It won't rain on our fashion parade! Ladies Day racegoers brave bad weather at Royal Ascot to put on stunning display of hat designs

It is the highlight of the summer social calendar and nothing - not even the prospect of the predicted 2pm thunderstorm - could dampen the spirits of racegoers on Ascot's Ladies Day.
The royal racecourse was transformed into a sea of colour for the third day of the Royal meet, with bright outfits topped off by the most flamboyant of hats.
Tickets have been sold out for months for this year's Ladies Day - the day in which women wear their biggest, boldest, and often most outlandish outfit.
With the rain falling steadily all night, the grounds were wet, meaning that ladies had to pick their way through muddy puddles in their finery - but even that was not enough to curb the enthusiasm.
Despite the gathering clouds, the crowds were in high spirits as they flocked through the gates.
As befits tradition, statement hats were the order of the day, with everything from Olympic torches to teapots providing inspiration for the headgear on show, with many racegoers clearly keeping their most magnificent outfits for the occasion.

Here come the girls! Katherine Jenkins, Amy Childs and Kimberly Garner all turn on the style for Ladies Day at Royal Ascot

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the new dress code for the Royal Enclosure at Ascot this year.
Dresses must fall no shorter than just above the knee, spaghetti straps are out and you can forget about fascinators as headpieces need to have a base of at least four inches.
Even famous faces must adhere to the strict rules and Katherine Jenkins, Amy Childs and Kimberly Garner all made sure they looked the part as they attended Ladies Day at Royal Ascot today.

Just about sticking to the rules! Katherine Jenkins looked stunning but the sheer panels on her dress which showed off some skin were lucky to pass the new regulations at Royal Ascot

Hold on to your hats (and your hemlines)! Ascot ladies battle with the wind as gales blowing through Royal course play havoc with race day outfits

As howling winds hit Royal Ascot today, race goers in their race day finery were forced to hold on to their hats as gusts of wind threatened to send them soaring across the parade ground.
Girls in floaty dresses came a cropper as strong gusts lifted up their hemlines, revealing a dress code-flouting expanse of leg - and on some occasions, even their underwear.
Brollies were wrestled back into shape after turning inside out, and carefully blow-dried hair was whipped into tangled birds' nests.
Given that this was the fourth day of inclement weather at the Royal meet, punters were well-prepared for the rain - but little could prepare them for the gales.
