Kim Bum heads to Philippines, Thailand
Kim Bum is traveling to the Philippines on the 30th for a 4 day tripto promote Boys Over Flowers. Kim Bum is quite popular in thePhilippines, and a lot of companies have asked Kim Bum to become amodel for their products. His visit will include the Philippines,Thailand, etc.
He will be shooting a CF with Maja Salavador for RC Cola during his stay at the Philippines.

Kim Bum’s new drama, The Woman Who Still Wants To Get Marrieddebuted at 5.5%, which was similar to its predecessor Hero, whichdebuted at 5.4%. Although it’s still possible for the ratings to go upin the upcoming episodes, this drama will need a lot of support fromviewers. I sincerely hope the ratings will increase so Bummie can feelmore confident about his acting.

TWWSWTM Epi 1&2 Review

Disclaimer: Since I couldn’t find any English subs for thisshow, I watched these two episodes with Chinese subs. My Chinesereading skill isn’t that good. My understanding and interpretation uponthe plot and the characters might not be 100% correct. )
Warning: slight plot spoilers
As I commented in the caps post, I didn’t expect the show would kickoff with high ratings, since it’s currently competing against twostrong shows (Chuno and Will it snow for X’mas). However, the ratingsfluctuating in the 4-5% range absolutely isn’t something I anticipatedor something I’m happy to see. Although high ratings do, sometimes,lead me to watch a show and see if it is really worth all the hype, I’musually not the type of person who would judge a show solely based onits ratings. Because I know it’s important and necessary to consider ashow on its own merits. Pretty annoyed by facing Still lagging in theratings, I decided to check out it on my own. The reasons? Simply put,apart from Kim Bum, I’m eager to find out how this show has beenunderrated by the viewers. I watched the first two episodes of Still ina row last night, and felt literally…technically…kind of…unimpressed.
The story, which centers threethirtysomething women and their pre-middle-age crisis, can be a veryinteresting and insightful social commentary. However, it’s difficultfor me, a college sophomore, to relate to. Obviously, it’s not the showor the story’s fault. It’s just that, unfortunately, I might not be itsbest audience. And of course, I’m not bashing myself by indicating Ionly can feel for shallow teen shows. I just need to some time to warmup. Admittedly, some meaningful and honest moments do lend this show anair of realism and make me feel the warmth and sorrow of life.
Acting-wise, Still has a lot to offer. I’m first going to givecredit to Park Jin-hee who enlightens the entire show by delivering asubtle, engaging performance. Her acting is seductively natural. Youdon’t really feel she’s acting, because you’re convinced that’s whoshe’s in real life. Another impressive performance goes to Eom Ji-won,who plays a successful English translator with a strong and toughpersonality looking from the outside and a fragile and romantic heartinside. The role is right up Eom’s alley and with humorous strength,conveys the pain and loneliness of an otherwise charming womansuccessfully.
So how about Kim Bum? Hmmm, a lot to say. Let me first start withhis role. Based upon the first two episodes, his role, to my mind, iskind of predictable and lacks of sparkles. He portrays a talented and‘wild’ musician, which, I think, is pretty cool. Yet that’s not thepoint. The point is that his role is, again, a playboy and hot shot,who knows exactly how to attract and play around with women. Thisinevitably reminds me of Boy Over Flowers. Compared to So Yi-jung, thisrole, with a more realistic story setting and less chic wardrobe, doesdeliver a more down-to-earth feeling. But also, like So Yi-jung, itlacks of character development and depth. It might not be fair to arguethis so early based on the very first episodes. So I’m going to reservemy thoughts/feelings for further comments now and see how the story isgoing to unfold. Speaking of the role’s storyline, I don’t really haveto say, because it doesn’t have much to offer so far counting on KimBum’s very limited screen time. (Here are some words for thedirector–sir, please give Kim Bum more opportunities/scenes to leveragehis acting skills. He KNOWS how to shine.) Yet, one thing I appreciateis that, digging into all the witty lines written for the character, Ifeel this role delivers certain maturity that draws me in. Perhaps thewriter intends to use the role’s inner maturity setting to make up someage gap between him and his love interest, which is a good call.
There are two English-speaking scenes I want to point out. The firstone centers Park partying with her foreign co-workers during heroverseas training. Sorry, but I have to say her English just makes thatscene so embarrassing to watch. The second one focuses on Eom giving anEnglish speech. With the first experience, I was ready to put my fingeron and push the mute button. I was glad I didn’t do that. Her Englishturns out to be surprisely good. Along with the creative editing, thescene becomes a gem of that episode.
All in all, Still, despite all the flaws, is still a prettyenjoyable and entertaining comedy. Based on the first two episodes,I’ll take Still over a lot of television, but when its competitors havebeen as strong as they’ve been, it becomes harder to wave away thisshow’s weak spots.
