Only 2 out of 5 organizations use truly effective technologies for protection

Only 2 out of 5 organizations use truly effective technologies to protect against corporate threats
The need for protection against unwanted correspondence andmalware is now obvious to the vast majority of companies. Based on datacollected by Kaspersky Lab andthe analytical agency B2B International in November 2012, 82% of companiesacross the globe have implemented anti-malware protection, while 80% useanti-spam technologies. However, given that cybercriminals are usingincreasingly sophisticated techniques to steal information, additionalprotection tools are necessary.

The scope of contemporary cybercriminal activityis truly impressive: Kaspersky Lab experts detect an average of 200,000 newmalicious programs every day, and72% ofall email messages are spam. This means that solutions offering protectionagainst these threats are essential, and it comes as no surprise that over 80%of companies have adopted them.

At the same time, it should be noted thatcybercriminals are increasingly counting on the quality of their malware ratherthan quantity. In 2012, large companies faced attempts to conduct targeted attacks on their ITinfrastructure. In such attacks, highly skilled cybercriminals use all themethods available, including socia‐engineering techniques and exploits targeting as yet unknown(zero-day) vulnerabilities. Many of these tools are also used in sophisticatedmass attacks on home users and companies.

Traditional antivirus technologies are notdesigned to provide protection against complex malware and, hence, targetedattacks. The required level of security can be achieved only by usingadditional protection technologies (encryption, Automatic Exploit Prevention, System Watcher, script emulatoretc.) and by restricting activities that are not directly related to theemployee’s work (control of access to the corporate network, devices, applications and the Internet).

However, the findings of the study conducted byB2B International are not reassuring: only a little over a third of those surveyedencrypt corporate data, only 43% use systems that detect attacks on ITinfrastructure (IPS/IDS), while 15% are not aware that such systems exist orare not interested in using them. Fewer than half of the companies surveyedcontrol the use of external devices or third‐partyapplications, and only 55% use NAC technology. At the same time, there is onepositive trend: about a fifth of the companies surveyed are planning toimplement one or more of the above technologies this year. These companies mightwant to look at Kaspersky Lab’s integrated corporate solution – the

Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business platform, which includes the most advanced technologies and
tools providing protection against cyber-threats.

Kaspersky Labbusiness solution

The Kaspersky Endpoint Securityfor Business platform offers comprehensive protection for all nodesin thecorporate IT infrastructure, includingservers, workstations and mobile devices (including employee‐owned devices). The platform’s modular structure provides the necessary flexibility, allowing IT departments to choose only relevant protection technologies, whichhelps to reduce their security related costs. All the solutions included inKaspersky Endpoint Security for Business were developed by Kaspersky Labspecialists, so all of the platform’s modules are fully compatible with eachother.
