autumn show. Recently, the hottest topic was about singers miming in performances, and it was pointed that this was damaging to their professional image. Leon was asked about his opinion on this. He felt that the market of the music industry is very bad now. In Hong Kong, only 50,000 to 60,000 people are buying CDs, and over a million people are downloading music illegally. He hoped that the media would not create so much news to damage the singers' image. He said that there were many factors behind that resulted in the singer not singing live, and not everyone knew about them. Without full understanding of the situation, it was very unfair to the singer to conclude that not singing live was unprofessional. Leon felt that if the live sound system was good and the singer's health was at his/her best, the singer would definitely sing live. However, there were now some newcomers who could not sing live at all. About this, Leon did not wish to comment. He said that when he was a newcomer, his singing was also very bad. He had slowly practised to this stage now. The most important thing is to have a clear conscience. Asked whether singing live at big shows is a form of respect to the organiser, Leon said that there was no relationship between the two. Sometimes, charity shows might have to save money and therefore requested for singers to mime, like the CCTV shows, in order to have no errors, they requested singers to mime, and that was inevitable. He hoped that the public would not point fingers at the singers. He also added that if a fan likes a singer, whether he sings live or not, the fan would still support him. If he is not your cup of tea, whatever he does, the fan also would not support him.
On the other hand, it was reported that both Eason Chan and Leon had applied for the August slot of the Hong Kong Coliseum to hold their concerts next year, but in the end Eason won the slot. Leon said that there was no such thing as fighting for the slot. He said that without the August slot of the Hong Kong Coliseum, he could find another venue to perform, and it was not a must for him to hold a concert. Furthermore, these things are handled by East Asia. |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 30/09/04
Leon, Jerry Yen, Hacken Lee and Ekin Cheng etc performed in a mid-autumn show held in Shatin the night before to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with the residents. Leon was the last to perform, and fireworks and dancers were arranged to accompany his performance.
Leon recently was in Tianshan to film a movie. At first, everyone was worried about the problem of toilet facilities. However, when he arrived there, he discovered that they were already very advanced. Every artiste had a travel vehicle and it was very well-equipped, especially the washroom was very advanced, hygienic and convenient.
As the temperature had fallen very sharply there, Leon found out that the Mongolian tents actually are very warm. He also said that many funny things happened during filming. For example, he could see "zik joeng (straight setting sun)" and "ce joeng (slanted setting sun)" at the same time. What is Leon talking about? He smiled and said, "There were sheeps ("jeong") everywhere on the mountains. Some were standing on slanting ("ce") roads (slopes) while some were standing on straight ("zik") roads. And that's "zik joeng (straight sheeps)" and "ce joeng(slanting sheeps)", haha!" Also, he discovered that camels hate to take photographs. Everytime someone tried to go near it to take photographs, it immediately spit out saliva with grasses in it on seeing the flash. His assistant had been hit with it before, and it was very funny. |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 02/10/2004
Leon attended "Leon What Concert" which was held for him by Commercial Radio the night before. Besides hearing Leon sing at the concert, some fortunate fans also had a rare chance to get closer to their idol. This was because the winner of a game could become the passenger of Leon's bike for a few rounds on the stage. While the lucky fan was enjoying herself at the back of the Leon's bike, the fans under the stage were both envious and jeolous.
There were two fans from Taiwan who especially came to Hong Kong to watch the concert. At the arrangement of the organiser, they had a special privilege to take photographs together with Leon. They also specially brought duck tongues from Taiwan for Leon. After taking photographs and giving the gift, they had to go down the stage to watch the performance, but these two fans wanted to hug Leon before going down the stage. In the end, Leon granted their wish.
While chatting with the fans, their most concerned question was when Leon would hold a concert. Leon replied that he had always wanted to hold a concert, and he had already applied for 5 times to the "Hong Kong Coliseum", but till now, none of his applications had gone through yet. However, he would continue to try, until his application goes through.
Recently, Leon and Jerry Yen attended TVB's mid-autumn show and it was reported that the strength of Leon's fans was less than Jerry Yen and even the number of security guards was less than the other. About this, Leon said that he did not mind, because reports had their own perspective of report. Actually, he felt that every singer who performed that night was popular. As for the arrangement of security guards, Leon explained that the organiser had not arranged for any security guards that night. It was only that Jerry had already employed security guards for an activity before it, and since their working hours had not ended, so they continued to follow Jerry to the show. |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 03/10/2004
Yesterday, Leon attended the 10th aniversary activity of HMV at Tsim Sha Tsui and attracted many fans, in addition to big groups of Mainland tourists and Filipino maids. Hundreds of them filled up the area around HMV. When Leon was preparing to leave, his van at the entrance was surrounded by fans and some fans stepped onto the road, while some fans even climbed up the barricade along the road. In the end, after the police came in to ask them to go back to the pedestrian walkway, then Leon finally could leave the place. When his van had started, his fans still ran onto the road to chase his van!
Since Leon released his new album, it had been the top-selling album at HMV for two weeks continuously. With such good sales, was Leon able to relax now? He said that he had never been anxious in the first place, otherwise he would not fly to Xinjiang for filming on the day his album was released. He said, "When my album was completed, I felt that I had already done my part, and I could face myself. Especially being able to put 6 music videos together with the album, I'm already very satisfied." He did not especially attend any other promotional activities. This time, it was just coincidental that he was in Hong Kong and besides, he had promised HMV earlier, and thus he appeared in HMV's event. Although the sales of his new album was very good, he would not hold any celebration for it. Leon joked that if he had the time, he would rather use it to rest, because the weather in Xinjiang was very different from Hong Kong. He had to rest for a few days to adapt back to Hong Kong's weather after he returned to Hong Kong. During National Day, he had fell asleep while watching the fireworks display as he was too tired.
Somebody suggested to Leon to hold an autograph session to boost his album sales. He said, "I have never tried holding an autograph session before, maybe it's my personal habit. I feel that newcomers should hold autograph sessions to let the audience know them better, and I certainly support them in doing so. But I had missed this type of chance when I was a newcomer, and since I'm already quite well-known, I won't think of doing these things anymore. Fans also have not requested me to hold autograph sessions, they are already used to my character."
About still waiting for the Hong Kong coliseum's schedule and when he would hold a concert again, Leon said that he would not worry about it at the moment. Currently, it was filming first, He said, "Besides the Hong Kong Coliseum, there are no other suitable venues for concert in Hong Kong. Although the Convention Centre could be used, but the place does not suit me, because the ceiling is too low and it would give me a compelling pressure feeling and make it hard for me to concentrate. Maybe I'm spoilt by the Hong Kong Coliseum, but I'm willing to wait slowly. Especially now, the mainland audience can come to Hong Kong anytime to watch the concert, and conversely, if I hold a concert in Mainland first, the Hong Kong audience could also go there to watch." |

ALBUM TERBARU LEON LAI (Album ke-69)
Product Title : Leon Dawn
Singer Name(s) : Leon Lai
Release Date : September 11, 2004
Language : Cantonese
Package Weight : 230 g
Publisher : East Asia Music
Other Information : CD + DVD
Description of "Leon Dawn"
Professional Review of "Leon Dawn"
Leon's Dawn:Dawn ~ Leon Lai
Starring in three blockbusters such as San Geng, Leaving Me Loving You and Infernal Affairs III has fuelled a strong comeback for Leon Lai in the local showbiz. Having claimed The Best Actor Award, he is storming back to the local music industry as he releases a brand new album Dawn which includes 11 Mandarin and Cantonese songs.
Although other producers such as Wu YueCheng and Ce Tian of On Your Mark are parts of the production crew, the chief producer Lei SongDe still leaves a heavy influence in the album's style. The "new" songs are not of much difference from his old ones as most of them are canned love songs and upbeat dance songs. The present reviewer thinks fans would still appreciate of what they have been fond of for years. The only pity is that Leon has not made much progress, except being a bit more expressive and passionate, in his singing.
Songs like Hoity-toity (Track#2), Don't Lick The Wound (Track#3), Minority (Track#6), Do I Still Love You(Track#7) and Will Laugh Will Cry (Track#5) are all ballads which Leon is good at. Each song is special and unique. Hoity-toity is beautiful and touching. Don't Lick The Wound is great in music and lyrics and Leon's amazing performance in Do I Still Love You has perfected the song.
However, other songs such as One To One (Track#4), In Deep Distress (Track#9) and Result Table (Track#10) are not that good. The commercial theme song One To one is with no character at all despite being rhythmic and poppy while the lyrics of In Deep Distress, one of the four Mandarin songs in the album, is old-fashioned. Result Table is not very good either. In Contrast, Slow Motion (Track#11) and the opening track What (Track#1) are much better ones.
Recommendations: Hoity-toity (Track#2), Don't Lick The Wound (Track#3), Do I Still Love You (Track#7) and Slow Motion (Track#11) |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 05/10/2004
Leon attended the recording of Jade Solid Gold the night before. Leon had not appeared in this programme for a long time, and he felt that there were a lot of changes to the programme, whether it was the host or the contents etc, they were all very different from the past. As for singers had to sing live at the programme, Leon said that he had been singing live and it was no difference to him. Seeing that the programme continued to improve itself, Leon felt that it was a good thing to singers. As for Leon's new song being the number one at the JSG chart, he smiled and thanked everyone for their support. |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 11/10/2004
Leon had not released an album for two years and this time, at the release date of his new album, he had to go back to Mainland to film a movie and could not attend much promotional activities. Nevertheless, even without much promotion, Leon's new album still manages to sell. As known, Leon's new album has obtained the best results in the last five years in HMV, which is a rare scene in the music industry for the last five years.
Leon Dawn, released in September after Leon joined East Asia Record Production, with more than 20,000 copies of the album distributed in the first batch, already topped the best-selling chart in HMV on the second day of its release. Reporter also interviewed CD shops in Mongkok, and one of the shop owners revealed, "Leon's new album is very good-selling. Maybe it has been too long since he released an album. Actually, besides the Hong Kong fans buying, there were even Taiwan fans who called here especially to order the album."
About the good results of Leon's album, reporter asked Alvin Wang, the Administrative Director of East Asia Record Production A Music. He revealed that he had already called Leon with the good news in the first time earlier. Although Leon was not able to stay in Hong Kong for the album promotion, the promotional work was still going on. Besides putting advertisements on TV, newspapers and magazines, there was also a big billboard at the busiest exit of a tunnel. The promotional fees will definitely have a 7-figure amount.
On the other hand, Leon is currently filming "The Seven Swords" in Xinjiang. As they are still filming at the big city, the working environment is still quite good, the only thing is the big difference in the local temperature. Later, Leon will go along with the filming crew to the deserted places for filming. His assistant would have to bring along dried foods and instant noodles in case there is a need. As known, Leon is very serious about this movie. Every night after work, he will have a meeting with the director in the hotel for a few hours, in order to give his best. |

Leon Lai News Today ~ 25/10/2004
The movie, "The Seven Swords" was currently being filmed in Xinjiang. Recently, there was news that Leon had fallen ill and had taken leave to go home. The media was the most concerned about this news and they learned the truth from Lau Kar Leung, the martial arts director of the film, yesterday. As the weather in Tianshan was very cold and harsh, Leon was bracing the wind and filming a horse-racing scene for 4 hours continuously, he finally could not stand it anymore. Not only a big patch of his face was sensitive, he also caught a flu and was having a fever. Although Leon personally did not want to go back to Hong Kong, but his face was sensitive and was red and swollen, which could not be covered by make-up. Therefore, the filming crew had to let him rest and see a doctor. Nevertheless, reporters also learned from Lau Kar Leung that Leon was already recovering and he could return for filming at the end of the month.
Charlie Yeung, in talking about her cooperation with the male actors in the film, said that she had more scenes with Leon. About her comments of Leon, she said that Leon had filmed quite a lot of action movies and had a lot of experience. She told reporters that after she got hurt, Leon often taught her how to treat her wound etc. Therefore, she called him "Doctor Lai" at the filming set. |
