New drama alert! KBS is lining up their next Monday-Tuesday drama to follow Shark — a medical drama called Green Scalpel — and the production is reportedly courting Joo-won (Gaksital) and Joo Sang-wook (Special Affairs Team TEN) to star. They’re both considering the roles and working on contract negotiations, so nothing’s final yet. If Joo-won signs on, he’ll star as a developmentally disabled young man who has the personality of a child, but the skills of a genius surgeon. So it’s Joo-won: Doogie Howser M.D.? Wait, you guys know who Doogie Howser is, right? Suddenly feeling very old…
The new drama comes from PD Ki Min-soo of hit family drama Ojakkyo Brothers, and writer Park Jae-bum of OCN forensic procedural God’s Quiz (he wrote all three seasons). Medical dramas aren’t really my thing, but Joo-won getting back together with Ojakkyo’s director is definitely good news, and the twist on the usual medical drama might be worth a watch.
The “human drama” is about an autistic young man with the personality of a grade-schooler (stunted developmentally at around ten years old), who becomes a pediatric surgeon. That’s even crazier than just plain child genius doctor. It sounds like the kind of role that gets actors awards, so I have a feeling it won’t be passed up so easily, even with injuries, movies, and musicals keeping him plenty busy.
Joo Sang-wook is up for the ace pediatric doctor role, so he’ll be Joo-won’s rival in the hospital.It would crack me up if Joo Sang-wook played his role straight out of White Tower or , and Joo-won countered the rivalry with neener-neeners and made-ya-look jokes. Considering Joo-won’s already a teenager trapped in the body of a twenty-something, how much of a stretch could it be?
Green Scalpel follows Shark, which puts its premiere in August.

Joo Won has been cast in a lead role for the upcoming KBS2 medical drama Green Scalpel.
Sim Entertainment revealed through a press release on May 28 that "Joo Won has been cast as the lead of Green Scalpel."

The role he took up is that of the pediatric surgeon resident Park Si On. He is a kind figure, who grew up with autism and a developmental disorder caused by his father′s abuse. He grows up to become a genius surgeon as it is revealed he has Savant Syndrome, a condition in mentally challenged persons that lets them show a brilliant talent in other areas.
Shim Jung Woon, head of Sim Entertainment, said, "Joo Won believes Green Scalpel is a good chance for him to show how he has broadened his spectrum. I know he will do well because he gives his best in any role given him. I hope you continue to show support for him."
Green Scalpel will air in August.

The production crew of the new KBS 2TV Mon/Tues drama "Green Scalpel" has replied to the news that actress Moon Chae-won has been proposed to be the female lead as "Nothing is confirmed".
The production crew of "Green Scalpel" revealed to OSEN in the afternoon of the 29th, "The actress who will portray the female lead will be chosen before next week".
Presently, "Green Scalpel" has confirmed Joo-won to portray the role of the genius doctor, Park Min-jae. And Moon Chae-won has received the offer of portraying the associate professor of the pediatric surgery, Cha Yoon-seo.
In addition, "Green Scalpel" is a 'human medical drama' about the process of a youth with a growth/development disorder who gets recognized as a true surgeon.

Cha Yoon Seo is a fellow pediatric surgeon with a strong sense of duty and faith. She entered Korea′s best medical school as the second best of her class, and quickly became a full-time doctor with her talent. She never hesitates to speak up in front of her bosses.
Moon Chae Won will be acting alongside Joo Won, a warm resident doctor, and Joo Sang Wook, a charismatic and talented assistant professor, in a love triangle.
Moon Chae Won said about her role, "I could feel how the writer wanted to convey a kind of humane warmth and hope. I was also curious on what doctors feel and think as they meet with patients nonstop every day. That′s why Green Scalpel seemed so special to me."
Green Scalpel is about how a doctor with Savant Syndrome becomes a pediatric surgeon. It will start airing in August in the time slot of Shark.
