The BWF Superseries is a 12 tournaments series designed to attract the top 32 players from around the world and finally competing in the BWF World Superseries Finals for the top 8 players and pairs in the Superseries points standing.  Following a review of its events in 2010, the BWF decided introduce a two-tier Superseries circuit – the Superseries Premier and Superseries for the 2011-2013 season.


From the 12 Superseries events, five have been selected as Premier Series events, with the Korea Open offering USD1.2 million prize money, the highest ever for a badminton tournament.


Hosted from January through to December each year the events are usually hosted in pairs in a similar region of the world – in mid January,Proton Malaysian Superseries  kicks off the year followed by the  the Victor Korean Superseries  Premier

The Superseries was introduced to showcase badminton at a higher level of competitiveness, to increase television coverage for the sport and to increase the star quality and popularity of the top players in the world through a wider television audience.

Players earn World Ranking Points towards their World Ranking according to the special classification of those tournaments which have been nominated by the BWF. From 2011 BWF have introduced world ranking points for Superseries finals and higher points for Premier events.

There is also a separate standings for players competing in the Superseries - called the Superseries Standings - and the top eight men's and women's singles players, top eight men's and women's doubles pairs, and top eight mixed doubles pairs qualify for the BWF Superseries Finals at the end of the year.
