Hours after it was posted a handful of news outlets, including the Associated Press, retracted the image saying “the source had manipulated the image in a way that did not meet AP’s photo standards.” One day later, Kensington Palace released a statement signed by Kate that included an apology and a claim that she was an “amateur photographer” who “ with editing.” That series of events led to online unconfirmed claims that Kate was in a coma (the Palace reportedly dismissed this theory as “ludicrous”) and claims that William was having an affair and Kate planned to leave him.
