Delhi CWG 2010, Journalists and others using Wireless Dongles instead of Wi-Fi
Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010, Journalists and others using Wireless Dongles instead of Wi-Fi; Delhi businesses under-estimated the commercial potential of Wi-Fi in the City!

Delhi, India -/Wi-Fi Technology News/- While India is considered a computer software technology superpower when it comes to its vast wealth of qualified and talented software engineers and programmers. Perhaps only in such world institutions or tech hubs such as Cambridge, America's MIT or silicon valley can one find an equally technology rich pool of demographic talent.

Yet the finger pointing at the Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi, was equally pointed at India's electronic and computer technology infrastructure preparations, they were no different and were not spared any criticism either.

According to Heidi Ghaichem, one of our staff writers and member of the International Press Team in Delhi, things went pear-shaped right from the first day. In one of her earlier blog posts, her comments underline many of the widely reported media quotes concerning the "laidback attitude" Indian Officials seem to adopt in preparation for the Commonwealth Games 2010.

Though the whole Wi-Fi coverage plans and the infrastructure was in place well before the games, and officials even used and secured the services of a leading India based wi-fi and wireless solution provider. Inventum Technologies Pvt. Ltd was contracted to secure wi-fi coverage, according to a press release from Inventum, things should have run smoothly.

Due to security concerns, the Delhi local police went as far as banning the use of Wi-Fi just days before the games were due to start, according to the Telegraph newspaper article.

Andy Gull, the Guardian newspaper's Delhi correspondent, Journalists are relying on wireless dongles to get hooked to the Internet. "It took a day and a half to get the internet to work. These Games are wifi-free" Andy writes.

Many hotels and residential outlets outside the games village did not seem to have grasped the commercial potential of providing wi-fi, according to our staff writer,Heidi still uses a dongle outside the Games village and in her residential area which included her getting in touch with us through her timely video calls. On a positive note, Heidi states that all venues and computer systems are in place, and the games are run in an efficient and expected manner, she goes on to say how amazed is she by the good will and hospitality of the Indian people and officials alike.
