MAWI, M.Nasir, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and Search facing off against each other in an SMS-based reality TV programme? The idea is not as far-fetched as you think.

In an exclusive interview with The Malay Mail yesterday, Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) industry development committee chairman Adrian Lim revealed that the four are among the top 20 Malaysian artistes that were picked by RIM to take part in the Malaysian Ikon competition.
Ikon, said to be the biggest popularity-based Asean musical programme, will pit the best solo performers and groups from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines against each other for a cash prize of US$25,000 (RM91,128) and the title of Ikon Asean.
In finding representatives from each country, the top 10 in the best solo and groups category would go up against each other in a reality-TV like programme.
The winner will be decided based on SMS votes and one will eventually walk away with the Ikon title of their respective countries.
In Malaysia, the responsibility in selecting the best 20 was handed to RIM and as of yesterday, the suggested 20 has been finalised.
