Being at an “ambiguous” age of 21, Kim Bum can be considered aseither a man or an adolescent. Like other guys who love to wear hoodiesand sneakers, Kim bum is talkative and easy going, and smiles a lot.It’s hard to image from which part of his body did all the charismaticgestures and expressions ooze out?
During the shooting break, Kim Bum gave people a sense of distancewhen he held a book with a complicated name. He’s a complicated person,even from the first impression. Perhaps this is the difference betweenthe actors his age and other people. When hearing people using thecliché of “When I was at this age,” instead of showing any disgust, hegave a humble smile. When he talked about his dreams, he expressed aconfidence to excel in all things “even if I break my jaw,” somethingthat was apparent in his role from “Dream.”
Being rational as a man
Maybe it was due to debuting at a fairly young age, Kim bum looksmuch wiser and more mature than most of his peers. Instead of saying hematured early, it’s better to say that he’s on a road with a clear viewof what’s ahead. He knows what kind of road he should take as well ashow to get to his destination. This is Kim Bum’s dream, wanting tobecome a great actor.
When asked about his experience as a host in Bisang, Kim Bumexpressed, “When the high schooler Shi Bum decided to become a host, itwas because he had no other alternatives. In the first half of thestory, he met Soo Kyeong, who was very special to him. The storydepicted him becoming a host in order to protect her.” While the mediacompared Bisang with “Beastie Boys” (Yoon Kye Sang) and “DirtyCarnival” (Jo In Sung), Kim Bum said that Bisang was his first projectafter “Boys Over Flowers”, and it was the first project where he landedthe male lead.
Q: The reason to choose Bisang?
I cannot deny that I wasn’t excited to play the male lead in thisproject. However it was not the main reason to take this role. For me,there are two reasons. First, Bisang is the first movie from directorPark; second, it was a chance to challenge myself.
Q: It seems that you always play roles older than yourself?
Yes, I did take on a lot of older roles, like the adolescent in Eastof Eden and So Yi Jeong from Boys Over Flowers. So Yi Jeong was a youngman with a complicated family background. On the other hand, Lee JangSeok from Dream grew from a pickpocket to a real boxer.
Q: Your weakness as an actor?
I don’t have enough time, that’s it!
Q: Is it because of your other projects?
I finished three projects in one year. When I’m following otherschedules while filming for a project, there was always some sort ofregret. When I receive the script, I always want to get into mycharacter, but unfortunately I was left with only a week to do so. Mybiggest regret is exhausting my body from the lack of time and all thestrenuous work.
