Singapore: A Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF) Apache Longbow Attack Helicopters (AH-64D) has crashed in an open field in the north of Singapore.

According to a statement from Singapore's Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), the helicopter made an emergency landing at the open field between Woodlands Avenue 12 and Woodlands Drive 75 at about 3.30 in the afternoon today.

The Apache has a crew of two, and it is believed that the aircrew were not injured in the forced landing as MINDEF said that there was no reported injury to personnel.

There was no damage to civilian property, according to the Defence Ministry.

Citizen journalism website Stomp was first alerted to the incident by a reader, who sent in photographs of the scene.

The reader told Stomp that he was driving past the open field when he saw the Apache helicopter crash landing onto the field, sending its tail flying about 50 metres away.

From the photos, the tailpiece is pictured separately from the main body.

"I saw the helicopter circling in the air, coming down rapidly, before crash landing into the field. There was no one else on the field", Quintus told Stomp.

"The two pilots later got out of the helicopter and I saw them standing around", he added.

The RSAF's Apaches operate out of Sembawang Air Base and is the most advanced helicopter in the republic's air force arsenal.

It is also touted as the most technologically advanced attack helicopters in the world.

Armed with Hellfire missiles the attack helicopter can conduct precision strikes under all weather conditions.

Investigations are ongoing, says MINDEF.

lucky crew is OK. Walaupun crash, tapi nampak Apache ni sturdy dan tough dimana survivability of its crew is atmost importance

It is not really so much a crash but a hard and forced emergency landing. The tail broke first because presumably it hit the ground first. But you are right. The Apache is one sturdy helicopter. Notice how the main section consisting of the cockpit, weapon wings, engines and guns are still relatively fine;

The longbow radar and actual weapons were not attached for this training flight.

Not too worry. It is still under warranty. Damaged parts can be replaced. The tail section can be re-attached. Everything else seems fine. Preliminary investigations points to the engine. If it is Boeing's fault, they might even need to compensate us.

I said a tough emergency landing so as to avoid a crash. It seems that they were fighting for control of the helicopter. The pilots were skilled enough to avoid hitting any houses. houses are about several hundred metres to one kilometre away.
